Despite some criticism coming, we still love the place and will likely always be customers. But my gripes today was that nearly all tables hadn't been cleaned. We had to do it. And my biggest gripe tonight was the obvious need for some refresher policy training. As my picture shows, they have an 8 minute thru the line promos or you get a cookie. They were not very busy but in fact very slow. We were in line for at least 8 minutes before starting our order. I asked the guy about the 8min guarantee and he genuinely had NEVER heard of it. I pointed to the sign..... he said he had never noticed it. I wanted to know if the time started once we order or once we walked up. Couldn't answer. So we moved to the cashier to ask. Same result. No clue.... Hadn't heard of it.... Hadn't ever noticed the sign. A little disappointing. Will we still go? Absolutely. We won't ask the hard questions next time.

Finding the place was the hardest part as we drove around the building nearly twice before we realized the deli must be accessed from inside. Once inside, we loved the natural light pouring in and the cleanliness and openness of the deli. We took a few minutes to go through the menu as they have a lot to offer- many standard and specialty sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers and more. The lady helping us at the counter was patient and amazing, helping us to customize our order with a smile the entire time. We each ordered a different sandwich- an italian sub, a cheesesteak, a hot ham and swiss and an El Cubano. We ordered combos complete with deli chips (bagged but yummy) and a fountain drink (Coke products!) Everybody enjoyed their sandwiches. The only minor complaint during the meal is the Italian Sub had too much bread, or could have used more meat to complement the bread. If Knickerbockers ever wanted to place a location in the Phoenix Metro area we'd love to have them!

I had the Reuben sandwich and the wife had the French dip. We also tried the wedges. The Reuben was tasty but could have used more meat. It was cooked well and the bread was not too hard. This local joint typically caters to the business folks in the office building that it's housed in. They also do catering (check out their menus). When my neighborhood was sharing local restaurants that were doing take-out during the statewide "stay at home" order, I was excited to hear about this one. They had a turkey platter dinner as one of their options and I was quick to jump on that. Ordering was very simple-just a quick text to Dan and coordination of a pick up time (they also deliver, but I prefer to get out of the house when I can.) The food came pre-cooked and refrigerated, so all I had to do was heat it up. I was taken aback by the large portions-I was told it would feed 4-6 people. I bet my family of three gets 3 or more meals each out of this, easily. Not only was the food abundant in size, but it tasted great, too! It whisked me back to Thanksgiving dinner with all my family around. This one may very well become a staple in our household. We'll be back!

Don't do it. I am beginning to write this as we hit minute…read more35 of waiting for our food. As an Ohio girl, I was so excited to come to this location for the first time. We waited ten minutes in line to order, but that wasn't enough to warn us and it really didn't seem so bad. No warnings from employees were given to us about how long this would take. As we left the register towards the seating area, I counted 7 unbussed tables- we were forced to sit at the only table without either ample trash or people. I only saw two employees, neither of whom moved with any urgency- more of a lazy afternoon pace. The table of teenagers next to us exclaimed to one of them, "What is going on in the kitchen back there?!" Don't get me wrong, everyone was kind, just...not at all service-oriented towards a very hungry crowd. I did finally see some tables "bussed," but they were not wiped down or disinfected in any way. Which doesn't give me hope for the cleanliness of the rest of the place. At minute 45 of waiting, my husband went to ask what is going on, but had to wait in a line to do so. At one hour, we finally got to the register and said, "If you haven't even started our food yet, we'd love a refund." We got a refund. Hallelujah. They were kind about that But that also means we had waited for our food for an entire hour and they still hadn't even started it or come out to explain- nothing. Not even an apology. What we did get was a quiet resignation. We felt really bad for the girl working the register. I rated the food 3 stars bc I know it's good in Ohio, but we didn't actually ever get any served to us. But the worst part is knowing a place I love from Ohio is failing me. An hour and a half (30 min round trip and an hour of waiting) of my life I'll never get back.
