This place is okay. They have a pretty good amount of beads, but not really a very wide selection. I like gemstones, and their selection was very limited. And, what they do have, are all in a case, which makes hard to look at them unless you ask the woman to pull out all the trays. Lots of glass beads and some others, but I didn't find anything that really stood out. Everything was pretty run of the mill. I think House of Beads in Walnut Creek is a much better option. read more

As the bead stores on Shattuck Avenue have closed, someone mentioned this store on Solano. I've been there previously and was not really impressed with the inventory. This time I went because I wanted something specific and went again. The owner was busy with a customer and the latter heard me mention to someone who came with me (she did not enter the store as she is wary of social distancing) that I have to wait as someone else is being attended to. When I asked about the item I was interested in, I also inquired if there were any specials or sales. The owner answered haughtily, "there is hardly enough of anything, why should anything be on sale?'. I was thinking in my mind like, "wow, lady, it was a question not a demand". She was a bit more tolerant because I did buy not just browse, but seriously, in this pandemic, the owner is overdue for an attitude adjustment. I do not see stock flying out of her store and with this treatment, I can consider shopping online where I get better service without the judgement. And she had this little card which said for every $10 we get a stamp. My purchase was in the 3 digits and she then said, oh, you get one each time. For. The. Measly. $5. Discount. Buyers beware! Bad attitude. Bad disposition. She may not need your business. Go somewhere else. read more

I made my first visit a couple of days ago, and was nicely impressed. They have a lovely collection of seed beads, Delicas, duo-type beads and other beads; they also have findings including some especially nice ones, etc. The space is nice and open and bright. There's a big table in the adjacent room that will be perfect for classes. Two that I grabbed postcards for are: * Basic wire & earrings: Jun 9, 1-330pm, $35 + kit you buy in advance of class (types of wire, wire tools, simple loop, 1-step looper, open/close jump rings/earwires, styles of earrings) * Intermediate wire skills: Jul 7, 1-4pm, $35 + kit I spent a long time looking for something very specific to go with something I brought in, and got (extensive but not intrusive; just right) help/attention, even though I wasn't buying much. Others shopping while we were there got similarly helpful/attentive assistance. I am looking forward to becoming a regular and feeding my addiction here. read more

Went in to buy a hoops for my preexisting cartilage piercing. They had a few solid options for gold hoops, found the perfect one (had to buy the set but I expected that). The lady was super helpful and even helped me put the earring in which ended up being harder than usual since the gauge of the hoop was larger than the piercing hole. It was a little painful but she was very gentle and so kind !! so many thanks to her, probably wouldn't have been able to do it on my own ! read more

I am amazed of this much of selection of beads and crystals. I sell and alter formal dresses. Wow, I can find almost any beads to match the designer beaded dresses I sell. The prices are not much different than the wholesale prices from LA or New York. I'm surprised. Beside, I can buy only as many as I need instead of buying large quantity bags that I will end up using less than a half. Some of them have a little higher prices, but I rather pay more for the quality. The dresses I carry need really good quality material. I will definitely by one of my major suppliers. read more

Bead shops seem to be fewer and far between, but unfortunately I have been here twice and both times felt like this place has been a bit lacking in the customer service department. The first time I had to wait a goodly amount several times while the owners were puttering at the front desk. The second time, I bought some jewelry wire by the length and the woman was helpful in selecting the right gauge, but I was given a piece that seemed to be a bit shorter than what I requested. When I got home, I found that there was a partial cut about 1.5 inches down (which broke when I tried to wrap my piece), making the piece even shorter. When I looked online for wire, I saw that I paid about 3 times the price (and part of it was unusable). read more

Just went back recently with the wife and kids and still loving this place. The help was friendly and knowledgeable and their bead selection can't be beat in the bay area. Please note, this place should almost be considered a specialty boutique for beads. This isn't a Michael's or other such hobby big box stores. My two daughters got their ears pierced here and I was happy with the owner's careful handling of this big event. However, when I returned with a simple jewelry repair, eager to support a local business, I was shocked to be treated with extreme rudeness by the same owner. She responded with immediate impatience and frustration to my simple questions of how she was going to make the repair on a necklace (a question that involved aesthetics and not my challenging her ability or craft). She simply told me I could go somewhere else. This degeneration of affairs happened in the space of less than five minutes. Even more maddening was the fact that I had made two previous trips to the shop but had to leave because of the wait (only one customer ahead of me each time but the owner did not acknowledge me or seem to be in any hurry to get to me). Quick intro, I've been in the beading/jewelry making industry for years. I used to work at Baubles and Beads on Shattuck which unfortunately went out of business a while ago. Obtaining jewelry supplies can be tricky and since the changing economy in the U.S., good independant bead stores are hard to come by. That being said, I do sometimes depend on global markets for specialty items I can not get state side. I called this store to inquire if they carried 1/2 hard 24 & 26 gauge .925 wire. After being told they only sold it by the foot, I inquired why not by ounce or 1/2 ounce? These quantites were typically how I was used to buying it and seeing it sold. The woman on the phone then replied they do sell in those quantities and that it's $60 for an ounce. I asked why so much since the market value is at $15.47 an ounce (I do expect some mark up but 4x is extreme). She then said, quite rudely, to buy it online then and that she doesn't have to explain anything to me. Then hung up. I called back asking why so rude? I wasn't calling to complain and I had a few other questions, she replied she thought I had hung up (she hung up on me mid sentence) and then asked me if I didn't think she was busy? Don't I think there might be other customers in the store?? I plan on visiting this store in person. I'm aghast at how this person treated me on the phone. I don't know if this person was the owner (god I hope not, that says nothing good for the store) or maybe just a disingenuous/uninterested salesperson. There's a tight network of people in the East Bay who are respectful/helpful/sincere in helping people within the industry, whether it be in sales, teaching, etc. I've never been treated so rudely and with such disdain. As I said, I do plan on stopping into the store. I will introduce myself and update this review if there is any reason to do so. read more

Beadazzled is very much still in business---they have just moved to a new, and better location! More light! They are stll on mt diablo blvd between Chico's and the Wells fargo bank in the corner of old st marys' road. Their primary focus is on seed beads and they have a great selection, but they have plenty of stones, crystals, findings, tools etc. the prices are moderate, and Lilian, the owner, is very helpful. There is parking in a lot behind that is shared with Wells Fargo, it is a bit of an abrupt turn to get into the lot. read more

Poor selection, bad service, dirty, and much more expensive than other bead stores. The only lady working there was taking care of a newborn and a toddler and was bothered when I asked her a question. I wanted her help finding something in the disorganized store! I wanted head pins and she had no matching clasps of the same metal and was like, "Well, that's what we have." I still bought some stuff but should have just gone to Michael's, which I did after. The owner, Lillian, has the best selection of seed beads, pearls, glass beads, stones, and findings of any store I've ever visited....and that's a lot of stores! I think her prices are very reasonable. She has an excellent eye and I find her very helpful. Everything is well organized and labeled, and if I can't find something, I just ask. I just read Robin's review and am totally flummoxed. She went there looking for rhinestones...not something Lillian even carries! Pretty good supply for a local store. The owner was very helpful and answered my obviously beginner questions. She has a good selection of wires, findings, in both base metals and plated and filled. There is also a nice selection of semi-precious beads, along with brass, gold, silver and copper beads and charms, clasps, etc. I will drive an extra 15 minutes to get to her store to get what I want (as compared to my local store). Not one-of-a-kind stuff, but definitely good for what you need especially if you're in the middle of a project and realized.....crap! you need a bail! or something else. Bedazzled is a local bead store with loads of beautiful suprises. Lillian, the owner is very helpful and willing to teach you on the spot if you have a question. She carries loads of gemstone beads. Unlike other larger stores she sells many individual stone (briolettes etc.) and will often sell 1/2 a strand. Her selection is wonderful! I was thrilled to find that a new bead store had opened in Berkeley. (The last one left, Baubles and Beads, closed last year.) I read from another review that the owner pierces ears and I needed one of my lobes repierced. The owner remarked to another customer that she's been piercing ears longer than she's been beading. I needed to get my ears re-pierced because the holes I had gotten as a baby were off centered and had become too big. Also, one of my ears is lower than the other. The women who did it at this location was THE BEST. She has an eye for exactly where the hole should be. She marked them first. She was so nice, efficient and right on the mark!! I read below that Beadazzled was closed, but that is not correct. I just visited the new location for Beadazzled, on 3533 Mount Diablo Boulevard, Lafayette, and like it very much. The new space is bright and airy, with quite a nice selection of seed beads and other supplies. The owner is very helpful, as always, and listens to her clients when we suggest she carry a new line of beads or supplies.
