First, the parking and registration is not so easy. If you're carrying luggage, be prepared to wheel it down a windy path toward a the reception door. When we were asked for a travel voucher, to which we presented the Orbitz reservation number; however this was not reflected in any reservation for The Latch Inn. They were also booked with no availability, so we had to find other lodging accommodations. We called to ask for an earlier check in since the Orbitz reservation indicated check in only from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. But at 3:15pm there was no answer at The Latch Inn, so we left a message. At 6:10pm a representative from The Latch Inn called us to ask what the message was because she could not find our reservation. Bad experience with Orbitz and with this situation. I am open to management response.

While the food was very good, the service was painfully slow - plan for in excess of one hour for breakfast, even if there are only 3-4 other tables. When I think of an Inn, I anticipate a caretaker with a lot of knowledge of the area. The two men working had a huge language barrier thus we stuck with the basic communication. And yes, you will hear your immediate neighbors very clearly.

When I requested a refund, the property said that the manager would be in tomorrow to discuss it. Two days later the manager called me and said the following. "You will not be getting a refund in this universe, and we are I hear you are looking for a refund, and this will NOT happen in this lifetime!" then they hung up. They claimed the room was unrentable after we had left the property, see the attached "evidence" of the mess we left! We had some food when we checked in, used the bathroom, and left as soon as we saw the BED BUGS! My only regret is not taking photos of the bedbugs. ZERO STARS, and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Vanessa, a professional cook and baker, made every meal with her loving care. I'm usually not a breakfast fan, but the homemade apple strudel, granola, scones, and omelets were too much to resist. If you want to feel like you're staying with friends while in Victoria, this is the place to go. Quaint decor, and great hospitality are what you'll find here. We loved their furry/feathered friends, Butler, their cat and two Moroccan Cockatoos, Chucky and Casper! Vanessa and Dean were great about being there when we needed them for info about activities or directions, and also great about not jeopardizing our privacy. We stayed in the lovely Lavender Room for 4 wonderful nights. We really enjoyed having the garden patio at our disposal since the nights were worth sitting out in. We lit some tea lights, and enjoyed some cold beverages by starlight. It is an older house, so there was no A/C and the room could get hot and stuffy during the day, but with the door or window cracked open a bit, and a small fan running, we always got a cool enough ocean breeze at night to keep us happy. There was a TV in the room with cable and a built in DVD player on the side. Down in the entrance in the Harry Potter computer nook we found the internet provided was fast and dependable. Since we are young and wild and had no idea when we would be coming or going at night we were relieved to find that you have your own key code so it wasn't an issue and we didn't disturb the hosts or any other guests. The B&B is within walking distance to many shops, Fisherman's Wharf, and downtown Victoria. Vanessa was an absolute doll and even packed a lunch for us since we had to catch our departing ferry at 6AM and would miss her phenomenal breakfast!! Another fun feature of the bed and breakfast is that they even have a couple friendly spirits in residence. I didn't experience them myself, but I love hearing ghost tales about old buildings. A thousand kudos to this lovely B&B! Our stay was worth every cent and more!

Vanessa and Dale are amazing hosts and run the best B&B I have ever been to. The room was clean, quite, and beautiful, the bed was amazingly comfortable, and having a small TV with cable was a nice feature usually lacking in B&B's. Wireless Internet worked perfectly and was very handy. They also had a guest computer in the main area available for use 24/7. The hotel is in a great location if you don't mind a short (8 min) walk to the inner harbor. Parking was no problem, and it is in a VERY safe neighborhood, which was nice to walk in at any time of the day. Vanessa is an AMAZING chef, her breakfasts were perfectly prepared and seasoned, pray that you get a day where she is making Eggs Benedict, which was some of the best I have ever had. The omelets were incredible, and the home-made granola was a real treat! Have Vanessa hand draw you a map of a fun drive! We went to Sooke, which was not much of a town, but had a nice little beach on a man made breaker that was a good little get-away from the city. I loved the tall ceiling, it feels almost like a house. There is ample parking. It's really nice as there's a lot of parking spots in the outdoor lot so you don't need to check in to the hotel first before being able to access the parking lot like quite a few neighboring hotels. There is also an underground parking lot if a more secure spot is desired. The room itself was nice. The carpetting made it feel older than other modern hotels but it was clean. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were great as well. Shampoo/conditioner all-in-one was available but not body wash. Small bar soaps are also available. Despite feeling a bit old, the room was comfortable. Sound proofing is mediocre, other guests and birds outside can be heard quite easily. Bring ear plugs to sleep well. The hotel has complimentary breakfast served at 7am. I had to leave as it was opening but there seemed to be quite a selection of items at a quick glance.

For my trip to Victoria BC, my family of four booked a room here with two double beds. The booking comes with free breakfast and $10 daily parking to use for their parking lot and garage. Both check-in and check-out was fast and prompt, and the hotel itself is a drivable and even walkable distance to many notable places like Fisherman's Wharf, Pendray Tea House, the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, and downtown Victoria itself. As an added bonus, the Tour de Victoria also takes place near the streets leading to this hotel if you catch it at the right time. Parking is limited even at the hotel since spaces are pretty tight especially down in the garage area where some spaces are dangerously close to poles. This area ended up being the most convenient for us to use given how rainy one of the days was. When there's food, I also gotta review it though it isn't as big of a factor here compared to everything else. Breakfast here is buffet style, where you can grab anything from eggs and bacon, cereal, pastries, self-made waffles and drinks. They served two kinds of breakfast potatoes and those ended up being my favorites because of how full you can get off of them and to pace my hunger for certain situations like late waking-up times. Their dining hall is located near the lobby, and it also houses a small recreational room with a small shelf full of board and card games, and some sofas to relax at along with guest-only restrooms to utilize. As for the hotel rooms, they're relatively spacious and clean, while the bathrooms are brightly lit but a little cramped without much sink counter space for a lot of our stuff. We asked the front desk for some extra blankets, and they came up after a little bit with them, about 15 minutes. There is an AC unit in our room, though it took a really long time - even at its coldest setting - to make our place appropriately chilly for a good night's sleep. Compared to the other hotels in the surrounding area, this doesn't stand out in any way, but the service and quality more than make up for it, and we had an easier time navigating around the city knowing we could come here afterwards and rest. It was very old, not well maintained and above all not cleaned well. The sheets were old and had several hair as if they weren't washed from previous stay. What bothered me further is that the host Jeff was adamant about it and just won't listen to our request. It was a horrible experience and I wish I could have avoided this place as it simply ruined our experience.

For me, it's a 5-star, and this is why: -Charm. This hotel is 115 years old and is built in the quintessential Edwardian architecture of the day. Think Sherlock Holmes movie settings and you get the idea. Lots of woodwork, deep jewel-hued carpets in plum or green, leaded stained glass windows on the stair landings. Very VIctorianesque but less ornate. You get the idea. -Location. This hotel is on Government Street (Victoria's "main drag"), only 4 blocks from the Parliament Buildings, in a residential alcove, a few blocks from Beacon Hill Park. It's a 6-minute walk down Government Street to the inner harbor and the Empress. Literally. -Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. As soon as you enter the hotel to check in, you are met by the NICEST European man who greets you and helps you check in and get acclimated to the hotel and area. Everyone I encountered who worked here was genuinely friendly and wanting to help, in any way they could. The staff here honestly was a throw-back to some prior era, in some "old world" town. -Cleanliness. The hotel and my room was super clean. Unlike other places, I didn't feel I needed to sanitize any areas, or inspect the bed linens with a blue light. And the bathroom was well-stocked too, and all fixtures worked great. (I was a bit skeptical about the tiny old shower, but it surprisingly had great water pressure and got hot). -Price. I did a lot of research before booking this hotel. (I was in town for a wedding and everyone was staying at hotels in the inner harbor proper). This hotel cost WAY less than any other place in the immediate vicinity. By a LOT. And this hotel has free on-site parking, too. I'm not saying this place is "cheap", but it costs 50-75% less than any others in the area. -On-site restaurant and pub. I didn't go to these, so I can't speak to how good they might be or how pricey, but it was good to know they were here, in case I wanted to grab a meal or drink close by. As other reviewers noted, there are some real trade-offs when staying at a historic, older hotel: no elevators, no AC, tiny bathrooms, my room was tiny too, no modern outlets with charging stations, no built-in hairdryers (you need to ask for one at the front desk), no room safes, minimal storage for clothes. Did I mention stairs? There's even stairs you need to walk up to enter the hotel. (Good to know if you have a lot of heavy luggage). If you have mobility issues, please take this into account. For me, this place checked off all the major boxes, and I would definitely stay here again.
