The staff are always friendly, onto it and quick as they can be. I've been here numerous times, and rarely had to wait overly long for food, even on a busy Saturday night. Warning: The food portions are actually the size of Texas, but they are mighty tasty! Go for the Blackfoot Fish, the Dixie Chicken or the Johnny Cash stash. Well, let's just say I experienced the seafood a second time later that night. Definitely not the way you want to end a trip. I had sent them a message about this right away, because I wouldn't want anyone else to get sick from their food and they offered me another meal, which was nice, but I was leaving in the morning. Anyway, not the best experience, but the location and view were nice.

So i decided to buy a grabone for these guys when they were available and boy was i disappointed.... a grabone deal does not mean you have to lower your standards... use it to promote your restaurant and get them to come again after... It was a $30 grabone voucher that includes a weekend brunch for two... our meals were SO small and looked horrible AND taste average. We ordered one sausage crepe and one baked eggs. The sausage crepe serving was so small (for an original price of $19) and the crepe was drying out and burnt around the edges... at least there was flavour in this one... the baked eggs was the worst baked eggs i have ever tasted.... it was all sweet capsicums (or sweet peppers) and nothing else. you could hardly taste the eggs. Also nothing to dip into the runny eggs.. no bread ... nothing. it looked plain and boring... and tasted even worse. What is the point of putting yourselves on grabone if the outcome will be to lose customers. Grabone should be an opportunity to introduce yourselves to new customers and convince them to return again.... I know they can do some amazing things with food and service but a grabone voucher does not mean you should eliminate all that to earn more money... We decided to go to another cafe after as we were still hungry...

Maybe it's just not my cup of tea as every time I have gone here, it is always busy with the locals. I came here the other night for the first time after having heard many great things; I was not disappointed. We started our dining experience with some garlic bread, YUM! It was delicious. Our mains did not fail to live up to our starter and entrees. The mains were massive meals that all came with potatoes and veges. This restaurant has a wonderful feel about it. The staff are incredibly accommodating and really want to make sure you're getting the dining experience you deserve. I have to rate this place a solid 5 out of 5! I will certainly be coming back to try the pastas, pizzas and desserts!!

It's a fairly new establishment in the area, but it's become a regular hangout for a few beers and very good food. You definitely feel the '80's vibe when you're there, and its always nice to see a little appreciation for that era. Their pizzas are delicious, particularly 'Rangi's Hangi' and 'Larry the Lamb'. They do a very nice caesar salad and my favourite main has to be the crispy chicken burger with aioli and melted brie- one of the best restaurant burgers I've had. They've got a good range of ciders and do a few cocktails to quench your thirst. They also serve most of their drinks in 600mL milk bottles, which is a really cool touch. I'd have to say that Nineteen Eighty One is best known for their fortnightly Wednesday quiz nights. The place gets packed and its always a good laugh- there's even a prize for the team that comes second to last.

On one such excursion I found myself in Onehunga Mall early on a Saturday morning and in dire need of a mocha! I headed to Brick By Brick Cafe, located at the top of the Mall where I knew I could park my car right outside with minimum fuss. Initially I thought the place was closed as at 8.00am the interior was bereft of patronage but as I pressed my nose against the glass door, it opened. I was immediately struck by the most alluring aromas; think freshly baked mouth-watering wares being hauled out of hot ovens by the tray full! Swallowing my drool, I ordered my mocha and pointed to the most delicious looking savoury muffins (still in the baking tray) and asked for one (I had to fight the urge to order all six!) Helping myself to a chilled glass of water, I sat down and began to peruse my surroundings. I've no idea what this building was in its former life but it is a most impressive structure; spacious, cool interiors, large ceiling to floor windows and my seat was a couch, trendy and extremely comfy. My muffin and coffee duly arrived and with the beaming smile from the waiting-person, I was left feeling most welcome and quite at home! The coffee, muffin and chilled water were all superb and the cheerful farewell on my departure, more than warranted the $5 tip I left on the table. My only regret: I didn't order the other 5 muffins. Maybe on my next visit!
