Everybody should have a trusted lawyer and a trusted plumber in their address-book. Once you've got those covered (and maybe an I.T. person?), I'd suggest having a trusted jeweler isn't much further down the list. We've been coming to Fisher's ever since we moved to El Cerrito a dozen years ago. They ALWAYS treat us with kindness and patience. (Before EC we lived in Oakland and our family went to Given Gold on Piedmont Ave, they were the ones that originally referred us to Fisher's) For well over a decade, my wife had a wonderful, intricate, 100-year-old estate ring that I found after a very long search. It was so perfect to her style and taste, but my wife is proudly somebody who knows how to work with her hands, and the ring was delicate and frequently needed to be repaired. The jeweler at Fisher's would over-and-over tell us that we really needed to find a newer more durable ring, and he patiently explained to us in detail why this ring couldn't simply be repaired over-and-over without impacting the integrity of the ring, but he also patiently repaired it time-and-again. It took us many years to find the perfect artist to craft a new ring as unique as the first (and re-using the same modest stones). I'm proud to say that we now have a new ring and no longer need to go multiple times a year to Fisher's for repairs. Having not stopped by for over a year now, it was such a pleasant experience today when my wife stopped in to ask for help reshaping her ring after I accidentally smooshed her fingers between the cooler and the car trunk (bad husband!!). The jeweler happened to be in, and he was able to quickly make-perfect my wife's new ring in only a few minutes. We were fully ready to compensate them for their time, it made my wife's whole day when they said she didn't even owe him any payment for his time other than to have a Happy Thanksgiving. We're thankful for the kind people at Fisher's for sure! Experiences like this are why we consider them our regular jewelers. Any time we need a professional repair, appraisal, cleaning, etc., this is the place we come. My husband and I went in for an appraisal on my Vera Wang Engangement ring which he purchased from Zales for me back in 2017. There was a little blonde girl who helped up and took my ring and said it was fake and make of brass. I felt she was prejudice toward us since by how we were dressed and how we looked. She was so insecure when she even spoke to us. You can tell by the way her demeanor was that we weren't welcome the moment we stepped in that building. You shouldn't waste your time here, unless you're some cookie-cutter, snobby, yuppie Berkeley vibe. Otherwise, don't go here. We went for an appraisal up the street at Oaks Jewelers and we got so much help from a gentleman named Jeff. He was very informative on what our options were since we did get our ring repaired by another jeweler in Castro Valley years ago. read more

This is as good a wedding announcement as any I will make, guys! Some of you have known Trung and I since we met. We're sealing the deal and getting married sometime in the next couple of months. We were actually introduced VIA a Yelp party his sister brought him to (back when we did stuff like meet in person at DYL's) about 6 years ago. If you don't know what a DYL is, don't worry about it, that liquor soaked chapter of our lives is over. Heh, right. Anyway- Fisher's. The first time I came into this small Solano storefront was a few years ago in December. I parked in front of the shop to get a haircut at Supercuts across the street. After my cut (which was okay!) I noticed a festive holiday party was underway and checked out Fisher's Custom jewelry, had some champagne, and chatted up friends and family of the jewelers featured there, as well as some of the jewelers themselves. I had a great time but didn't buy anything. After shopping around a little bit once we decided to get engaged, we really hadn't found what we were looking for. Yeah, I'm kind of a control freak/opinionated about jewelery and this wasn't something Trung was going to purchase on his own or surprise me with, so we ended up going the custom route here. Once the process started it was so comfortable we knew we'd come to the right place. Not only convenient for us because it's here in the East Bay, but also not pushy, or sleazy, or loud and overwhelming, but just easy going and down to earth. It was incredibly fun and a little nerve wracking to choose everything myself, but we used a estate piece that's pictured in one of the business photos here on Yelp as a model and inspiration- it's a little larger than mine, and of course vintage, so mine has that vibe but it's brand new and in yellow gold. I think the most fun part was selecting a loose diamond. Christa ordered a few in our price range, that would work in the setting, and I got to check them all out. The choice was clear- and size DOES matter in this department, as much as I thought otherwise when the process started. Wink. Now that I've had my engagement ring the better part of a year, I still love it, and our wedding bands are almost done. As fate would have it, one of the gentleman I met that night in December happened to be the jeweler Trung chose to custom make his band! I highly recommend Fishers. I feel they offer a good value for their services and pieces, and really make you feel like part of the family once you start working with them. We've been able to pay in installments, pay by phone, receive lots of personalized attention, and just have a good time when we come in. I can't wait to see our bands!! My wife bought her wedding ring from your store. We live in San Francisco and today, in planning a visit to your store, we consulted your website, your Facebook page, and your answering machine message. Neither of these three sources accurately posted your hours for this week, and the fact that you'll be closed until January 1. This is horrible customer service, made worse by the relative ease with which this could have been remedied. A simple change in your answering machine message or FB page would have saved us a lot of time on the road and grief in dealing with traffic. I had my engagement ring made here. It's a nice place with friendly women working the store. Most of the jewelry here is either A. not my style or B. out of my price range anyway, but it has a welcoming neighborhood vibe about it. That was important to me when I was leaving my precious stones behind. So I had my ring made here and it wasn't a complicated design. In fact, I had photos of what I wanted since it was just replacing a ring I had lost. Anyway, it didn't come out they way I had wanted---close but not quite. I called the store and asked if they could do a gemstone ID for me and was told they could. When I arrived at the store I was greeted by Krista who guessed it was aquamarine by first glance. She then did a refractive measurement on her device and confirmed that it was indeed an aquamarine. She wouldn't take any money for the service. I Recently bought an engagement ring on Blue Nile and wanted to make sure the GIA report matched the actual diamond that was on the ring and was appraised at the right value. Now a days there are so many scams from buying on the Internet and no one wants to get ripped off. Blue Nile had a good reputation and delivered when the ring came in the mail. So the next step was to get it checked by a local jeweler. I Called another jewelry place to see if they did appraisals and he said he would charge $550 to check it and needed an appointment. I didn't agree to the price so he recommended I check with Fishers in Albany. I called Fishers and was told that my engagement ring can be quickly check for free and if I wanted it appraised it would cost around $100, which was reasonable. So I walked in and Krista was more than glad to check my diamond and GIA. She saw that the diamond inscription number matches the report and even gave me a rough appraisal of my diamond. I came to Fisher's because I needed some appraisals for my mom's jewelry. I don't really wear jewelry and needed some guidance on these pieces that were passed down to me. They staff was amazing. Friendly and very helpful. They gave me great advice and estimates for my jewelry. They didn't charge me which was insane! I brought in 12 pieces and they spent at least an hour and half with me going over values. Sadly they were valued a lot less than I thought. Maybe that's why they felt bad about charging me? Or just nice I think. They were great about telling me about some auctions I could try or repurposing some of the diamonds into a more stylish setting. First visit, I brought in a family heirloom ring that I wanted a little more information on. She gave me an appraisal, a background on the stones and metal, and cleaned the ring. After taking up almost an hour of her time, I asked her what I owe and she said that it was free!!! I went back today to get a wedding band that my fiancé made me stretched a little bit. Again, super friendly, forthright about what I could reasonably expect, and immediate service. Remembering my previous visit, instead of asking what I owed, I rephrased the question and asked if I could please pay her for the help. She refused. So nice!!!! I left with a warm heart. It is nice to be remembered and taken care of. I brought my wedding ring set in to have it sized up. We had our ring sets made a Fisher's over ten years ago. I was welcomed into the shop as if I had been in the store only a few weeks ago. My rings were sized up quickly with only a minimal charge for materials. They look brand new and fit again! My now husband worked with the ladies here to design my engagement ring. It is so beautiful and unique. We went on to get both our bands and my wedding day earings here. They have a lot of local designers, which we liked. My band ended up being 300 less than it was marked at. What was amazing to me was I had already agreed on the higher price. 6 weeks later I go to pick up and they tell me my ring was priced wrong. And my grooms ring was also a little less. I would have been none the wiser. They could have just pocketed the money, but insread they were honest and transparent. We will be using them for all our jewelry needs. I also have to say how comfortable the store is. Honestly jewelry stores can be intimidating. They are friendly, no pressurea and they have beautiful jewelry at lots of price points. There are things for less than 200 dollars. My day of earings were bought 2 days before my wedding as an after thought. Very affordable. Just went in to Fisher's to get my wedding and engagement ring cleaned (free service for life when you buy your rings there). Without prompting, the owner checks my engagement ring to make sure the diamonds are intact and the settings are still good. She says she wants to tighten the settings up. I didn't realize my ring came with a lifetime warranty and couldn't be more pleased with how much they truly care about the quality of what they sell and making sure your treasures last forever! The selection of rings (which I couldn't help but check out while I was there) is just gorgeous and they have so many original and special pieces. As for the jewelry, it is a boutique-styled store featuring lots of hand-made one-of-a-kind art jewelry pieces made by local and not-so-local small artists. You will find interesting and unusual pieces not found in other stores. They also feature a giant case of engagement rings and wedding bands ranging from 14k and 18kt Gold, Platinum, Mokume and Titanium. Krista is a Graduate Gemologist and they offer appraisal services for insurance purposes. They feature Ideal Cut diamonds and offer design and custom jewelry services as well as excellent repairs and stone setting. Great taste! I have been buying jewelry from Fisher's since at least 1998, probably before. My wife is very picky. She hates glitz, and only likes classy and understated jewelry, never old fashioned, never heavy or bulky. I spend many hours every year looking for what she likes. I have bought more jewelry for her from Fisher's than from all the other stores that I have bought from together. I had my wedding ring made here 20 years ago. It was the third ring from this marriage. Long story, don't ask. OK, here's the brief version. The first jeweler blew the casting and redid it, but he didn't have enough white gold, so he used a bit of yellow gold, which gave it an unacceptably yellow color. I only wear silver and white gold. So I lived w/ that ring for a year or so and then took it back to be remade. Why I didn't choose the same design again I don't remember, but I lived w/ that second ring a few years and quickly got bored w/ it. A friend was wanting to sell her diamond, so I bought it and in April of 1988 I brought it to Fisher's and chose a setting. Part of the service they offer is to clean and inspect it yearly. Today I brought it in and was helped by Krista, who bought the store from the original owner a few years ago. I'd not met her before. She asked if I'd ever had the part that holds the stone replaced (I forget the term she used) and when I said no, she commented on the good shape it was in. She said one prong was starting to wear, but given the shape it was in after 20 years, she thought it could last until next year. I've always enjoyed going in there and finally meeting Krista was an additional pleasure. read more
