This is such a cute hole in the wall coffee/cafe/bar right in Batavia! I sat outside to meet a photographer for my wedding and it's very cozy, and right next to the river. It's a small place, almost like a small house but there are so many areas to sit - outside or inside. When I walked inside to order something, I immediately got greeted by a younger girl and told her I'd never been here before and that I'd be a minute. She then happily said she'd be happy to go over the menu with me and what they offer. She gave me some food recommendations and when I couldn't decide if I wanted an alcohol or coffee drink, she suggested making me a boozy cocktail, which was great!! She was also just extremely nice and you could tell that she cared about the place she works. I waited for my chicken quesadilla (which didn't take long at all) and the chef came out to hand it to me and make a joke about it being the best one I'll ever have. He was right! And I asked if he was the owner, judging by how the brief conversation we had about it being a cute hole in the wall, and he was. He introduced himself and his daughter was also working so it was nice to know I was supporting a small family business. They said business has been a little light, but I was really surprised because of how cute this place was and how popular this kind of place would be near where I live. They have live music on Fridays too! Overall, this is the definition of a small family hole in the wall place. They made me feel extremely welcome to the point of me hanging out by myself eating outside, when I originally planned on bringing it back home! Would give a zero. One of the women working the counter was just truly awful. There were two other customers in the store, and my group of 3 came in to order sandwiches and coffees. After leaving a 20% tip, one of the members of our group stepped to the side of the counter and asked for the receipt. The girl behind the counter snapped and yelled, "don't come behind the bar!" The member of my group, confused, said, "could I just have the receipt?". This girl then snagged and threw the receipt at us. I just can't believe some people live their lives so angrily. Completely baffled by that behavior, and I have never seen anything like it. Will never be coming back. Really great place for a filling lunch. I had the quesadilla, and hubs had the Buffalo chicken wrap. Piping hot and yummy! We topped it off afterwards with coffees. Good nitro brew! Also, everything was very clean. -- I would possibly deduct half a star for the music, as we enjoy tunes that are a bit more chill at a coffeehouse in the middle of the day, but that wouldn't stop us from going back. I'm so excited Batavia has this new, fantastic coffee shop and restuarant! The vanilla latte I ordered was delicious and I sat outside on their patio to take a look at the river. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE It's been years since I've had a worse dining experience than I just had at Bean & Brew. We got there at lunchtime and they were a bit busy (3-4 other customers trying to order.) The person working the coffee bar was trying to take food orders and pour coffee at the same time so it took a bit to get our order in. My daughter ordered a coffee drink and a BLT. I ordered water, a cup of chili, and a buffalo chicken wrap. Her coffee was ready soon enough, but I had to wait about 15 minutes for a water (after reminding the staff several times.) Soon after my chili came out. It was ice cold. After waiting a few minutes I was able to flag someone down and let them know. They came back a while later with hot chili, but forgot the crackers and said they would go get some. While the chili was hot, the pepperoncini they put in it was still very cold. She never came back with the crackers, so we had to flag someone again to remind her. When she finally came back I told her about the pepper and she said, oh that's because we keep them refrigerated. No shit, but do you want an ice-cold pepper in your hot chili? Anyway soon after the entrees showed up. The kid's BLT looked good and I did taste the bacon. Mine however was another story. When we ordered I asked them to sub blue cheese for the ranch. Later, when she brought out my daughter's food she told me they didn't have blue cheese. I said ranch was fine. The wrap came out about 5 minutes later. I took two bites and on the second, bit into a large chunk of chicken bone. I walked up front and asked them to find a manager or owner. Turns out neither one was available, so I would have to deal with the same person who forgot my water and crackers, and could care less whether the chili was cold or hot. So I told her I found a big chunk of bone in my wrap, and told her I wanted it taken off the bill. She lied right to my face, saying she couldn't do that, but she could give me a gift card. I asked for the owner's number. She came back with the money for my wrap (cash, I paid credit) and his number. Hope they publish this before I talk with him. It will save us both a lot of time. As for anyone else reading this...1) stay the hell away from this place and 2) if you are forced to eat here, don't tip until you're ready to walk out the door. I think the way they cash you out, paying the tip upfront just encourages and rewards the staff's lackadaisical attitude. read more

I just had a breakfast Sausage and Egg Croissant. I was just expecting a yummy Croissant. But let me try and tell you how AMAZING this was. I can't remember the last time I ate something that was so good it made you actually stop eating and say WOW this is Fn good! Yeah! That Good! This was just breakfast. Wasn't too happy that they didn't seem well trained as baristas. Perhaps some more knowledge and deeper training would help. I didn't see any shot timing so the espresso was kinda sour, or a thermometer for the milk but she got the right temp anyway. I originally ordered a hot green tea matcha, but they didn't have that which isn't a big deal. I then ordered a breve and let the barista know what I meant. The barista was extremely friendly and I love the atmosphere, so I'd definitely come back if the shot timing thing gets sorted out. I realize my order wasn't even a normal order and they are a new company. I really hope everything turns out awesome for you in 2020. Sorry the review seems so negative. Only my second time. I recently went with my family and this short blonde hair lady was extremely rude. She kept talking to me and my family like we were stupid. We were just trying to order, I work at a coffee shop and understand people can be rude but we were very nice to her. We were waiting for a bit when we first came in and told us we should've went to the back to get her?? She was very mean and passive and I felt kinda uncomfortable to order. Our friends who ordered after us, got their food before ours which I didn't understand. We waited & waited until they were very well finished & we still didn't get our food. After looking & saw we order 35 minutes ago I finally said something to the girl working at the coffee counter. I was confused because no one was in front of us when we ordered. She said sorry & would check on it. She brought out just the side of Mac & cheese but nothing else we ordered. After sharing that, we waited & still nothing. Went up to the girl again & said we wanted our money back it's ridiculous we waited over 30 minutes for food & payed $40. Finally I think the owner?(didn't state his name) came out & handed us our food in boxes. He apologized saying the pulled pork is cooked to order & takes longer... um ok? Sounds like an excuse to me. It was 2 little sliders shouldn't take that long. Plus our friend that got the loaded Mac & cheese had pork on it... he gave us $20 back. Didn't seem very genuine to me & didn't seem like he cared at all if we ever come back. So we won't be back! The seating and layout of the place is strange as well. Finally, a nice, casual dining establishment in historic Batavia Ohio. Matthew and his team did a great job in creating a warm, friendly environment. There are multiple smaller rooms/TV's on both levels with sofas and bar stool type seats. The excellent coffee is roasted by Deeper Roots, local to Cincinnati. We loved the food. They have light fare all day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We got the soft pretzel/cheese starter and then jerk chicken and chicken salad sandwiches. All excellent. The staff members are very friendly. We are not beer drinkers but we noticed a good variety featuring Sons of Toil, also local. Go there. You'll like it. read more

Got the BBQ Mac and Cheese which was a very small portion and it was somehow 12 bucks. It tasted like they went over to UDF, heated up a frozen meal, and sold it for 12 dollars. I had friends that got other things on the menu and they all complained how small it was and how much they had to pay. I will say it is very nice inside and brightens up Batavia, but if they want to stay open they need to lower their prices or at least give bigger portions. read more

We visited this restaurant for the first time. The menu choices were small, the prices outrageous. I ordered a bacon and egg burrito, it was $9 and it was nothing to brag about. My husband ordered chicken quesadillas and it was nothing more than an appetizer priced at $12 ! No one checked on us during our meal, never offered to refill our drinks. When the food was brought out, there was no interaction from the server. We were not offered salt or pepper. And the only time we saw the staff member who took our order was when she came to get my plate. Never said a word. What a waste of my money and time.
