The 3 story slide is worth the wait in line. The seating gets taken quickly but you can always find somewhere to place your stuff. Locker rooms and bathrooms are relatively clean for what it is. Lazy river is the best. You can go around as many times as you want. Whirlpool is the kids sanctuary. $15/person but discount if you're a Mecklenburg resident. Needs better parking. read more

So my bonus kids and I been coming to Rays every summer for our outing. This summer three people at the counter have told me kids on the spectrum have free admission. When she told me I asked many times are you sure cause we always had to pay, she replied yes. So we continue to come free admission having a great time. So here's the kicker, today August 21st somebody checked us in and said they never heard such thing. So I was outraged, I hate inconsistency, money isn't the issue, they all need to be on the same page of the rules. So the manger steps in no empathy at all really blunt and asked for payment. I do not think this place is as bad as some of the reviews suggest . Yes, the chlorine is really strong. Burning your eyes strong however I highly doubt that folks that work day to day have any control or say in that (it's a county building so that's that). & honestly the chemicals are probably needed when dealing with a bunch of kids who probably pee in the water lol . The two women who checked us in were kind and friendly . There was a slight delay to open due to some bad weather . About 30 mins passed and we were let in. It seems like they employ lots of young kids . That's nice to see young people doing something productive. I had the privilege of taking my 8 year old son here for a birthday party as my wife was busy. The first thing is that parking is a nightmare - I used to live at 5th and Poplar, so I know street parking - but there really isn't a convenient location to park and carry presents, a bag, and towels. The place is so over crowded, the place is open to the public and there are multiple parties going on - so figuring out where to go is a little confusing with so many people crowding the area. The staff were friendly and helped get us to where we needed to be. Someone else mentioned it - the indoor park concept is awesome, but a capacity and time limit need to be set - like you can come for 2-hours starting at every hour till full. The locker area is small and felt dirty - I didn't bother trying to shower my kid there and just took him home to hose off. Once getting out to the pool area - the smell will definitely hit you. It's not Chlorine as most people think, but Chloramine - and it burns your eyes. If you don't know what Chloramine is, let me ruin your day and save you a google search: "Chlorine is used at aquatic venues to kill germs, but when it binds to the body waste swimmers bring into pools, it can form chemicals called chloramines." This is nothing against the facility - it means they are treating the water correctly - it's just over crowded and a lot of people are dirty. For example - you aren't supposed to have food/snacks in the pool area - but I watched 4 families pull out a small cooler and eat an amazing variety of brats, chili dogs, chicken, and sandwiches. Flip flops littered the floor randomly, and the air flow is fairly low despite giant fans making a lot of noise. On the away in I planned to go in with my kid, but after the smell and the number of people making it so crowded, I just worried about my kids safety. They have lifeguards - very hardworking ones who were busy the entire time trying to control everything. With the number of people it's easy for them to be busying trying to control a bunch of kids whose parents are not helping enforce instructions/warnings that they don't notice a small kid in an overcrowded area, or a bunch of teenagers throwing a football that kept hitting kids in the back of their heads. The 4-10 year old kids who can't swim well or stand would look scared at times. So I sat and kept a watch on my kid and helped pulled him out once till it was time to go-to a party room upstairs for pizza and cupcakes. He said he had fun, and the park is pretty cool, but I'm guessing that wouldn't have been the case if he wasn't there with 20 other kids he knew. To no surprise, my kid and I were both had COVID a few days later - but that could have happened visiting Lowe's as well. I guess if you get there when it opens and leave before it gets over crowded it would be awesome - but it's not something I find I need to go do again. read more

Today we came for a swim and because it's the weekend there was a good amount of people but regardless when an incident happened around 4:20pm on 3/16/25 I watched the life guards do an amazing job at handling the situation. I saw the main guard with the cool pink bun along with the lead and head guard be on top of it and even a few others come and be support. Such good team work. Normally love coming to Ray's splash planet, but this last visit I found the lifeguards to be overly aggressive and confrontational. My son & I are super comfortable swimmers, so I found one lifeguard to be extremely rude blowing her whistle at us for playing with my son in the water? I lightly threw him up once before she confronted me asking if I wanted to call the manger over. I'm genuinely trying to just enjoy pool time with my son and we are basically the only two ones there because it was a Tuesday. The lifeguard wouldn't reveal her name, but I spoke with another lifeguard who saw the incident and empathized with me saying "I don't know why she's like that". The manager was nice and ensured me he would have a talk with her, but it made the rest of the visit awkward. She just continued to blow her whistle and was also on her phone the majority of the time. Definitely put a damper on the day for me. We will probably pick going to the eastway rec center after this experience. read more

We visited on a Monday morning, right at opening, and had the facility basically to ourselves! My children (7, 5, and 2) had a blast! Things that stood out: - The facility was very clean and well cared for. The chlorine was not overpowering to me as other people noted. - The staff was friendly and helpful. The life guards were very attentive to their jobs, and occasionally blew their whistle to correct people, but always respectfully. One life guard even let our son borrow some goggles, which was nice! - Family restrooms were helpful since I have a son and daughters. - Swim diapers were available for $2, if you forgot one, like I did. Whoops! - There were complimentary Life vests ranging from infant life vests to large child size. Cons: - couldn't have snacks for kids (but they did say water bottles were okay) - no water fountains that we could see Overall, this place was a steal! $60 for a family of 5 to play for 5 hours. Poor and very Bad customer service and the employees turn off the light and told us to leave after the guest left and before the party end and all of the employees started to to clean at 6:30 time and the party supposed to end at 7:00 and instead at 7:00 they started to clean at 6:30 and it looks like the boys wasn't rush to leave the splash park. read more

First time going. First of all, the entire concept is great. I love the idea of an indoor water park, especially here where it rains often in the summer. We can still go for a family pool day without being brought down by the weather. All the equipment seemed safe, it was well thought out, and everyone was clearly having fun. However, IT WAS PACKED. And to be honest, that really grossed me out. Although the water always looked clean around me, the idea of being so crowded by people was unpleasant. It would be better if there was a maximum capacity in time ranges to allow for more enjoyment and cleanliness. I know checking in is more of a nuisance, but so is waiting in long lines for a slide, or bumping into people left and right in every area of the park. Also, it was HOT. Once in the water, it felt great. But outside of the water it was impossible not to sweat which is even more gross. EHHHH WHERE TO START. Took my niece and nephews here and as soon as we walked through the locker room door, we were all punched in the face with a strong chlorine odor. I've never had anything like this even in the WI dells water parks. The water burned our eyes even though nobody opened them. And then there were the lifeguards. They blow the whistles and yell at you for anything and everything you do. They just pace back and forth screaming at kids for trying to play and have fun. Just extremely over the top. The kids weren't having fun. Some were "too big" to play on the smaller section. They only have one slide for "big kids" so needless to say they also got bored. We left after 3 hours. We booked here for my daughters 4th birthday and it was the best! We booked the package where they took care of everything - all we had to do was show up. My only complaint - parking. This place is wonderful. Check in was lovely.. held a conversation with both representatives and they were kind and helpful. It's a community ran place and I honestly can't see why anyone would desire more out of such a place. We drove on NYE to spend the day here from Virginia. There are no indoor water parks near us, and the ones that are equal distance away cost $40 per person. Here, we paid $11 per person, which is completely reasonable-- or dare I say-- pretty cheap for all day fun. The facility is clean, the water is warm and it's raining outside. But we still get to splash about cause this rec center exists. If I lived in Charlotte, we would be here all the time. They have one area for big kids/ adults to slide. The pools are not deeper than 3.5 ft which is perfect for lounging. There are ample chairs out of the way of the water for parents to cruise email or write yelp reviews. ;) This is a huge hit for my 12 year old daughter who loves to be in the water. I'm appreciative that this rec center allows outsiders like us to come spend a day. Way to do right by the community Mecklenburg County! Bravo. read more

We always have a pleasant time! We are always greeted by warm staff and given clear instructions. I love the fact that you purchase an all day pass, so you can break up your time spent, for example, swim, go outside for a picnic, play, swim again. Also, for a few additional dollars, the workout room upstairs is a nice treat. Yes, it's loud, (what do you expect at a child themed water park?) And the chlorine levels are high (would rather this than illness due to under treated water), but it is money well spent for what it is - a low cost, safe, family themed, county maintained recreation facility. The only tips I have are: Try to go during non-peak times. It's best to dry off, throw on something quick, and go home to shower, etc. The bathroom/ changing areas get full fast and maintenance can't always attend to them as often as needed. read more

Let me start by saying as a kid myself I lovedddd this establishment. So many great things to do. However as an adult I don't trust it after an experience my sister had with my niece. My sister took my niece here for her 2nd birthday on June 9th, 2022. In the kids center parents are not allowed to go on the slides my niece had on a life jacket however when my sister sent her down the slide she went under water... during the time she was under water the lifeguard just sat on his post and stared at my niece while she was underwater. My sister did not have enough time to go around the slide to get my niece out of the water so she went down the slide herself and got my niece from under the water herself. My sister could not speak with a manager as no manager was at the establishment on this day. We have contacted the establishment in regards to inform them of this incident and still have not heard back from them. If you take your child here please be advised and make sure you have eyes on your child at all times. My niece did not enjoy her time overall and left within an hour. read more

Took the kids to Ray's Splash Planet on MLK day. There's limited parking out front but they have additional parking in the school lot. If you aren't partaking in the activities you must buy a dry ticket. No worries as the prices are very reasonable. They have a fitness center, and even though I should've, I wasn't in the mood for using it. You have to take all of your belongings with you into the park area. My only question is what is the point of the lockers if you can't keep your belongings locked in them? They have a little tyke splash pad, a small lazy river, an open tube slide, a vortex whirlpool, and a free swim area that's not really good for swimming but better for getting splashed by random strangers and having rogue balls being thrown at you. Overall, I think it's a fantastic option for those days when you're kids as out of school and you just want to read the internet....or a book. read more

This is a great little indoor water park for littles. My six year old never wants to leave. The life guards are attentive and friendly.

Pluses: they have amenities you might see at a waterpark for a fraction of the price in a clean, well-run facility. They have food available at the snack bar ranging from a popsicle (25 cents) to large pizzas. They offer a "dry pass", a discounted ticket for adults to come in as chaperones and non-swimmers (and they have nice beach chairs lining the perimeter). The lifeguards and staff members are really, really nice. Minuses: It can get CROWDED. It can get very steamy during those hot summer days. On the day we visited, the water was quite heavily chlorinated (or whatever the chemical of choice is these days). You can't bring your own food, and you can't go in and outside without drying off all the way and getting dressed. Those rules weren't followed by everyone, so if you followed the rules you would have been a little appalled at seeing the numerous occasions of rule-breaking. Good for 1-3 hours of summertime fun. read more

Sunday birthday parties are not my favorite thing, I mean what if it was a football Sunday? Thank goodness it's not football season but my son could care less, he just loves a party especially if it involves water. I think this place is a great party idea and of course you can come anytime as they're open all year............the perks of an indoor water park. My kids spent 6 hours here! They had an amazing time! We arrived about 12:00 pm it was very crowded their was a lot of kids from camp, church etc. the parking lot was full of busses. But around 3 pm the large groups left and their was a handful of kids in the pool, which meant shorter lines for the slide, lazy river etc! We stayed till 6pm and the last 3 hours were the best! The life guards do a very good job looking after the children, making sure everyone follows the POOL RULES and just doing their job! The pool is not that large to where you'll go crazy trying to find your child, but always keep a good eye on them especially if they're not good swimmers. I paid non resident prices which was $11 dollars per adult and $8 dollars per child. Overall the pool was clean, prices were affordable and my kids had a great time!
