a plate of breakfast food

Good restaurant. Went for breakfast and got 2 eggs, sausage and hash browns. Pro's: Food was decent. Nothing to get excited about but nothing to be mad about after you eat. Biscuits were pretty good. Didn't take long to get food. Cheap Con's: I wouldn't recommend getting pancakes. They don't taste that great. A lot of Confederate flag symbols everywhere inluding colonel Reb Mascots. I got breakfast potatoes when I ordered hash browns. Solid 3 out 5. Most likely won't be back because of the food and the Confederate symbols.

Staple in Oxford, MISSISSIPPI for breakfast for generations. The building is decades old and decorations remind you of Southern heritage complete with Rebel flags. Best place in Oxford for patty sausage and the bacon is well done as well. The toast is the way we like it (white, well-buttered, and toasted) but the biscuits are an acquired taste. The pancakes are what you'd expect as are the grits, which require some added sugar for taste. Overall a good breakfast experience whether you are a local or if you are in town for a visit. We come for the party sausage and toast.

This place was recommended by a local and a friend so we tried it out. Let me start by saying we loved the staff- they were very personable and were yelling back and forth across the rooms and to the kitchen! The restaurant is old and dated as are the tables, floor- basically everything- even the soap in the bathroom was the pink powdered type I remember In elementary school. Now for the food- I ordered the mushroom Burger and fries- I had basically no flavor- the waitress told me it had mayo, but it must have been miracle whip and the burger had no flavor at all- fries were equally tasteless- I dipped everything in ketchup (which I don't normally use). The Hubby has the special with hamburger steak with onions and gravy, mashed potatoes gravy and green beans- which had a lot of vinegar in them. Maybe the breakfast is good, but bless their hearts- this meal was not worthy of our stomach space.

Let me make this easy. This restaurant has been here since 1959. If you have been around in business that long you've got to be doing something right. I had breakfast here last week for the first time in years. I ordered eggs with hash browns and toast. It was cheap and tasted good. The waitress called me baby several times. Your coffee mug or drink glass never gets empty before it's refilled. It's a place where locals and smart college students eat shunning the higher profile and fancier restaurants in town. It's open for breakfast and lunch. Yes, it's a greasy spoon restaurant that you want to come to. Go back in the Rebel Room and you will be transported back to the 1960's with the decor. Stay in the front dining room and you will feel like you are in the 1970's. Places like this are a dying breed. Go transport yourself back in time and enjoy!

Decent food, but workers have a awful attitude ruin your experience. Also takes forever to get your food. Place is good once a year.

Got a sausage biscuit from here. If you're going to charge almost $4.00 for a sausage biscuit it should take more than 3 bites to eat it.

Gone in twice for lunch, within their posted hours...I was told they were closed. Today the "head waitress" was rude and snarky about it.

Beacon = Oxford. You cannot come to Oxford and not have either breakfast or lunch at the Beacon. Simple and delicious southern food.

Not good. Special chopped steak was not done-pink in middle. Fries were cold. Speckled butter beans were soo over cooked. Poor poor food.

Be forewarned during football weekends…read more We made dinner reservations to celebrate a birthday. We had dined here before and really enjoyed both the food and the ambiance, so we thought it would be the perfect place to return for this special occasion. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were led to another part of the hotel and seated in a stark ballroom with TVs. The setting reminded us more of a corporate meeting or awards ceremony than a nice birthday dinner. To say the least, it was not what we expected or had envisioned for the occasion. When we asked why we were seated in the ballroom, we were told that it was a way for the hotel to capture additional business and take advantage of an otherwise missed opportunity. While we understand the business reasoning, guests should be informed of this arrangement when making their reservations rather than having it come as an unpleasant surprise upon arrival. If you're making a reservation here during a football weekend, be sure to ask where you will actually be seated and whether the setting is the restaurant you were expecting. Don't assume that being seated in a ballroom with TVs will be suitable for everyone--especially when celebrating a birthday or other special occasion. We enjoyed our previous experience here, which is why this visit was particularly disappointing.

It is located right on the campus of Ole Miss, so very convenient! I would imagine this hotel is PACKED for home football games. The furnishings were fine, beds were comfortable, pillows comfortable. Needs a refresh, for sure. Removing the carpet and putting down new floors would give some life into this room! More lighting would help as well. The bathroom is old and in much need of an overhaul!! Water pressure was almost non-existent. It felt like I was showering with just a trickle of water. But, still grateful I had one to use after a long day of moving boxes and furniture. I would definitely stay here again. I just now know to expect mediocre rooms. The pictures on the website make the rooms look much bigger, brighter, and newer. The lobby is beautiful and the outside of the building is beautiful as well. Just a big letdown when opening the door to your room after pulling up to the big beautiful building and walking through the spacious and beautiful lobby.
