This place is very calm but no fish it's hard to catch. The area is limited and there is a small picnic area.

I bookmarked this spot for the seasonal spider lillies. After self-paying the admission fee and…read moreparking, the walk along the shore was quite pleasant on a mild day. Despite the river views, it took a half hour or so to get to the spider lillies, which are apparently limited to one particular location. It was hard to see them from shore, made harder by rising waters (the festival the previous day was likely thrown off by rain). I got enough of a glimpse of them to understand where the name comes from. The overall aesthetic of the park offered remnants of a historic canal, and boating and picnicking opportunities. It was a pleasant space, but not at the top of ones I'd want to drive out to and pay for.

The Rocky Spider Lily's are only located in certain areas ( SC, GA, and AL). Hoping to see them in another state as well. Its all about timing, make sure you check the websites for a bloom updates. The park is well kept and bathrooms are clean, which is a plus. During the Lily Festival parking is limited, so pack your patience. You will get parking, so no worries. The cost is $6 for each adult, very reasonable considering. They have a store with maps for the walking trails, its approx 1mile roundtrip to see the Lily's. If you want to see them up close and personal you must rent a canoe prior to coming. The park doesnt rent boats, a outside company will take you on a tour. I actually enjoyed the nature trails. They have a nice platform for viewing the lily's. The lily's are absolutely breathtaking, I truly enjoyed my day at this park. The trails are fairly short and well taken care of. There are some food and artisan vendors at the park. Tip: dont touch the lily's if your on a boat, all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested. Please do your own research beforehand. Thankfully most people are viewing from the platform. Fabulous day indeed, fresh air, steps, and peace! @glampedlife

Then it is just a short walk to the museum and a few monuments. I'm not sure if there is really any connection to Jackson himself aside from the name and monuments. But there are some artifacts which date from around his time. The history here, indeed the whole area, is a history lacking from the west coast. So, whether related to the 7th president or just his era, it is cool for a life long west coaster to visit and learn. Other highlights of this state park which I did not have an opportunity to check out are camp sites, a lake with canoe rentals and a 1 mile nature trail. Practically something for everyone.

This park is located about 20 miles off the I-77 interstate. There is plenty of signage to guide you. The park is $3 per adult and $1 per child with a pay station. Park opens at 9am. Plenty of parking! We walked around the statues, the meeting house, and the schoolhouse. Kids enjoyed ringing the bell. There are picnic tables and a covered shelter with additional tables. There is a restroom that is depicted as a log cabin. So is the picnic shelter. Very Rustic looking. The kids enjoyed looking at everything, reading the markers and taking their own photos. It was very relaxing and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them take their own photos. I hope they always enjoy history! Kayla Beth Fields , the kids and I had a great little adventure.

We did 7 miles on and thru the trails along the river. We started at the river park entrance off the industrial highway (I'm not good with directions) and ended at the River Walk by the Pump House before turning around. It was a great workout with some hills but the views were the Star. Old bridges, big metal bridges, swings on the river banks and wooden trails thru the woods' this place is a gem. The trail I spotted is clearly marked with blazes. It's not handicapped accessible with a few scrabble areas and some felled trees that would need to be stepped over. The hike would likely land on the "easy" end of the scale and it's very pleasant to walk through the woods. The sign indicates that the park closed November 4 and is estimated to be complete in late Spring 2020. Users of the Piedmont Medical Center Trail at 100 Celriver Road can still access the trail. Remember to always hike with a friend! [Review 13039 overall, 356 of 2020.]

Facilities include a full gym, pool, tennis courts, bacchi ball lanes, extensive walking trails, paddle tennis/pickle ball courts, horseshoe pits and even a ball field. Also a boat house and canoe & kayak club on the Catawba River. Just about everyone has a golf cart and you can get just about anywhere using them. Friendly is the theme. People wave at each other and are anxious to meet and introduce themselves whenever you meet. Monday nights are presentations as part of the life-long learning group. We have had podiatrists, bush pilots, authors, historians, financial planners and others give one-hour talks that are really interesting and kept within that one-hour limit. We have been living here for 6 years and have enjoyed every minute. Our priorities for a…read moreretirement community were that it be inland, near a major airport, close to a large city, and offer plenty of amenities. SCCL offers that and much more. There is a club, event or activity for almost anyone. For the less active person it is a very well kept aesthetically appealing neighborhood, close to shopping and many restaurants. After 13 years ( I think building began in 2006) major updating and renovating will soon begin on our Lakehouse. It will be a major disruption in our primary amenity center and , understandably, has caused some grumbling and disagreement throughout the community. My feeling is that if we are to retain our position as the premier 55+ community of the Carolinas, we need to accept the inconvenience and enjoy the outcome! No community is perfect, but if you're looking for a fun- filled active retirement with friendly neighbors and a lovely environment- you should check out Sun City Carolina Lakes!
