This restaurant has been known by many names in various incarnations over the last few years, but The Longkeeper looks like it might stick where others have failed. The redesign has given the restaurant a fresh, brighter look and made it more welcoming to a wider clientele, ranging from couples to families and larger groups. One of my dining companions shared with me that the restaurant now comes under the same umbrella as other local favorites in the VBK group (including the Village Bar & Kitchen in Patumahoe) and I did see a flair in the offerings to suggest this was the case. Our group went for a range of food from snack, starter and main menus. The pulled pork tacos and potato skins were a particular stand out. The general (and minor) complaint was that the roast vegetables offered with many of the main meals were minimal - 5 beans, a few slices of carrot. Those who stuck around for dessert found it particularly spectacular - devoured too quickly to photograph! Service was pretty good considering that we were in a large group. Meals were a little slow in coming out to the table but the kitchen offered us complimentary fries to tide us over. The only service issue that needed improvement is that no further drink orders were taken after the initial order, despite several of the glasses being obviously empty. Overall a very enjoyable evening and I'm keen to head back and give it another whirl, perhaps next time with a smaller group.
