Stay away from the Bean Bar. Their food is god awful. I went there today and ordered scrambled eggs. The worst eggs I've ever had in my life. And then Sarah The owner has the nerve to call me and complain to me that I brought the eggs back I told the guy that they're not good. How dare she do that Sarah get a little thicker skin. You're in the restaurant business people are going to complain. I made it real easy for her when she called me. The Kouign Amann pastry I got was $6.50 and wasn't very good. That same pastry costs $4 or less at other bakeries. It was way more muffiny than croissanty and had no crunch. It was also drenched in the sugar glaze. Also, they package it in a plastic to go container versus a bag?? I find that very wasteful. My latte tasted great, it was also expensive, but that's just how much lattes cost nowadays. Great coffee except for the fact that they didn't fill it up to the top. Which was disappointing, I assumed that they just put ice in and it melted when they poured the espresso over it, but it wasn't very cold and there was a great lack of ice. It was also very sweet. The staff seemed very nice and my drink came out quick. Seems to be a menu+pricing issue with this place. I also loved the vibe, I can totally see myself coming to do work here over a coffee. The first thing I noticed when I walked in the door was how beautiful it was. Very inviting with sparkling chandeliers comfy couches and soft chairs. The service was extremely friendly and they had a nice variety on the menu. I ordered a chai latte and it was very good. I can see myself coming here a lot to meet up with friends. I always rate my coffee shop experience in the drip coffee. Why is it that you can only get decent drip coffee in the city? It was so bad however, I had to dump it out. It tasted like Starbucks, and I don't consider that a good thing. I will give it some extra stars for the ambience and they had a wide selection of baked goods that they told me they brought in from other bakeries. So excited that bean bar has finally opened! They really transformed the space to make a nice coffee shop with some hipster vibes. I love the exposed brick and the mural outside, and the covered patio will be fantastic when the weather improves. I ordered a dirty lavender chai, I thought it was fantastic and reasonably priced. If you're eating there, the cups and mugs are adorable. Considering all I ordered was a drink, the service did take a bit long, but I'm sure it'll be under control once they've had more time to settle in. Needed in Northbrook. Seems like all the communities around here except Northbrook have one or more of these upscale tastefully decorated, comfortable coffee-light food hangouts (Starbucks once was sort of like this but has sadly become over the decades mostly a coffee vending machine). Thank you for filing the void. However the offer needs some work. Good but not great cold brew coffee, chai latte, avocado-truffle croissant sandwich and chicken bacon potato bowl - but nothing special or distinctive - feels pretty generic - needs something to talk about. As in "they have these amazing Belgian chocolate drinks" (just making it up) or even the tried and true "coffee of the day" with beans from some obscure named mountain in Southern Peru and pictures of it being harvested. Will go back again but not feeling compelled to do so. read more

Wonderful experience. Great coffee and pastry. Meeting friends we walked in and it was packed. Mixed crowd of young people on their laptops and young families and all generations. I forgot to add cream to my coffee. It was smooth and tasted great black. Our pastries very good. The atmosphere was very comfortable. They have a very large outside sitdown area. Bean Bar is such a wonderful addition to the Northbrook Town Center! I believe the owner has already established Eataco and Next-Door Lounge (both nearby) which are terrific in their own right. The owner is an amazing restaurateur and Northbrook is lucky to have her! Bean Bar offers wonderful coffee, smoothies, and both sweet and savory pastries (not to mention multiple other options not mentioned here). The venue has a very special and welcoming ambience to boot, and I cannot think of any other venue in Northbrook that offers to our community what the Bean Bar provides. On every visit, I see people of all ages: purchasing coffee to go, staying in to chat and connect with their friends and family while relaxing on the comfortable couches and chairs, or using the private rooms for more private conversations. BTW, I have no connection with the owner or any staff at the Bean Bar and I must admit that I was so disappointed some years ago when we lost Starbucks in this same strip mall, but Bean Bar is such an amazing improvement!
