Tony's Steak and Seafood - Fried Camembert. Extremely small. Extraordinarily basic. Not worth it.

It's been 60+ years for Tony's. The food is average but dependable. Steaks and seafood are prepared competently, portions are generous, and everything tastes exactly how you expect. Nothing stands out, it's familiar comfort more than destination dining. I wish they used fresh calamari instead of the rings. The friendly, old-school service does a lot of the heavy lifting here. The staff are warm and attentive, which helps elevate what would otherwise be a very middle-of-the-road meal. I watched them work together like a Olympic team. GREAT! A cultural icon with nostalgia on its side, worth a visit if you like classic American/Australian -style steakhouses, but not a place you go for wow factor. You will get good fires and a steak.

A vintage steakhouse with the dark moody vibe that gives the feeling it's been here for decades,…read morewithout any upgrades. The steak is good and the servers are kind. But the food is underwhelming and our server got our orders incorrect, despite repeating it back to us. She also brought us a drink that we did not order and instead of simply taking it back, she tried to push it onto us claiming that we indeed ordered it. Odd experience. For table appetizers we tried the fried calamari and camembert. It was disappointing to see the camembert was very small and served with basic crackers, not complimentary to the cheese at all. The calamari was good but a little oily. Each person in our party of 4 ordered different steaks, the steak is why you come to Tony's - all were cooked to our preference. I requested double veggies with my filet, since 2 sides come with each entree. But my veggies were the exact size of everyone else's at my table. When I questioned it, I was told that this is what I would get. Hmmm, okay. While I see the appeal for the pricing and the steak, Tony's would not be my first choice for a steakhouse in this area.

I was persuaded into getting a big lunch today. And Faro was right next to the only parking space…read moreavailable on the whole street. So it made perfect sense when the sky was turning dark and started to drizzle. The place was booming at 1pm, had about 20 odd people inside. I had a look around, they were all Koreans. Which means the place is quite popular amongst their own. Which is a good sign to me about the quality of the restaurant. I mean you hardly see any Chinese people eating at your local Chinese takeaways, if any? Right? The menu brought back some memories about high school. It's basically two pieces of printed A4 glued to the inside of a Manila folder. The whole left side is the drinks menu, the right side is the meat menu. I thought this Faro is gonna be like the other Faros, which served all kinds of Korean delicacies. And you'd be wrong if you think that too. This Faro is actually a steak house. I was very surprised. Pleasantly surprised. I know that the Koreans love their beef, they have 120 cuts of meat off a cattle. all the major steak types that we love in nz is listed on the menu. And Faro states their beef is aged 28 days. So I had high hopes even tho I didn't feel like a steak. I asked for the teriyaki pork Katsu, and after much debate my mate went for the 400g T bone. Ok, now comes the good part. The Katsu is priced at 15 dollars. The t-bone is priced at $28. I mean, the prices seems pretty normal for a steak house. Right? But... Lol. The price also includes the full all you can eat salad bar. I was speechless, literally. And when my Katsu arrived on the table, I was basically shocked. The portion is so generous compare to the 15 dollar price tag. And the meat is not wafer thin. It's real nice and thick and juicy. And the sweet teriyaki sauce is just perfect for the pork. My mate asked for a med rare steak. And it arrived med rare, I wasn't very impressed with his choice of garlic sauce for the steak tho. Oh well, each to their own. The Faro's version of garlic sauce did intrigue me a bit. It's a soy sauce based sauce. I didn't get to taste it, but my mate said it tasted fantastic. I don't know how he could chow down a whole t-bone, two plates of salad, and still reach across the table to eat most of my kumara fries and some of my Katsu. Lol. Well, this is a place that really did surprise me. The beef is tender and nice. The salad is free and all you can eat. The place is warm and cozy. Oh yea, I forgot that the service is very very friendly. And a huge lunch for two plus alcohol only costed 61 bucks in total. So Faro. Please keep up the good work.

I got the Aged Specialty Sirloin $44. It was cooked to my liking on the inside but medium/medium rare but no crust on the outside. Seasoned fare, nothing special. I couldn't believe the gristle wasn't trimmed before cooking. Maybe so the size and weight would look bigger. I have had much better at Chili's. I haven't had a good steak since I moved to Australia from the US, and others have said the same. Their cuts seem to be full of gristle, even all the Spencer Steaks (Ribeyes). I expected on New York, but not on ribeyes or sirloins. I told them my review and they were very apologetic. They called the gristle fat, I like fat, you can eat fat. The offered a Ribeye The Ribeye came medium rare. I instantly could smell teriyaki. It was tender and flavorful no gristle. I do wish it did not have the flavor teriyaki though.
