I was in town due to a family emergency. I didn't have a reservation for a place to stay and was scouting around for lodging. Convenient location in the heart of Lewes. It's across the canal from downtown Lewes and a few blocks away from the Lewes public beach. I was there before Memorial Day weekend. Their busy season had not started, yet. Staff was scarce and typically only available during the day. There wasn't anyone staffing the front desk in the evenings or throughout the night. What was surprising is that the hotel had me pay for my entire stay upfront, and not just registering me with my AMEX card. I was a bit surprised that they required that. I don't think I have had a hotel / motel require full payment upfront. I don't know if this is their usual practice. Room price was competitive for a touristy beach location. For amenities, the have an outdoor pool and lounging deck located on the second floor. Otherwise, fairly basic hotel. They did not offer a continental breakfast, but did have fresh coffee in the lobby in the morning. There weren't coffee makers in the rooms. Hotel has an inviting beach decor, but is dated. In fact, they were replacing carpets in the lobby when I was there. I was a bit surprised when I came down in the morning and found lobby area closed off. The installers did not appreciate that I walked through, but they also didn't leave me much choice. Staff were friendly when I crossed paths with them. Housekeeping only entered and cleaned my room once through the week. I was okay with that, as I didn't need much for the week. I did have to ask for additional soap and shampoo and they graciously provided it. My room was comfortable and clean. The wall air conditioning unit was quite noisy. I wouldn't be opposed to staying here, if back in the area in the future. Just a basic hotel, located near most of what Lewes offers and a reasonable price. read more

Somewhat dated motel near the beach with tired but clean facilities, family-friendly with cheerful staff. Pros: * *really* family-friendly - great lobby with toys and puzzles for the kids, decent midsized if somewhat odd pool via a second-floor causeway. * *very* friendly staff * location can't be beat - a long block to the beach, a very scenic block the other way to the short but quaint and fun downtown Lewes, a mile and a half from Cape Henlopen State Park (and beach) and a mile or so from the ferry. Perfect if you want a Lewes getaway and you want to leave your car in Cape May. * clean, in our experience. Cons: * a bit noisy, and that's not just because we were noisy. * expensive in season; we got stuck with a nearly undiscounted rate because of the way we made our reservation, for a larger single room that could sleep four, and it ran us $290 once all the taxes, etc. were counted in. * almost no amenities: thin coffee in the lobby and basic toiletries, that's it. The TV was an old CRT with snow on half the cable channels. Nickelodeon's audio kept dropping out for reasons unbeknownst to us. * no elevator, narrow stairs = logistic "fun" with any amount of luggage. So, this sort of adds up to a classic three stars - pros balance the cons, it really depends on what your tolerance for the cons vs. your appetite for the pros are. Note there's a "deli" two doors down on the ground floor that serves breakfast starting at 7, which suffices for basic nutrition. read more

Great place to stay. A bit older but everything was clean. Has a second floor outdoor pool. We had a standard room. King sized bed, tv, chair, desk, balcony and bathroom. Nothing else needed. Location is the best part about this place. Bike rental store next door on one side and a pub on the other. Friendly staff. Can walk into town or to lewes beach. Great restaurants in town. Nothing bad to say, a little outdated when it comes to the furniture but overall a beautiful place to stay and just minutes from the beach and local restaurants. 2 stars is pretty generous and here is why... The location itself is 4 stars - a few blocks walk from the Lewes Public (lifeguarded) beach and an easy walk into town for dinner/shopping. The motel itself is very run-down. Bedrrom felt unclean (even our 7 year old was skeeved by the comforters. Eew.). Used my own pillowcase. Needs a makeover in a big, big way. No elevator - so you hoist your own luggage up and down the stairs. Nasty smelling room - damp and old. Linoleum in bathroom circa 1977. Peeling. YUCK! Few amenities - and $185 a night in high season. We love Lewes - but will not return here. Plus - the pool is 4 stars - large and clean. DD loved it. Plus - the day we checked out we were permitted to stay (all dy if we wished) to use the pool. towles and freshen up after the beach. Staff was friendly but - they do NOT answer the internal phone. (Called the front desk 4 times - and once let it ring twelve times - never an answer). This place needs "Hotel Impossible". It's a great location. It could be great again - if they make it over. My friends and I had an amazing time at the Beacon Motel! Maggie is so kind and gave us so many recommendations for places to eat and check out while we were staying in Lewes (for the first time). The rooms were very clean and there was free parking, as well. The pool is on the second floor and was spotless! It is only a short walk to Lewes Beach. Greeted by very friend staff at front desk. Room was clean and basic. Same with hotel. Housekeeping staff very friendly as well and did a good job keeping the entire facility spick and span. Enjoyed our nice little balcony evenings after dinner. Cannot beat location - rented bikes from Lewes Cycle Sports; quick walk to restaurants and shops; quick walk to beach (or plenty of public parking at beach this time of year); fun bike trail to Cape Henlopen. Great location, friendly staff who really make you feel welcome, and every room has a balcony. The place is a little dated, but very clean. The common areas are decorated with artwork and fish, reminding me of a big seaside vacation home; very un-corporate. The pool, at the second floor level, behind the hotel, is like being on the aft deck of a smell cruise ship; wish I'd had more time to relax there. I have been staying here since the early 1990's. The problem is, the hotel is still stuck in the 90's. There have been a few upgrades over the years like tub surrounds, toilets and TV's, but the place could stand an overall redo. GOOD: Location - distance to the beach is short. View - From the front is good over a field. Pool - Pool is still in decent shape. Ceiling fan Ironing board and iron BAD: Bedding outdated No coffee makers in the rooms No elevator (3 floors) Narrow stair case Over priced for the amenities Old style wall AC (noisy) I paid $135 in the third week of October on a Saturday. I stay at a lot of hotels for work. What concerns me is they are still using old school bedspreads as well as colored sheets and towels. I mean concerned that how are you bleaching the crap out of my sheets and towels to get the smegma off from the last guest. White is the way to go. I want to smell bleach (a little) on my bedding and towels. My wife noticed the stained box spring when I happened to have the covers back :( read more

So much for a night a rest and a few days shooing in the outlets. Drunk guy fighting with manager in the hall outside our door ,half hour later got back to sleep. 15 minutes later hear are police knocking on the door, after that my wife was wake till 430am and just left , I was awake till 6 am. and a stayed till morning . Well that second day at outlets is now 8am heading for home . Said something at front desk, all they said was " well no one got any sleep" Difference I paid to sleep , or tried too. Beacon motel... You have lost a once loyal customer. I have stayed here many times. I know it's not the most up to date, the cleaning ladies all hang around with their kids near the laundry room making you feel uncomfortable, the hallways smell like mildew, and the prices aren't the most reasonable. However, this last time, you quoted on the phone to me for a queen size bedroom for a Saturday in July at $275 a night saying all the rooms are filled. Out of control. I have never seen all the rooms filled there and it's really not the nicest of motels. I found out literally 2 seconds away Vesuvio Motel offers $160 a night, on a Saturday in July with a queen size bed. Oh all the rooms were filled and it felt way nicer. You choose. read more

Fantastic motel. When we arrived at the Beacon Motel, both my girlfriend and I knew we had to stay there. It was clean and the staff was immensely helpful. We'd been having a day filled with errors, and they helped resolve the worst of them -- that we didn't have a place to stay! The staff even helped us get out of another reservation that we really didn't want -- with an inventive spur of the moment fabrication. The Beacon Motel is right between the Lewes Beach and Second Street. Next door is a bicycle rental and pizza and beer place. They've got a pool and a 24-hour sun deck, which allows them to ban smoking throughout the rest of the hotel. If you don't have a beach house, do yourself a favor and stay at the Beacon Motel. read more

I noticed there aren't many recent reviews for this hotel, so I thought I would chime in, based on our recent five-day stay. This hotel is a wonderful place to stay, and it provides the flexibility that many of the rental options don't provide in the Lewes area (we were able to make very last-minute reservations no problem, and you can stay one night or as many nights as you want!). My family of five was comfortable our entire stay. Our room was large (two King beds and a pull out), and it was also very clean. My kids especially loved the pool, which is a great size and also very clean and loaded with nice lounge chairs and larger tables with umbrellas. The staff is incredibly welcoming and nice, from the front desk staff to the cleaning crew ... everyone went out of their way to make us happy and accommodated. I must note that they DO have an elevator now (old reviews said they didn't, so it must be a fairly recent addition in the past few years). There's always hot complimentary coffee in the large lobby, and a common area on the second floor near the pool with a ping pong table, large tables, vending machines, etc. The hotel is within walking distance of the public beach and also the downtown area. There are restaurants, ice cream shops and a convenience store all within steps of the hotel. Highly highly recommend! read more

Maggie & her staff have been so accommodating to him & the other workers. I was even able to come down & stay a weekend & we had a great time. One of the few hotels at the Delaware beach that allows one night stays during prime time summer months. The online booking is seamless and painless. I had spent the day at nearby Cape Henlopen beach and my room was still being held at 7:30PM when I checked in. Rooms are clean and the air conditioner works fine. One star is generous. We had a long evening attending a fundraising activity. We figured we would stay the night as we lived two hours away. Much to our dismay, we found an empty condom wrapper on the floor in our room. When I tried to get some resolve, I was blamed by the manager, Maggie, that my approach was all wrong. No one was at the deck when we checked out. I left a note with my phone number. No one contacted me. After I made several attempts to contact them, I finally got through. Only to be told there was nothing they could do because of how the situation was handled. The beds were uncomfortable and sleeping was nearly impossible not knowing just how clean the room really was. Never again!!! read more

Seems more up to date than many reviews here suggest. They do have an elevator now. A/c is still wall unit, but pretty new. Rooms and bathrooms seemed quite clean during off-season stay, as did bedding and towels. Nice pool and public areas. Great location. Not luxurious, but very comfortable for the area. read more

You should not go to Lewes if you are wanting a modern, sleek hotel...this is a beach hotel and is absolutely fine for the area it is in...quiet, quaint, friendly, convenient...great value for a family group read more

The rooms are very clean, and the staff is really friendly. The beds were a bit on the, uh, firm side, but not uncomfortable to me. It's conveniently located and on a moderately quiet street. There are no elevators or first floor rooms, so be prepared to haul your luggage. The wifi works great, and coffee is available 24/7. read more
