Every three weeks after her treatments we go for a short walk around the park since it's right across the street. Today, we received some devastating news about her cancer and so after her appointment we went to the park to have a moment with her before driving back to Greensboro. We were kicked out. We've never seen any signs nor has anyone ever approached us about no dogs being allowed. We've seen many other people with their little dogs as well. It felt like a punch in the gut. A place we went for solace just added to our pain.

I reached out to Eunice Donnelly the park and Rec "director" and she did nothing to resolve the matter. She kept directing me to their website for events which half the events they've run this summer aren't even posted on the website! The park is great, the directors and management team are terrible however. She should be removed. They need a true lesson in organization and also respect- the golden rule. They don't care about our community and that is clear now.

We thought this park looked pretty cool, so we drove over, parked on the road and walked around. It was a nice day and lots of other people were out. We walked around the lake and checked out some of the features like bridges, streams, bridges and an amphitheatre. There was also a playground nearby. This is one of the most beautiful parks I've had the pleasure of visiting. There are beautiful views, playgrounds and lawn space for children's play, plenty of parking, trails for walking/bike riding, several bridges, and large trees to compliment the fields. The park is well-kept as everyone here ensures cleanliness and top maintenance. As my dad and I sat down on the bench and soaked in our surroundings, we observed a plethora of activity which included some people flying drones, kids competing in the playground's obstacle course, elderly folks walking, dogs running amok, people racing toy cars, and a few people cycling. The positive energy and vibes were radiant. I'm glad we stopped by here. Definitely worth a visit in Charlotte!

Since Yelp has combined the Park and Preserve here into one listing I have to place a disclaimer…read morethat I mostly loved the preserve while the park was "just another park". The park is located behind and beside a small area school. There are at least four officially mowed and lined soccer fields. I watched a huge pick up game being played here on a Sunday evening. No doubt it stays popular. There's a large field in the back corner bordering woods which seems less user friendly but might be more useful for setting up a small fairgrounds. And, naturally, there's a massive playground here next to the school. A crosswalk connects this side across Tom Short Road to the Nature Preserve area. The preserve seems to be a much newer installation. Nice, small parking area. A new building with bathrooms, a good sized picnic area and a large grill. Trash cans - please don't litter here! A nice map of the whole complex including the park across the street. There's a dirt and light gravel nature trail about 0.8 miles long that winds through the preserve. It passes by several descriptive signs for the trees and upland swamp. There's even a concrete boardwalk that goes over the seasonal swamp and through this unique ecosystem. I really like it here. A pleasant walk in nature just on the edge of Charlotte and close to home.

The Nature Preserve, that I explored today, is 42 acres of entirely undeveloped woodland bordered by homes. The hiking trail loops around behind the parking area and bathroom building. Mostly level and not paved, the trail has little elevation making it an easy loop for the younguns. There are a small number of parking spaces here. At the park across the street and bordering the school, three decent sized soccer fields and a large playground. There is enough parking here on non-school days.

We did 7 miles on and thru the trails along the river. We started at the river park entrance off the industrial highway (I'm not good with directions) and ended at the River Walk by the Pump House before turning around. It was a great workout with some hills but the views were the Star. Old bridges, big metal bridges, swings on the river banks and wooden trails thru the woods' this place is a gem. The trail I spotted is clearly marked with blazes. It's not handicapped accessible with a few scrabble areas and some felled trees that would need to be stepped over. The hike would likely land on the "easy" end of the scale and it's very pleasant to walk through the woods. The sign indicates that the park closed November 4 and is estimated to be complete in late Spring 2020. Users of the Piedmont Medical Center Trail at 100 Celriver Road can still access the trail. As I'm now an experienced RVer, I can absolutely appreciate what they have done here - power, water views and most of the spots are well shaded. Many have easy pull through access. The lots are not on top of each other. Big parking lot for boat launches where THREE lanes are set up with two docks and a big area for pulling around. The slope to the water is gradual. Next to the boat launch, a huge lake side park with a crescent shaped dock that goes around the beach and swimming area. Several picnic pavilions, charcoal grills (fresh lake-caught fish, anyone?), a playground, and a pickleball court. The picnic building has good cover and restrooms.
