Before we even walked into the restaurant, we were informed that the left entrance door had been broken for quite some time. Since we had a double baby stroller with us, getting inside was a bit of a challenge and not exactly the best first impression. Overall Ratings Atmosphere - 3/5 Service - 3/5 Food - 3/5 Parking - Street Parking Atmosphere - The restaurant feels a bit old and dated and could probably use some updating. Interestingly, while the dining room definitely shows its age, the ordering system is modern and up to date. The contrast between the two was pretty noticeable. Service - Service was just okay. This is more of a casual setup where customers place their orders at the counter and the staff bring the food out when it's ready. There wasn't really anything memorable, either good or bad, about the service experience. What We Ordered - -Spring Rolls (Good) -Pho Dac Biet (Special Beef Pho) - The flavor was good overall, but the broth was only lukewarm when it arrived. A bowl of pho really needs to be piping hot, so this took away from the experience. -Grilled Pork Rice Plate - The pork was a bit too salty for my taste and was just okay overall. Final Thoughts - This was an average dining experience. The food was decent, the service was adequate, and the atmosphere was nothing particularly special. Nothing stood out enough to make me want to go out of my way to return, but I also wouldn't discourage others from trying it if they're already in the area. There are simply other Vietnamese restaurants nearby that I would be more inclined to visit first.

Nestled right of the corner of an intersection, you'll find the small shop with big flavors! Apparently it's a not so hidden gem because there were plenty of patrons as well as delivery driver in and out. Thankfully we were sat immediately. I already knew I wanted the brisket pho but I was craving coconut tea since I recently had the best ever. The pho was out of this world and definetly the best I've had in the DMV. No need to add anything at all becuase the broth is actually flavorful. And that's the honest to God truth so keep the Sriracha and hoisin sauce away. The coconut tea was a little underwhelming, but that's OK. I didn't come here for that. As far as service, I only saw three workers. An older lady behind the register, who sat us and brought us our water. I saw a lady come out out of the back who I'm assuming works in the kitchen and there is a high school age boy. With that being said service was a bit slow with only one person behind the desk truly working. Water came out immediately, broth came about 10 minutes later, and my coconut tea came in the mist eating. All in all I will return for this pho!

Vietnamese beef carpaccio - I think he mentioned they only launched this new menu item maybe 3-4 weeks ago! It was very good. the beef was very tender and i love the vietnamese flavors that come through in the sauce. 3.75/5 Salted vietnamese milk coffee - The coffee flavor is pretty strong which is tasty! Its not too bitter and actually i feel the sweetness and milky levels balance well. it gets really brought together by the salted foam on top! 3.5/5 The butcher's bowl - we saw the fresh noodles being sliced right in front of us! This is the hands-down absolute best Pho I have had in the United States. Needless to say, the meat quality is outstanding. However, to any Pho-enthusiast, the broth is the true essence of the dish. In this case, their broth is hits home hardest. The broth reminds me of the best Pho places I have had in Vietnam and even more, and sets itself apart from every Pho places I have had in the US. Hai, the owner, is a master of his craft and truly offers an experience like eating at your family's home. Every bowl is customized to your liking at the 10 seat Pho bar. I will be returning here everytime I come back to DC and cannot recommend it enough to anyone looking for a once in a lifetime bowl of Pho.

The standout for me is their spicy lemongrass pho - I had never tried anything like it before coming here, and honestly, it was kind of life-changing. It's like the perfect fusion of pho and bún bò Huế, with that rich, aromatic lemongrass flavor and a spicy kick that you can level up if you're feeling bold. It's one of those dishes I think about long after I leave. Of course, I had to get a Vietnamese iced coffee (cà phê sữa đá), and it did not disappoint. Super strong, perfectly sweet, and I love that you can actually watch it brew right at your table - it just adds to the whole experience. The vibe of the place is warm and homey, which makes it really easy to relax and enjoy your meal. The staff are always incredibly kind and welcoming too, which keeps me coming back just as much as the food does. If you're in the area and want something a little different from your usual pho order, this spot is 100% worth checking out.

The walk was slightly longer than usual from my neighborhood in Bloomingdale to the NoMa/Gallaudet Metro, but I had a strong craving for one thing: a steaming, soul-warming bowl of pho broth. And truthfully, navigating the snow- and ice-covered sidewalks and streets was a challenge. Some neighbors and business owners did an admirable job clearing their property, while others did not, making parts of the trek slippery and uncertain. Once inside, though, the warmth was immediate, a cozy escape from the sharp winter air. I ordered a generous bowl of pho with chicken broth only (no meat or vegetables), and it was everything I hoped for. The broth arrived piping hot, fragrant, and deeply comforting, with that slow-simmered flavor that feels like it's been nurtured for hours. It was rich without being heavy, delicately seasoned, and soothing in the best way, the kind of savory warmth that instantly thaws you from the inside out. And the spring rolls? Absolutely worth it. I enjoyed four crisp, golden fried spring rolls, stuffed with a flavorful mix of shrimp, chicken, pork, crab, and taro. Each bite was hearty, savory, and perfectly crunchy, a delicious complement to the warm simplicity of the pho broth. Honestly, my actions were on repeat, going back and forth between the crispy spring rolls and the steaming broth (dip, sip, crunch, comfort) over and over again. It was the perfect rhythm for a winter night. My server was pleasant, gracious, and attentive, making the experience feel welcoming and unrushed. The restaurant was relatively quiet, with about ten diners enjoying their meals - a peaceful little refuge from the winter chill outside. My experience lasted slightly over two hours, giving me time to truly settle in, warm up, and savor every bite without feeling rushed. For about $20, this was the perfect winter comfort meal and a reminder that sometimes a hot bowl of broth and crispy spring rolls are exactly what you need, a simple form of self-care on a freezing winter night. And somehow, after such a warm and comforting experience, the walk home felt easier to navigate, as if the broth had warmed more than just my hands; it warmed my spirit too. Pho 88 delivered warmth, flavor, and comfort right on time.
