Great trail with easy access and amenities for post walk/run/bike businesses to visit afterward! Met some friends here for an easy Sunday morning walk. There is a lot to see between the river, trees, birds, and other trail visitors. Super easy to park around the businesses near the Pumphouse and then set off. As we were coming back, there were people putting kayaks into the water, also some folks in the water doing some fishing. Overall a great option for getting out into nature. Everything is paved and there some some well maintained wooden bridges to cross. Wide enough for two way traffic and benches a lot the way for breaks. read more

We walked along this trail (Riverwalk Greenway Trail) for 4.6 miles round trip. We started by the Pump House and turned around when we got to the covered bridge. It's a really nice trail along the river. It was really peaceful early in the morning and then got a bit more busy on our way back. I'd like to continue on and do more of the trail next time. This would be a great spot to go for a walk and then get food or a drink after since it ends right by some restaurants. read more

Boom! City of Rock Hill, you hit a home run with this trail. It's 3.25 miles of paved trail that winds through a very wooded riverside landscape. There are multiple benches along the route to stop and rest or enjoy the view of the river. There are many doggy stations along the route for those that have pets. My first time out today around 11am riding a road bike. There were Mom's pushing strollers, couples on hybrid bikes, solo walkers, pets on leashes and joggers. It's mostly flat terrain but there are a couple of steep hills that will get your heart rate up. At the far end there is a boat ramp, portapotties and a some covered picnic tables. At about marker 2.5 there is a sign off the right that directs to full service bathrooms. On the starting end near the Pump House is a kayak launch and some picnic tables with 3 portapotties. I would imagine this place is really busy during the weekend so you want to get started early if you want to beat the crowd. Word is that in about 2 months the folks in Rock Hill @ BikeTown will be opening a location here. read more

What a "hidden" little gem right out in the open. I had no idea it was even there. My son and I got a top to take our bikes there. What a pleasant surprise. We didn't go far but the trail appears to go on for miles right along the river. It's clean, safe, a little challenging but mostly just rolling hills with many flat sections. Nice relaxing hiking trail or mountain bike trail. You can pick to do 1 mile, 2 miles, or 2.5 miles. Great view of the water and extremely shaded for hot days like today. Also I noticed people kayaking and tubing in the Catawba River! So that's really awesome to know for future reference. Although there's a sign that says not swimming I guess those two are ok. There's a lot of construction which is good and means the are is truly growing. But note this hidden gem will be extremely popular once the building of new projects is complete. I really like this trail and am thankful for it's existence. My in-laws live here and every time we visit, my husband and I look forward to going to the Riverwalk. The trail itself is a good mix of hills and flat-ways, I always feel safe here because of the patrol guy and due to the many people who use this trail, and it's got a lot of shade to it so it's okay even in this summer heat. Overall, very therapeutic place! (especially because of all the dogs you'll walk by) A heads up- if you're going for a certain distance, the trail is marked every 1/4 mile (which is great) BUT the 1.5 mile marker is missing. read more

Love coming here! Round trip is approximately six miles. Paved walkway with hills. Beautiful scenery along the water. On a sunny day turtles are sunbathing. It was perfect for me when I started walking after my broken foot healed too. They have a mini library book swap at the beginning, which is a nice touch as you do not see those too much. After walking we usually enjoy a beverage and a bite at the restaurants nearby. Great community! read more

I love that they place random benches throughout the park facing the river in case you want to stop and enjoy the scenery. First visit was yesterday with my dog. My visit was at 9am. Its not difficult to find and there is a lot of construction taking place. Not so much that it interrupts how quiet it is here. Parking is along side a street and there was ample room although I could see a potential problem during the summer. The main trail travels alongside a river and there are optional trails, medium and difficult, that branch off the main trail. The trail is listed as a mountain bike trail but I decided to use it as I am in search for trails that are not flat. The trail is pretty easy to follow and there are small pink flags along the way for when weather gets bad and leaves cover the path. I saw a few deer. What I love about this trail is there was such a variety in scenery. From open fields, to small hills, to densely wooded. I only saw one other person on a bike during my visit on the medium trail but the main trail had quite a few people. The whole trip is a little over 4miles but because I opted for using the medium trail my total run was close to 7miles. Once the trail starts I did have a feeling like I was lost. That's the only thing I would probably like. More signs. They are still building quite a bit so I'm not changing my rating because I think with time that may change. The scenery itself is beautiful. The trail gave me just enough of a challenge being unpaved as well as a paved trail for when I needed a break. Excited to see whats in store for riverwalk and will be a new running regular, will only be taking the other trails with my dog. I felt safer with her especially in the areas that were further out. I didn't see anyone patrolling the area for the hour and 40 mins I was there. read more

When I moved my family to this area, this trail needed work. Parts of it were falling apart, and they were so narrow that bikes could only pass pedestrians by riding in the dirt. Then construction began on the portion that starts near Red River Rd. Upon completion, this was a brand new trail, literally. They carved a route through the trees, connected it to the wider portion, paved it, and added drainage to help ensure a long life. Parts of the old route parallel the new route in some places. The Riverwalk Trail is wide, smooth, and offers plenty of light. Tall trees and long vines form its borders, and through them you can view the Catawba River. In several places, you can walk to the water's edge as well and listen to the quiet rush of the current. Walk, Run, Bike... by yourself or with friends. Worth the drive Charlotteans! I'm a greenway biker, my husband loves the mountain bike trails and we both love the after-biking beers at Grapevine. At any given part of the day you'll find several people out and about on this trail. It's not as rustic as it sounds. The path is paved with asphalt and the wooded area cleared several feet away from the trail. At any given moment you may cross paths with a family of deer which is pretty epic. Plenty of benches to sit and admire the river throughout. Great way to get your cardio on! The people that designed the path put in the right amount of inclines and declines. If I had to guess probably just over 3 miles long so total 6 miles there and back. Surprisingly there's a lot going on in this area. Since it's right on the Catawba River often times I see people fishing, rafting or tubing right at the start of the trail. The Pump house is literally a couple feet away. Plus, they're starting to add more retail space across the street. Word of caution: with all the construction that's going on, the map of the mountain bike trails is not up to date. My husband loves mapping it out for himself so he loved figuring it out....while I was not a happy camper when we ended up on a black trail (I still haven't graduated from the beginner mt. trails so that was a huge surprise for me). read more

Riverwalk Trail is by far...the best thing happening to Rock Hill. The community that is being built will be about a natural sustainability with attention to the surrounding nature. The trail itself is a little over two miles and will eventually become a larger part of the Carolina trail system. The trail is clean and cleared out with some nice views of the river. There is quite a bit of clean up in progress from all the storms that came through this summer...but it's still a scenic hike. The trail and area surrounding will be under construction for some years to come, but the potential is enormous. A small launch for canoes and kayaks is at the trail-head. I would like to see this nicely structured and professional looking within the future. The entry way is your first meeting with the trail...and in my opinion...first impressions are lasting ones. Bring the kids, walk the dog, bring the bike, or get your pedometer ready...the Riverwalk Trail is the beginning of a very nice change to Rock Hill. read more

New to the area and was looking for a place to run with my dog. I wasn't aware that it didn't circle around, it's a run one way, turn around and run back kind of trail. I'm dumb and didn't turn around at the 2.25 mike marker. I went the entire way (~3.25 miles) thinking it was going to circle around. Total was around 6.5 miles and my poor dog and I were absolutely dead by the time we got back to my car, but the scenery was nice during the times we walked (where I questioned my life choices). I will definitely do it again but now I know to turn around before the end of the paved trail). read more

It was super hard to find this trail my first time here. If you are driving on Cherry St, you will see the pump house sticking out as it's a tall building. The entrance to the trail is at the Pump House. Good for biking, walking, jogging or walking your pets. Poop bag station with poop bags about 1.25 mi into the trail. Trash cans throughout as with benches. About every .25 mi you will see a trash can and a bench. About 1.25 mi into the trail there is also a mountain bike trail connector on the right. The whole trail is paved and very scenic since it's by the river. The folks who use the trail are fairly polite. Pretty clean and I like that about .25 mi into the trail there is a little island area on the left for dogs to get a drink and for you to sit down and enjoy the river. Look for where the small waterfall is, that is where the island is. At the entrance there are potty johns and a picnic table. read more

LOVE IT! I have to hand it to Rock Hill; they did this right. The trail is lovely and very nicely done. It's perfect for a walk, a run, or a bike ride. We love to get our Jack Russell Terrier out here on the weekends to try to wear him out! One of the things I like best about the venue is that there is ALWAYS a park ranger patrolling the trail in case you have any problems. We went out the morning after a big storm and they had part of the trail closed because a big tree had fallen across -- It was 8:00 am and they were already clearing it and taking care to warn everyone. I would feel very safe as a single woman using this trail! Thanks Rock Hill! read more

Amazing Setting, Great Trails. Running right along side the Catawba river, this paved trail has some great views in a serene setting. With some hills to climb, it offers some variety in terrain to keep you interested. You can take a leisurely stroll on the 3 mile trail, you will see people riding bikes and jogging as well. For the more adventurous bikers out there, they have some serious mountain bike trails that I love. They are pretty well maintained and offer some real challenging sections. read more

First time walking these paved trails was just a couple weeks ago. Went out on a warm February weekend afternoon and the place was packed. Strolling along the Catawba river on sunny day can be very inviting. Never realized how wide the Catawba river is. This is a 3 mile paved walking path. A few benches here and there to stop and relax. The entrance is next to the Pump House just to give you a good reference point. Saw everything from people walking, jogging to bike riding. Parking is a bit difficult would be my only negative. read more

I am not from this area, so I went to the tourist bureau in downtown Rock Hill and asked where there were walking trails. The nice lady gave me a pamphlet on River walk and said to type the address on the back into my gps to get there. DO NOT DO THAT! Do not go to 1782 Quality Cr.! It took me off of 50 onto a gravel road past an old trailer park and told me to park on some gravel by the woods. I was expecting a paved trail, but the trail there was steep, muddy tree rooted and creepy. I am an old, fat white woman; I am not gonna stumble, fall and break a hip out behind an old trailer park! Then, a truck drove further down the gravel road and I though maybe the real parking might be down there somewhere. It was a one way gravel with a steep drop off, then a tiny bridge that did lead to the river. Well, I was at a wrong entrance. I found that out after walking a mile or so to find a pretty paved parking lot with real bathrooms. That is on the corner of Red River road and Commerce. Put THAT into your gps. There is a sign there that says "Catawba River Trailhead". Oh, and don't trip on the green walnuts. My knee isn't happy about that. read more

I just had to try biking on the Piedmont Medical Trail section n I'm glad I did! The weather and temperature made for a perfect enjoyable day. I drove to the 1782 Quality Cir beginning (or end?). I wish I had gone to The Pump House entrance instead since Quality became a gravel road for a long stretch but Waze sent me to Quality. There was a good amount of parking BUT beware of poison ivy along the parking strip next to the portopotties. Of course, who wouldn't look first b4 letting their dog out to pee after a long drive? Amazingly after he walked all over the poison ivy n even peeing on it the oils didn't attach to his paws n fur. So far so good. At this entrance to the PAVED trail, there's a boat ramp, portopotties, parking, picnic pavilion, and a trail map. Thank goodness for a paved trail since I was riding my 10-speed. There are small posts of incremental mile markers to the left as well as 911 location markers on the pavement. Tho, I think the trail is pretty safe since there were a lot of pedestrians, bikers, rollerblades, joggers, etc. In fact, it was a lil difficult several times to get a momentum going b4 a hill since there were pedestrians in the way. I used my bell but. I guess it was just too gorgeous of a day for just about everyone. There are sitting areas for u to enjoy the Catawba River view. At one point also a two-person swing if you're lucky to spot it empty. The other benches beware because there's baby poison ivy on the ground here n there. Just thinking about it makes me itchy all over. The hills aren't so bad on bike. It's the pedestrians u hv to be lucky if they move aside when u shout "to your left!" I used my bell but still they're too into their cellphones n earplugs. If I weren't tight on time, I'd hv sat somewhere for a bit to be mesmerized by the water. I wish I had made a lil picnic lunch!!! It would hv made for a satisfying ride. There's wild jasmine everywhere in blossom so it was very fragrant biking the trail. There's a newly paved trail at one point but it's blocked off since I guess the asphalt needs to cure. I didn't keep track of the mileage but if u were to ask me to walk it I'd pass. And, rollerblading the hills, um, maybe not but some did. There are off-the-paved trail markers here n there but after seeing so much poison ivy I wouldn't try it. U can if u want to but cover up n make sure you're covered with Ivarest. At the other end (The Pump House), there's paved parking and a few businesses but I did not check them out. The parking seemed to be full. read more

I got to experience this trail for the first time last weekend. It's a great trail! Easy terrain on paved trail. Good for wheelchairs and disabled walkers. My dogs loved it. I just wished there was an open space for my dogs to be loose and have fun with other furry friends. read more

Outstanding Peaceful, Friendly, Scenic, The Most Enjoyable place to walk/ride. Between all of Ft Mill & Rock Hill, This spot is by far my Wife's and my favorite place to walk . Why then 4* & not 5* stars...? 2~Points. 1~Too much Greenery removed and cut back on the inside of the walk. While seeing more of the River side is nicer, it seems as if some of the Tranquility is gone as we are noticing more and more Houses up on the Hills. It seemed better when it had a storybook Deep Forest/Woodsy feel to it. We also liked it better when you couldn't see through to where the path was taking you. Now, on some of the curves you can see straight thru to the next curve. 2~No Restroom Facilities / Port-A-Potty / or Blue or Pink Trees. We Realize not wanting to disrupt the natural beautiful of the walkway, but Would like to see / Highly Recommend at least one Potty Spot under the Railroad Bridge, just before the new extension... read more

I'm writing this MTB trail review as a non-resident of Rock Hill so take my opinion from that POV. Bottom line - Love the park and trails (both paved and not). It has something for all kinds trying to get outdoors. From the paved trail for walkers/runners, to the the off road trails of different difficulty for Mountain bikers/trail runners/hikers, I had a great time making this a go to, once a day, stress reliever during my visit to Rock Hill during the '14 Holiday Season. Background - My in-laws live in Rock Hill and during the Thanksgiving visit I had looked up MTB trails in the area to find the Riverwalk listed. For our Christmas visit I packed my bike, printed a map from the Rock Hill city site, and set off on the "Blue" and "Black" trails. I found fantastic trails that are well marked and well maintained. I would be careful with the "Green" trail, though. First the city's map needs to be updated since currently the "Green" trail is closed from about 8 o'clock position back to 12 o'clock (West side of the loop, use North as 12 o'clock). Could effect people who get all the way out to the closing to find they will have to turn around to get out. Also the "Green" trail was a quagmire during my visit due to rains. It actually made it more treacherous than the, more difficult, "Blue" and "Black" trails (my only real crash was on the Green). Didn't ride it dry so I can't speak for that. "Blue" and "Black" were fantastic, though. Slippery due to the rain?, yes, but that's expected. They both were tight cornered trails with short bursts of elevation change. Obstacles found were exposed roots/rock/brick and a small handful of log crossings. All that is normal fare for the trails I ride, so I love it; you may be more finicky. My hats off to the maintainers since I know they are probably volunteers. Great signage, solid wooden crossings, and clear trails with no deadfall in the way. The only way it's kept that way is with hard work, so great job. What were my concerns? For one its a long "out and back" loop, with just a few long legs, that is taking you 4 miles away from your car. This means WHEN you have a "murphy's law" issue it will happen in the middle of one of these long legs and you will be walking your route out, or if you have a map, you could choose to break brush to get out to the perimeter "Green" trail for a slightly easier way. There are no short cuts to be able to abort your ride. That's not a critique, but more of a warning to prepare. My other concern comes from my cynical side. This would be that over time that the neighborhood would get possessive of this city gem and make it tougher for visitors. It would be easy for me to see parking to be at a premium once the neighborhood is finished. No issues about that while I was there, though. read more

I selected "I've experienced better" because I experienced this trail when it was better--before all the clear cutting took away much of the lovely shade and the character of the place. This trail has really gone downhill since my last visit. It used to be that you felt like you were walking in the woods, but now you never forget you are in a suburb. There are still a few places where you can enjoy the river, but I wonder for how long. I seem to recall there being more benches to rest or just sit and enjoy nature, but most of those seem to be gone now. You will notice that many of the positive reviews for this place are older reviews. It used to be a much nicer place than it is now. read more

I had to get out of my apartment at Gateway because the construction noise is driving me nuts but I can't connect to the bike trail because they didn't set aside money to complete it. Going for a walk isn't an option near the Galleria Mall because the sidewalks do not go anywhere. I feel like I am in a city built in 1970. Between these new apartments built in the old style and this car-dependent city things just are not that groovy, man. Gimme some fresh air. read more
