The room was ready on time and exactly what we booked. The room was clean and exactly as pictured in the photos. We booked the ocean front room so that we could sleep to the sound of the waves and watch the sunrise from bed. The beds were super comfortable and I slept like a baby. The Nespresso machine in the room was fantastic. They also had coffee in the lobby and a full complementary breakfast. The lobby and deck areas are great places to hang out. They offer free beach chairs to borrow for the beach. We also enjoyed the lounge chairs by the pool. We enjoyed the music in the outside areas. They have happy hour in the lobby at 5pm with draft beer and hot hors d'oeuvres. Don't forget to stop back at 8pm for warm cookies. Once we parked the car, we never moved it again. This hotel is a short walking distance from the Dewey Brewing Company, Starboard, and other restaurants. We saw dolphins from our balcony and I found sea glass on the beach right in front of the hotel. Insider tips: They do not have an elevator. Book a dune view room on the first floor with an expanded private deck if you cannot walk up steps. Leave the kids at home - they don't have sofa beds or roll-a-way beds.

From the pool, to the proximity to the beach, we had access to everything we wanted for our trip. The staff, including Tamikea, were so helpful and inviting. On Friday's if you are over 21 they had complimentary Orange crushes. Not sure if this is every Friday or if it was just for a special event that was going in at the hotel when we stayed here. The staff here are friendly and helpful. The hotel lobby is spacious and clean. They have a big sitting area with tables and chairs and tvs. This is where people eat meals. If you are a guest you get a free breakfast. The breakfast is nothing special by the way. There were eggs, sausages, cereal, bagels and oatmeal and a few other things. I participated in the free breakfast for my first day there and I was not impressed at all. It was the same when I stayed at another Hyatt place in another state. The eggs were pretty bad and the plates, bowls and silverware I first picked up were all dirty. I had to go through 2-3 to finally not get a dirty one. There is a pool and a gym in this hotel which is great. I did not go swimming while staying here but saw the pool area. I did not get to see the gym though. The room as you can see from pics are spacious and have a little living room like area with a couch. And a little wall that kind of separates it. This hotel is located right in Dewey and is very walkable to the great bar/ restaurant scene. I would stay here again if need be.

As we live in Ocean City, NJ and frequent the Hyatt Dewey quite often to visit family and friends, it truly feels like home to us when we are there. We will be there again on March 12 and will continue to frequent throughout the summer months, as we basically travel there throughout the year. The hotel has such a welcoming and warm feeling, and you never feel overwhelmed like some larger hotels can make you feel. It has a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere that makes every visit enjoyable. Every time we return, they are always smiling and genuinely happy to welcome us back. It immediately sets the tone for a great stay and makes us feel truly valued as guests. Their warmth, professionalism, and positive energy truly make a difference. They are always helpful, attentive, and eager to assist with anything we may need. They consistently help make sure we are comfortable, often helping us with our favorite rooms and making every visit seamless and enjoyable. It is clear they take great pride in what they do and in making guests feel welcomed and appreciated. The entire front desk team, both men and women, creates such a warm and inviting atmosphere. And as we all know, guests can sometimes be a little challenging, but they always handle everything with patience, grace, and a smile, ready to help in any way they can. You would never even know if they were having a difficult day themselves, because their kindness and professionalism never waver. We also experienced something that truly showed the level of care and professionalism of the staff. A piece of jewelry was misplaced that had been given to my dear friend by her father before he passed away, so it holds tremendous sentimental value. The manager personally took the time to help search for it, moving furniture and looking everywhere possible to try to help us find it. To us, that is truly going above and beyond the call of duty, and it meant so much that he cared enough to help in that way. Thank you, Lindsay and Mia, and the entire front desk team, for your exceptional hospitality, professionalism, and the kindness that greets us each time we arrive. You truly make every stay feel special and appreciated. Dawn Ranieri and John Ziemba

Surf Shanty Motel - Super clean and retro cool!

Absolutely amazing! We stopped in Dewey Beach for a couple nights on our way down the east coast…read more We choose the Surf Shanty because of its location to beach (less than a 3 minute walk) and it's very chic retro (but not cheesy) style. Its designer also deserves 5 stars! But that's not what will bring us back. What will bring us back, is Andre and his honesty, his hardworking/attention to cleanliness, and most importantly his kindness. Andre and his staff go above and beyond for their guests. From finding/shipping a lost ring (for another quest) to taking pride in the appearance of the motel, from sharing great ideas for food/drink/etc. He cares!!! He made our stay in the comfy beds, cool air conditioning, and hot shower unit that we had even that much better. You will love your stay at the Surf Shanty and you will remember Andre! A little difficult to sleep when you can hear every little thing.

There are so many seating options in the lobby that look as though they came out of a beach resort magazine. The hotel posts a daily board of local restaurant specials, and the hotel itself offers plenty of great extras, like wine and cheese every day from 5:00-6:00, and cookies and milk every evening at 8:00 in the lobby. Complimentary lobby coffee is available 24/7, so there are no coffee makers in the rooms. There's also a big game room with dozens of board games. They have an indoor pool and sauna, and an outdoor hot tub. Our hotel room was quite large, with a huge flatscreen TV, a work desk, a king-sized bed, a sofa, and a coffee table. The in-room Wi-Fi and the satellite TV worked great. The bath was on the smaller size, but it looked brand new. The shower had plenty of hot water and the only nitpick was maybe the pressure from the rainfall style shower head could have been a teense more forceful. We had a nice private balcony overlooking the street and their street level firepit and seating area. The overall location is great, just a very short walk to the boardwalk and beach and within hundreds of stores and restaurants. The daily breakfast was stellar -a bounty of pre-made omelets, Sausages, Baked pears, Cereals, Oatmeal (with mix- ins like nuts, chocolate, granola, seeds, coconut), Pastries, whole and cut fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, hash browns, and ham slices. Our off-season rate was a little over $100 a night, quite a good deal for the hotel's luxury and services. Guest service was excellent at every encounter we had.

Contacted the manager who said they have having electrical issues. The clothes drawer in the room was old and rusty and we couldn't open it. The whole "hotel" is actually an old motel that has been renovated to look modern but it's a scam. Check the square footage before you rent. Paid $250 a night for a tiny motel room pretty much. Breakfast? Hardly anything. The coffee machine was new but it took forever to make a cup of coffee. I can't imagine if there was a line of people waiting. I never felt so scammed and fooled in my life. Never again.
