I brought 3 of my friends to Bangkok Restaurant because my first experience I had at this restaurant was pretty good. This visit was the complete opposite.
We all ordered the Chef Special because I recommended the Pad Krapow with minced chicken, which was offered with this option. The Chef Special also came with an appetizer of choice and the dessert was the daily dessert.
We asked the server if the dessert was mango with sticky rice and he replied yes, so we all decided to go ahead with the Chef Special because it seemed like a okay deal even though the price was high.
After we placed the order, the server came back and said there was no choice for the appetizer after it had came out. My friends and I were conversing so we didn't really mind and went ahead and ate it. The main course came out and instead of minced chicken as we all ordered, it was regular chicken.
If you're a true Thai food lover as I am, you know that certain Thai dishes just tasted better when the protein is processed a certain way. Pad Krapow has the best flavor with minced chicken. I brought it to the servers attention and he replied this is minced chicken. I said "no, this is regular chicken. Minced chicken is ground chicken and this is not ground chicken." All he said was "oh, sorry." And walked away.
Again, instead of wasting food and getting the server in trouble, I convinced my friends to just go ahead and eat what was served. A different server came to our table when we were done eating and asks us if we were ready for our ice cream. We all replied "Ice cream? The server told us the dessert was mango with sticky rice." She replied "The Chef Special dessert is the daily dessert and the daily dessert today is vanilla ice cream." So immediately we were all finally fed up and asked for the manager.
The manager, which is the restaurant owner, comes to the table and we tell him about the dessert. He replies "we do not have mango with sticky rice because mango is out of season." So I told him "that's not the point, your server specifically told us it was mango with sticky rice and that was ultimately the deciding factor of why all 4 of us ordered the Chef Special." I continued to explain to him about all the other discrepancies throughout our dinner and all he said was why didn't you send the food back? I told him I informed the server of the error and he did not give us the option so instead of making a scene and wasting food we went ahead and ate it. So he replied "well you ate all the food so what do you want me to do?" I just laughed and requested the check so we could leave this poorly managed establishment.
When the check came, there was an additional charge of almost $20 that was "accidentally" added to our tab. Once the owner finally realized that his server obviously made mistakes, he decided to offer us a $10 discount on our $200 bill for not eating their non-traditional Thai dessert, which was vanilla ice cream.
What a joke. I do not recommend this restaurant!
There are more authentic Thai restaurants nearby that are much better priced such as Grasshopper Thai, which is around the corner on Albert Street and has 4 1/2 out of 5 stars! read more
