Well maintained and nice little museum. Worth a stop if you like history or just in the area.

Andrew Jackson's hair - given as a gift. Weird.

I found myself here because I'm a huge presidential history nerd. My goal is to visit the birthplace and burial place of each president. Although I consider myself a pretty decent "outdoorsman", nature wasn't the purpose of my visit - although what I saw of the park was beautiful. I wish I had more time to explore, but I was on the road! The main purpose of my visit was the small museum on the grounds, which I found to be just the right size, and have just the right amount of information and period artifacts. Plus, A.J. is not NEARLY one of my more respected presidents. So, something short and sweet was fine by me. One artifact in particular - caught my eye - and I've added a photo of it. Apparently, people used to send each other their hair - as a gift? A lock of Andrew Jackson's hair is literally on display. That brought a cool "weirdness factor" to the place. Overall, if you're going to the State Park, do yourself a favor and check out this small museum; it's worth your time. Free hint: Although there is a stone monument in the park stating Andrew Jackson said he was born in South Carolina in his will, the debate continues. For those who want to cover every possibility of seeing A.J.'s actual birthplace - check out a stone obelisk on Rte 1105. Take Rebound Road west off of 521, cross over Old Church Road - into North Carolina. At the end of that road - is a marker (picture).

This huge park is located near Andrew Jackson's birthplace. Andrew Jackson was the nation's 7th President and today is featured on the $20 bill. He is the only South Carolina-born president. The park is 360 acres and includes hiking, boating, camping, fishing and picnicking. Many of the camping spaces include water and electrical hookups. Andrew Jackson Lake is 20 acres and features fishing with an island in the middle and hiking paths all around. The park is far from any major development and therefore gets frequent wildlife visitors. In addition to all the outside, there is a museum here. It is a replica of an 18th-century one-room schoolhouse. Entrance is $3. I'm not sure how much the camping spots cost. [Review 13077 overall, 394 of 2020.]

We were visiting the Charlotte area, it was to be a beautiful day out, so my niece suggested we come to Andrew Jackson State Park. This place is beautiful, and full of history. Toured the small museum, then walked around the grounds and lake area and had a great time. This State Park is kid-friendly, and we highly recommend it for a few hour break from your routine!

I love the outdoors and being outside. This is my favorite South Carolina State Park. I have stayed here probably over 30 times. It has running water. They have facilities here too where you can take a shower, wash your hands or brush your teeth. It has paved roads right up to your camp site. Theirs water and electricity at each camp site along a fire pit. I have stayed here so many times they not only know my name and what camp site I like but they even know who I am by the sound of my voice on the phone. All the forest rangers are friendly. It has 25 camp sites, 2 picnic shelters, amphitheater, meeting house, and 2 facilities with running water and a museum. History: It also represents history thus the name Andrew State Park. It is the boyhood home of Americas 7th President Andrew Jackson. There's also an old school house on the property that sometimes has a volunteer in it on the weekends to tell you about school in the 1700's and 1800's. Other things to do: You can rent boats and fish here because there is a lake here. I have seen geese flying in to land on the lake. There's even a resident goose that lives here. Be sure to check out the Andrew Jackson Museum which is free. On scene: I have seen deer, rabbits, geese, and lots of squirrels. The squirrels will even come right up to your camp site. Actually, I have had some come within a few feet of me. Their just looking for food. But, it allows for some great picture taking ( see photos and videos). You can also buy drinks here for only $1 at the museum/ rangers office/ check in office. Final Thoughts: Altogether, this is a quiet campground. It gets full on the weekends but during the week days there's only about 5 to 8 camp sites rented. Costs: You can stay here for about $20 a night on average. Sometimes it's a few dollars cheaper depending on how busy they are.

First visit to this park to camp for the weekend. This is a great place for history fans and a quiet small campground next to the lake. The campground sites are all paved and most are level. Some sites are full service. You get a fire pit and Picnic table. The bathhouse is clean and fairly modern. The store has various odds and ends mainly selling items like books and toys for the kiddos that relate to the history of the area. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Absolutely amazing state park! Everyone is so sweet and knowledgeable. The host camper went over and beyond to help when we moved to another site for a few more day and he brought over my flowers and left them on the table outside. His little dog is too cute too! It's the little things that matter! We will definitely be back.

    From the dock...

A very nice quiet place to fish at. I was looking for a location to take my 2 year old to learn how to fish( or just play with his fishing pole) and i remembered passing this park daily when i worked in Lancaster. The cost to enter the park is $2(have exact amount or donate your change). My son and i arrived about 9:30 am this past Saturday and had the entire dock to ourselves. The dock is sturdy and pretty accessible. Just beside the dock were several boats for rent. A sign said go to the main office to rent. The water was pretty calm and i was able to see several fish swimming and several jumping in the water. I cany speak for how hard/easy it is to catch them as my son tossed his pole in the water after 30 mins. Several people did tent boats and they seemed to be pretty sturdy/reliable. I also saw a play ground set in a shaded area on top of the hill just above the dock. There is plenty of parking. I plan to return with a few friends since it was so nice and calm. Plus you can keep and eat what you catch.

Despite the river views, it took a half hour or so to get to the spider lillies, which are apparently limited to one particular location. It was hard to see them from shore, made harder by rising waters (the festival the previous day was likely thrown off by rain). I got enough of a glimpse of them to understand where the name comes from. The overall aesthetic of the park offered remnants of a historic canal, and boating and picnicking opportunities. It was a pleasant space, but not at the top of ones I'd want to drive out to and pay for.

The Rocky Spider Lily's are only located in certain areas ( SC, GA, and AL). Hoping to see them in another state as well. Its all about timing, make sure you check the websites for a bloom updates. The park is well kept and bathrooms are clean, which is a plus. During the Lily Festival parking is limited, so pack your patience. You will get parking, so no worries. The cost is $6 for each adult, very reasonable considering. They have a store with maps for the walking trails, its approx 1mile roundtrip to see the Lily's. If you want to see them up close and personal you must rent a canoe prior to coming. The park doesnt rent boats, a outside company will take you on a tour. I actually enjoyed the nature trails. They have a nice platform for viewing the lily's. The lily's are absolutely breathtaking, I truly enjoyed my day at this park. The trails are fairly short and well taken care of. There are some food and artisan vendors at the park. Tip: dont touch the lily's if your on a boat, all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested. Please do your own research beforehand. Thankfully most people are viewing from the platform. Fabulous day indeed, fresh air, steps, and peace! @glampedlife
