I went to Bushman's Grill for Valentines Dinner with my boyfriend. It was my idea to go there for dinner as a friend of mine had sung praises of this restaurant. I called the restaurant around 7pm wanting to book a table for two for 8pm, unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked. The manager promised to give me a call as soon as someone else canceled and she stayed true to her word. Upon my arrival I was greeted by an African thatched roof in a restaurant with shields and dimmed lighting, it felt just like home. My boyfriend and I stood at the front of the restaurant excepting serving but we did not receive that until we walked up to the counter and told them we had a reservation. This is because the counter is right at the front of the restaurant, like right at the entrance. This results in waitresses assuming that everyone standing by the door is paying. The layout of the restaurant would be much better if the counter was elsewhere. I was a tad annoyed by the delay in service but the ribs I ordered and my bottle of Savannah dry helped me forget all about it. The ribs were delicious and were marinated in goodness a bit too much goodness but I'm not complaining. The chips were served in a stand separating them from the ribs, meaning there was more room on my plate for ribs. After visiting another African restaurant, I knew that even so could small portions weren't really small and boy was I correct. I remember asking the waiter if the plate was mine as I had ordered the smallest portion. She just smiled and said yes that it the smallest portion. It left me wondering what the biggest portion was! I recommend Bushman's Grill for fellow rib and meat lovers! The portions will definitely satisfy your craving.

    Bye bye onion ring :D

This place is pretty much all about wholesome food, so more equipped to feed the average joe than a meek vegetarian like me. The guys loved it here, as expected. The main items on the menu were things like steak, ribs burgers and that sort of thing. Definitely not for me. But they did do pizza too so its not like there was nothing. They do A la carte too and brunch. But I still see it as more of a meat fest and less of a sunday brunch type of place! I wont go back here, purely because It isn't for my liking seeing all that meat around. But that isn't too say its not a neat place. Some people clearly love it. But not for me.

This is sad, because they had the most delectable, African menu. Fear not, you can still eat the full menu at their Albany branch! Their decor is nice, but not over-the-top, so if you're not accustomed to African style, you'll still enjoy a taste of something different. The only thing that was slightly annoying was a musician yodelling country music for half the night. I guess you get that at bars, but it would've been nicer if he did a rain dance or had an African choir clicking away in the background. I wouldn't hesitate to use this place for a special event in the future, as they have the best priced menus and great service. If you're just looking for a drink and a light snack, they are great for that too.

So it made perfect sense when the sky was turning dark and started to drizzle. The place was booming at 1pm, had about 20 odd people inside. I had a look around, they were all Koreans. Which means the place is quite popular amongst their own. Which is a good sign to me about the quality of the restaurant. I mean you hardly see any Chinese people eating at your local Chinese takeaways, if any? Right? The menu brought back some memories about high school. It's basically two pieces of printed A4 glued to the inside of a Manila folder. The whole left side is the drinks menu, the right side is the meat menu. I thought this Faro is gonna be like the other Faros, which served all kinds of Korean delicacies. And you'd be wrong if you think that too. This Faro is actually a steak house. I was very surprised. Pleasantly surprised. I know that the Koreans love their beef, they have 120 cuts of meat off a cattle. all the major steak types that we love in nz is listed on the menu. And Faro states their beef is aged 28 days. So I had high hopes even tho I didn't feel like a steak. I asked for the teriyaki pork Katsu, and after much debate my mate went for the 400g T bone. Ok, now comes the good part. The Katsu is priced at 15 dollars. The t-bone is priced at $28. I mean, the prices seems pretty normal for a steak house. Right? But... Lol. The price also includes the full all you can eat salad bar. I was speechless, literally. And when my Katsu arrived on the table, I was basically shocked. The portion is so generous compare to the 15 dollar price tag. And the meat is not wafer thin. It's real nice and thick and juicy. And the sweet teriyaki sauce is just perfect for the pork. My mate asked for a med rare steak. And it arrived med rare, I wasn't very impressed with his choice of garlic sauce for the steak tho. Oh well, each to their own. The Faro's version of garlic sauce did intrigue me a bit. It's a soy sauce based sauce. I didn't get to taste it, but my mate said it tasted fantastic. I don't know how he could chow down a whole t-bone, two plates of salad, and still reach across the table to eat most of my kumara fries and some of my Katsu. Lol. Well, this is a place that really did surprise me. The beef is tender and nice. The salad is free and all you can eat. The place is warm and cozy. Oh yea, I forgot that the service is very very friendly. And a huge lunch for two plus alcohol only costed 61 bucks in total. So Faro. Please keep up the good work.

It's been 60+ years for Tony's. The food is average but dependable. Steaks and seafood are prepared competently, portions are generous, and everything tastes exactly how you expect. Nothing stands out, it's familiar comfort more than destination dining. I wish they used fresh calamari instead of the rings. The friendly, old-school service does a lot of the heavy lifting here. The staff are warm and attentive, which helps elevate what would otherwise be a very middle-of-the-road meal. I watched them work together like a Olympic team. GREAT! A cultural icon with nostalgia on its side, worth a visit if you like classic American/Australian -style steakhouses, but not a place you go for wow factor. You will get good fires and a steak.

But the food is underwhelming and our server got our orders incorrect, despite repeating it back to us. She also brought us a drink that we did not order and instead of simply taking it back, she tried to push it onto us claiming that we indeed ordered it. Odd experience. For table appetizers we tried the fried calamari and camembert. It was disappointing to see the camembert was very small and served with basic crackers, not complimentary to the cheese at all. The calamari was good but a little oily. Each person in our party of 4 ordered different steaks, the steak is why you come to Tony's - all were cooked to our preference. I requested double veggies with my filet, since 2 sides come with each entree. But my veggies were the exact size of everyone else's at my table. When I questioned it, I was told that this is what I would get. Hmmm, okay. While I see the appeal for the pricing and the steak, Tony's would not be my first choice for a steakhouse in this area.
