Bean batter is a cute spot in Munich. I had it flagged on my list of cafés to try on our mornings while visiting the city/country for Oktoberfest.
We walked in and approached the register but we weren't immediately engaged by the staff. Once we were acknowledged, we were told we could sit anywhere for table service and that someone would be with us shortly. We waited patiently for more than thirty (30) minutes for someone to take our order. It was then another half hour before we were biting into our food and taking our first sips. So it wasn't a good start. I would expect a café to be fairly quick with churning out orders quickly because people don't have forever in the mornings. They've got to get to work etc. Maybe that's not the case in the neighborhood. Maybe we missed something culture-wise. In any case, the staff/hostess did apologize for the long wait time.
For the record, the food was great! They're waffle specialists and their Chef's special did not disappoint. I'm not a coffee person but I did have a ginger tea that tasted great. My companion did have some coffee and she was definitely grateful for her cup. They had some sweet pastries as well. We took a few to go.
So what's the bottom line? Go ahead and visit ... just maybe not on a day where you're crunched for time. It's close to several hotels so you can get your java fix if you're visiting for Oktoberfest etc. read more
