I passed by today while the store was still being stocked and was immediately drawn in by the wonderful scents from within the shop. This place is perfectly decorated and the shelves are stocked in aesthetically pleasing ways. The best way I can describe it is that it looks classy vintage chic. It is reminiscent of those random boutiques you bump into while walking in Le Marais. This store is stocked with everything from Berkeley-made jewelry (you can custom order) and great scented candles and soaps to umbrellas and nail polish that is formaldehyde-free and suitable for pregnant women. It does not get any better than this place for me. I came here after spending all day at DMV and was so glad to be greeted by such a friendly sales associate who was nice and knowledgeable. read more

Butter London Nail Polishes. Rhetorical question here--do you know how long I have been looking for Butter London Nail Polishes?! Well, lo and behold I found them right here at Viv & Ingrid at Oxford Hall! Here is a place I can indulge my inner girly-girly girliness and divest myself of my armor to relax. Indulge my Euro Francophile rock chic with all the Butter London cosmetics, Volupsa candles, Maison Boucher chocolates, stationery, accessories, and of course Viv&Ingrid jewelry. I tried on some of the cute rings that were at the till. And if it was not so busy when I stopped in, I would have bought one. Definitely feels like a shabby chic type of boutique in Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and/or Berkeley for that matter. And I was quite surprised to find out that we Cal Students get a discount with our student IDs. It turns out that Viv and Ingrid are UC Berkeley alumni (Go Bears!). It was 10% off of the total purchase price but it was when I was there, it was changed to 15% off. I proudly showed my Cal ID card when I purchased my Butter London nail lacquer. Love this little shop. Owners are friendly and staff is extremely helpful. This is how all little boutiques should be! I have to say the first time I made a trip to this shop, I was severely disappointed because I had hustled my butt out there to make it before they closed but upon arriving, a woman outside told me they were shut down for a private event. MAJOR BUMMER I return a few weeks later and to my relief they were open! After browsing the pieces and chatting it up with one of the owners, I retold my story of my first attempt to the store and she was kind enough to give me 10% off my order that day! Apparently their publicist had organized the whole ordeal and was in full force the previous day. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR SURE Again I returned yesterday to exchange a bracelet I had previously bought after finding a different one on their online shop. After multiple attempts to make it to their store and failing, I finally was able to get there a month and a half later after numerous back and forth emails. And without fail, Kat (an excellent member of their staff) had my exchange bracelet ready to go! She couldn't have made it any simpler. THIS IS OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE STORE IN BERKELEY!! They sell butter and lippman polish, for those of you who don't want to trek out to nordstrom to find these brands. Also, they have SAMPLE SALES twice a year. They have one around Christmas in December every year, and sometime in the summer for their mid-year one. Definitely planning to hit that up. read more

I have purchased their products from a local handcrafted arts shop at home and from the designers website but when in Berkeley I like to stop into their little retail shop. The founders/designers were former UCB students who switched to this work from other careers. I am glad they did. This place is so adorable! The store itself is so cute, with cute little vintage pieces (I want their mirrors and the chandelier, but too bad they're not for sale!). I pass it every day on the way and from work/yoga. So I always take a peak through the window to see if there's anything I "need". Great little spot in a strange location that's close to UC, close to downtown, but really feels out of place based on the the nearby local business and the heavy UC foot traffic. The shop has a decidedly European aesthetic with lots of different European-inspired brands that are actually made in the U.S. I was happy to discover Royal Apothic hand creams and perfume oils and am loving my delicately sweet orange blossom scent. Maison Bouche chocolates, which look as if they've stepped off the plane from France are actually hand made in Oakland. There's an extensive selection of flavors from which to choose. And of course, the Viv & Ingrid jewelry is the showcase of the shop. The jewelry is displayed at the front counter and I like the fact that even though the jewelry is their main business, they have diversified by offering other items like the above-mentioned Maison Bouche, Royal Apothic as well as Butter nail polish, Jonathan Adler and a small selection of cards. This place is a dream! Was on a hunt for some silver jewelry today to commemorate a special event. I found this shop and Ingrid was so welcoming and energetic. Her pieces are absolutely beautiful! I was instantly obsessed with the beaded rings and very very happy to know that most of them, along with the hoops were hand beaded. Everything is beautifully crafted and consciously sourced. This business completely aligned with me in every way! More importantly, I had a very special interaction with Ingrid that definitely meant more than the purchase. My whole purpose was to buy a piece that was good quality but also supported local and independent merchants. There is a very real and scary epidemic happening to independent shops that have been apart of Berkeley's rich and unique culture for decades and they are falling off because their businesses are being targeted by local congress that are heavily taxing restaurants, competing with franchises. SO cute. Was strolling the area around the Berkeley campus on the way to Cinnaholic when a friend and I stumbled across this adorable little shop. We knew we HAD to stop by on the way back. Everything about this boutique is just adorable - the owners, the display, the puppy that was running around when we walked in... I spent a good half hour browsing the shelves and talking with one of the salespeople. She was super sweet and friendly. As we were shopping, she even turned on some Christmas music and plugged in a space heater with a fireplace visual to get us into the holiday spirit. They have jewelry, stationary, makeup, perfume, anything girly and delicate you can imagine. I wanted to buy out the store and replicate the display in my room! It's so refreshing to visit small businesses like this that really make your shopping experience special. I bought a two-pack of Butter London polishes (for $10!) and a travel journal for my friend. This place is super cute! You can tell the owner really cares about getting the right item for each customer. She seemed to have a strong relationship with almost everyone who came in while I was there and was super accommodating when I asked for her to get me a specific earring pair from the back. This shop is adorable, and the store owner Ingrid and her assistant Ariana are so helpful and personable. I found a lipstick when i was last there, but didn't buy for lack of time. When I couldn't find the product online later, I contacted the store. They responded promptly at off hours, held their last lipstick for me, allowed me to purchase over the phone (since I couldn't make it back to the store in timely fashion), and even offered to research whether the product was being discontinued by the maker. They have so many treasures here, all so beautifully packaged (like their jewelry) that they seem good enough to eat. And you CAN eat some of them too (yummy chocolates and saltwater taffy)! They have local chocolate (Yum!), candies, and lovely candles, cremes, and make up too. It's like girl heaven.
