The parking isn't bad this time of year but I think very hard in the warm weather. Rooms are small and the very old elevator is hard to use. So not sure how handicapped set up it is. Located right on the main street in the historic downtown area, this upscale boutique hotel puts that notion of beachy hotels being a tad bit dumpy to bed. The rooms are small, but very nice with a modern bathroom, a flat screen and a very comfortable bed. The walls are thin, but what can you do. We took our first excursion after a grueling year of coping with the pandemic. We had been looking for a relaxing experience where we could decompress and Hotel Rodney did not disappoint. When we arrived in Lewes we had lunch at a nearby waterfront restaurant. The manager on duty at Hotel Rodney notified us by phone when our room was ready. Prior to booking the room, we knew that parking was limited at Hotel Rodney. Only a few spaces are reserved for guests, yet parking is reasonably priced and free parking is only a short stroll away from the hotel. Our luxury suite was surprisingly spacious and the courteous staff had reserved the lovely room to allow us to bring our cockapoo. Our room was clean and the staff was helpful. We inadvertently left our room's door open and the manager politely informed us. We were grateful for his professionalism. Free coffee is available in the lobby. Hotel Rodney is in the heart of the quaint town of Lewes. The area offers many dining choices, but you may want to schedule a reservation in advance for dinner even on weeknights; it gets busy at night. The Hotel Rodney offers a romantic atmosphere for couples and your dog-child will enjoy the air conditioning in the room. read more

Hotel Rodney has charm, great architecture, and who doesn't love to be downtown on a mainstreet that feels like it's Disneyland? Lewes is a charming historic town with old buildings and a very cute mainstreet. Hotel Rodney's location is at the heart of it, next to a historic church and cemetery. You can park for free. They need to add bike parking since many vacationers show up with bikes. The room is delightful. Beds have great linen. Bathrooms are well appointed and feel luxurious. The price at weekends in the summer are more like New York City. I feel that breakfast should be included as part of the price, but no other hotel in Lewes does this and they get away with it. The free wifi is nice. European hotel stays are so much better value. This would be an average hotel in Europe and include breakfast. So, for the U.S. this is a great find and I would stay here again! I'll look for groupons next time. read more

I really didn't want to give this hotel 3 stars because their customer service is excellent. My complaint is the rooms are very small for the price. Also the air conditioner is in an awful spot and I froze all night. Remote control broke for TV also. I told the person at desk about the ac so let's hope fixed. read more

Really love this hotel and this town. The Hotel is situated right at the end of main street, next to an episcopal church that dates back to 1671. Very picturesque and very nicely designed -- extremely comfortable beds. Some reviews mention the thin walls -- which is true. But we brought a fan which dulled everything out. I prefer Lewes over Rehobeth -- the town has more charm, character, and history. The Hotel Rodney stands up to all of this. Check out the great restaurants that are right outside the door -- Half full, Kindle, Cafe Azafran, Cake Bar, Striper Bites -- all are excellent, charming and reasonable. The hotel staff is very pleasant ant the lobby is a great place to hang out and read a book by the fire, play cards, or just hang out. Love this place read more

We had a groupon for a 2-night stay, checking in on a Sun-Thurs. It seemed like we had the entire hotel to ourselves since I never saw any other guests. We stayed in a great room, especially considering the price of the groupon, that was clean and had plenty of space. It's in a great area that I'm sure is even nice when there are actually shops open and people there. This town is not the place to come during off-season unless you don't mind sitting around. I didn't mind sitting around the hotel room all day, though! There is also a nice bar downstairs in the lobby...a bit pricey, but nice and classy. read more

Lovely, charming hotel in a great location in the heart of downtown Lewes! It's an old building (thin walls, so we could hear our neighbors next door and other guests in the hallways) but is beautifully updated with modern furnishing and doesn't have that kitschy beach vibe. We stayed in a pretty tiny room, and paid a decent amount, but it was a weekend in the summer for a last minute trip, so I'm not sure we could have made out better. I will make this short and sweet..... Great place. We needed to get away for a couple of days after the pressure of rebuilding our house after Sandy stopped for a visit. The hotel is Charming, did I say Charming. We went for St Patrick's day.. 6 miles to Rehoboth Beach. A very cool town, Key West want to be... doing a OK job of it. Fun place with nice beaches. Lewes it self is a nice little town with some nice restaurants... The bar and restaurant in the hotel is very good. A friend who lived in the area recommended this hotel to us. It's a bit aways from busy Rehoboth, which I liked but my husband didn't so much. Lewes the town is real cute and small. Got lots of local shops and whatnot. The hotel itself looks great, clearly recently renovated. European style as the manager says. It is small but that doesn't bother me. We don't need much room. The room is nice - lovely headboard, comfortable mattress and sheets, charming view (we got the corner room which gets great light in the morning and afternoon). The shower was nice. No bath which was weird for me. The staff was so nice and helpful. Very friendly. The lobby is gorgeous. The recommended breakfast spot is a block away with a limited menu which we as vegetarians weren't so crazy about. We'd stay here again if we visit Lewes. read more

My visit to Lewes was spur-of-the-moment for one night. The Manager, Cathy,quickly handled my check-in so that I could settle in and enjoy the day. I enjoyed a bright, spotlessly clean, corner room.I love the feel of this charming hotel and appreciated the convenience of the Rose & Crown in-house restaurant. It is walking distance to everything. The next morning I asked Britney, at the reception desk, to allow me to see a suite in anticipation of my next visit. She quickly accommodated my request. Can't say enough about their hospitality. I booked a "Corner Deluxe" room using the "Long Weekend Package". I talked to Brittany who was extremely helpful, answering all of my questions. As it turned out, her recommendations were spot on. I planned this as a mystery getaway weekend for my wife's birthday and she was extremely pleased. Our room was extremely clean, tastefully decorated, and had a great view of the main street out front and out the side of the church next door. The lobby is inviting with warmth from a gas fireplace. The hotel adjoins the Rose & Crown restaurant, so you can hear the soft sounds of people enjoying food and drink. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. You can take the elevator or the stairwell to your room. Even though the sounds from the lobby are very soft, In the evenings, the staff close the stairwell doors to keep the hallways and rooms as quiet as possible. This is an old hotel that has been remodeled and looks great. Did the wood floors squeak? Yeah, a little. Could I hear the people upstairs? Yeah, just barely. Would I stay here again? Yes, in a heartbeat. We loved it. So cozy and comfortable and the seaside town of Lewes is delightful. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

This is more of a small hotel rather than a B&B or Inn. My expectations of a B&B or Inn are a bit higher than a hotel and Hotel Rodney did not provide that "little bit more". The PROS: The hotel was nicely decorated. Very trendy and modern. The lobby is inviting (could have used some music though), with friendly staff. We stayed in the Master Suite room which was large and nicely decorated. There was a sofa and large leather ottoman that doubled as a low table in front of the sofa. The shower was great. It was huge! You could have a party in the shower if you wanted to! There are three large, flat shower heads - one on each end, and one directly overhead in the middle. The toilet, shower, and sink/vanity are all in their own separate room which is nice. The room was nice and sunny with four windows which overlooked the main street. There are candles in the room which they actually leave matches nearby so you can light the candles if you want (we did). There is a coffeemaker in the room and a fridge in the closet. The CONS: There were no extras, like free bottled water, or snacks in the lobby. The king-size bed was not great, I felt like I was rolling toward the middle. The pillows were AWFUL!!!! It was like laying my head on a cinder block. The day we left I was examining the pillow to see why it was so rock hard, and found that the pillows, which I thought were regular sized, were actually king-sized pillows that they had jammed into one end of a king-sized pillowcase and tucked the end of the pillowcase inward to make them into regular sized pillow blocks. (why would they do that?) The second awful thing was the not-so-hot shower water. The shower was so awesome that I sorta overlooked the fact that we couldn't take a really hot shower. We had the shower turned all the way to the hottest setting but it was still only slightly-hotter than warm. DO NOT USE THE SHAMPOO unless you want to smell like very bad old-lady perfume (sorry to all the old ladies I just insulted). I had a mild asthma attack from the hideous perfumy stench of that shampoo. I had to go buy some shampoo to re-wash my hair but two days later I am still smelling that terrible perfume in my hair. The next negative thing is that the room attendant cleaned the room but did not replenish our coffee and coffee mug even though they took the dirty coffee mug from the room. Last thing...there is no WIFI in the room, so don't expect to use your computer in the room. I would say that none of these CONS are a show-stopper, but I would probably try staying somewhere else before I stayed here again. read more

Recently stayed here for our 4th time. Every time we've stayed we have been extremely please. Location, staff, rooms, etc - always a great experience. What a great experience we had at this neighborhood hotel. The staff are super friendly and accommodating to all your needs. The Rodney is centrally located so park your car and you don't need to get back in it until you leave. We stayed in a suite for the extra room and it was worth it. Housekeeping does a great job keeping this hotel spotless. The gym located on the lower level is small but has quality equipment. The building is on the National Historic Places Registry and has great charm. read more

We came in from a whole day out at Cape Henlopen and found the room a mess--complete with unmade bed and wet towels. Otherwise, the room was nicely appointed, but very cramped. it's a stretch to give this place a 4 star rating, but i will give it a full 4 stars due solely for it's ole time charm and general niceness of the room in which we stayed during our little 'mini'cation to the mini beach town of lewes (pronounced louis) delaware. the hotel itself is situated right in the center of lewes on second street which i can best describe as a miniature version of annapolis, md. the downtown section of lewes is about 4 blocks in radius and has a bunch of tightly packed, historic buildings and victorian homes. it is a quiet place that tends to attract retirees, small families, and blue bloods looking to get away from dc, philly, and baltimore for a weekend or more. with that being said, the hotel rodney is an old hotel and one should not have the modern expectations when booking a room here. for example, there is no true elevator. there is an old 'car' that you ring up and wait.... and wait to come. it is an old iron cage elevator that is activated with the metal door is opened and closed, but with some modern updating with the stainless steel doors and electronic calling system. even with the old and the new, you can't fit more than 3 people inside the elevator. (the slight hint is - get used to the stairs). speaking of stairs, even though we stayed on the third floor our room number was in the 200's, as all the rooms are, with the same situation for the floor below - now that's very old school. in spite of the ole world quaintness, our room, which was a suite - one king bed and a pull out sofa, was pretty darn nice. it wasn't huge, but sufficient and efficient at the same time with a lot of money spent on recently updating and revamping the entire hotel being more than evident. the shower was huge - a full room unto itself with 3 separate shower heads and a glass wall for a shower curtain. it is the kind of shower you really want for a honeymoon or get away weekend, cause it is perfect from some serious poundcaking. i immediately wished there was a babysitter around, but oh well...... onto the ass kicking ac until that hung on the wall like a 2 x 2 piece of art. it was a LG art cool unit that was more quiet than a purring kitten and kept the room as cold as we wanted it to get. that thing could have made our suite into a meat packing freezer if we desired. i have no idea what these things cost, but i want a bunch of them. i am not 100% on this, but apparently they are a dehumidifier, air purifier, and heater as well as an ac unit. i'd recommend booking a room here just for the sake of checking these units out. they are fascinating. as for the downsides of the hotel. parking, or lack there of. there are a few spots available right behind the hotel and if they are taken up then you have to find a spot in the public parking lot, which is the next lot over and if there aren't spots in there that are free, then you have to wait until the bank next door to the hotel closes, then you can park in that lot. something to be prepared for when driving into town for the first time. apparently, no one in the hotel is very concerned about parking, because you don't need to put anything in your car window that signifies that you are indeed staying at the hotel rodney. just park.... wherever. that is another problem with the hotel. the staff were never rude, but there were times when they weren't around. there is no formal front desk when you enter the lobby. just a big desk with some ugly elephant chairs in front of it and little bell with a sign that says 'ring for service' and sometimes, someone would actually come out from the adjoining room to help you. i'm all for small town insouciance, but come on, at least you could pretend that gave 2 plops about your job. now that last bit of info about this hotel worth noting and is what probably pushed my rating into the 4 star score was the little cafe/restaurant that adjoined the hotel besseme. i'm not going to comment about the over priced food, or the lame local blues/folk guitar players that played every odd night, but they had a great beer selection at great beer prices; anchor steam, sierra nevada, and a number of dogfishes all for $4 bucks a pop. needless to say i spent a lot of time there. i think some of my random talk postings demonstrate that fact. read more

This hotel like many others in the same area seem to take advantage of potential guests by demanding a two night or three night minimum per stay even during the off season. This small inn gets two stars from me because their on line reservation site is pathetic. They request your credit card number just to check on line if they have vacancies, really a questionable practice and not professional. Maybe some people are impressed with this place but I was not. I will continue to stay at the Hyatt Place for less money and a new clean room with friendly employees and no 2 or 3 night minimum required. read more

We stayed at the Savannah Inn for only one night as they only had the space for one night . That experience was wonderful. We felt we were lucky to get a room at the Hotel Rodney for the second night on a busy weekend. We were grateful the hotel was smack dab in the middle of this wonderful, quaint town but that kind of ends our gratitude there. The lift (old elevator, that had historical charm I must say) did not work all the time because not all people knew to close the accordian door all the time so it would stay on a floor.....it has ALOT of steps otherwise to each floor so if you have any kind of health issues beware. The room was small and simple. Not worthy of the fairly high price tag. You can get ice . No frig. Has a coffee pot. No room service if that is something you would like however, must say our experience with the staff was a pleasant one if you need anything. We did not like that the bar restaurant which looks like it is IN the hotel, you can only pay through them , not charge to your room. The place although updated at some point, does not have a spotless feel. Needs staff to keep it up. Was given a "voucher" for $3 for morning breakfasts at a restaurant down the street. Opened at 8am . You are out of luck if you want a early day. We went over to Nectar which opens at 7a.m and got a fabulous breakfast before 8a.m. and awesome atmosphere. Would not go back again to Hotel Rodney. Would only suggest if someone does not have a car and came over on the ferry by foot perhaps and if they could not get in anywhere else. read more

Stayed 2 nights (Saturday and Sunday). We had a 2nd floor room that looked out at the church next door, and was right next to the elevator (so could hear it every time someone used it). Overall had a pleasant stay and loved the location of the hotel and the interior space. I am a heavy sleeper, but I did wake up once due to the noise from the upstairs room (very creaky floors). We did notice that the walls between rooms were also not very sound proof since we could hear our neighbors. I could see how this could bother someone, but I am pretty low key about these things in such an old building. read more
