I ordered a tuna special but they delivered me the seafood sampler (more expensive) and I took a bite before I realized and before the waitress came back to say she delivered the wrong dish. They charged me for the lower priced meal and I overheard the manager tell the person who didn't the sampler in time that his meal would be comped. Classy. Had free breakfast here 5 days while staying at our hotel. The sausage gravy and biscuits are very good and is what we had most of the time. Others items we had were also good if not amazing (grits bowl, crab crepe). Jennifer was our waitress all but one day and was wonderful. She remembered our drinks after just the first morning and had them out to us as soon as we sat down. Based on the food I would give 4 stars but the service bumps it to 5. read more

One star is a compliment. This is the worst restaurant experience that I've had in a long time. They destroyed my halibut with a sweet repugnant sauce, They offered me another main, which was every bit as bad. I can cook better than the cook they have. My husband and I left without eating or paying for the food that was served to us. I'm not paying for or eating lousy food. Also, they had a loud musician playing throughout our time there who was awful. He needs to find another job. I hope this review helps people. Best food we had while we were in OBX!! Caitlin was the best server I've had in a long time. Wife loved the pancakes and I had the country fried steak which was excellent as well. Really good gravy. We stayed at the Sea Ranch Resort the first week of June. I was traveling with family so when my parents decided to leave with the only vehicle we stayed and had lunch at the Beachside Bistro. My sisters and I are so happy our parents took the car with them because lunch was a highlight of the trip. Two of us had the fish tacos and substituted in sweet potato fries rather than whatever was the side offered. I believe there was two good sized tacos and a good pile of fries. They were perfect and so fresh. Many times when I have a fish taco I find them to be a little dry, but whatever they topped it with was fantastic. My sister agreed and I don't know about her but it took all my strength not to inhale my second taco after scarfing down the first. My other sister had a grilled chicken sandwich and she loved that as well. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a frozen margarita and when she saw my NYS license plate we had a nice conversation about New York. I thought lunch was reasonably priced. Our entrees were $12 or less, my drink was maybe $8. The girls got soft drinks. Our whole family, parents included, ended up going back the next day. My review for breakfast isn't going to be that exciting because I only ordered french toast and sausage and while it was very good it was just plain ole french toast. The rest of my family raved about their breakfast and made me jealous I hadn't been a bit more adventurous when ordering. Two of the favorites I remember were some sort of grit bowl mixture and croissant sandwiches. All of them agreed that it was the best breakfast on the trip and I do not think anyone's meal was over ten dollars. For both meals we had our choice of seating and for both meals we sat out on the very colorful back deck. The back deck is basically on the beach and would have a great view of the water if not for a large dune almost completely blocking the view. I love the environment and know about the benefits of dunes so I am definitely on the dunes side and have no complaints, but if you're looking for an ocean view while you eat you're not getting one here. My only, I guess, suggestion is that they definitely need to make their frozen margaritas stronger. It didn't have much of a taste. Whether you're staying at the Sea Ranch or not it is well worth it to give this place a try! I'm not sure why they have all the negative reviews, but we all hope to be back someday! read more

We visited the bistro upon arrival to the hotel our first night. It was a nice view to the ocean/beach & we listened to the ocean while we ate. I got the chicken tenders. They were not your typical "Applebees" style chicken tenders. They had a nice crips, batter & fried beautifully. It really hit the spot. I can only comment on the breakfast here as that is all we ate during our stay since it was included with the room. I got the breakfast platter with 2 eggs, your choice of: bacon or sausage, hash browns or grits and biscuit or toast. The first day was eggs (over easy), bacon (crispy), hash browns and white toast. The eggs were perfectly over easy. The bacon was super crispy the way I like it. The second day I have eggs (over medium), bacon (crispy), grits and white toast. Eggs and bacon were again perfectly cooked to order. The grits were not bad, had to add some butter to them, but I prefer to season myself anyways. Toast is hard to mess up. Sweet tea is super sweet, we are in the South now. All in all a good place to have a standard American breakfast with a view of the ocean. read more

I had drinks here my first night at the adjacent hotel, and it was mediocre at best. Breakfast the next two days in row? Utterly awful experience. After waiting for 10 minutes, I stood up and asked a server to assist us. After no response for another 5-10 minutes, I finally went and asked what appeared to be a manager. Twenty minutes later when our food came, we picked at the mediocre meal and eventually just left our free coupon on the table. The next day, the experience was more or less a repeat of HORRIBLE service, and mediocre food. It is a shame that the service here was so awful--it's the only beach front bar within 3-4 miles in Kill Devil Hills. I'd have love to spend more time here, but simply couldn't bring myself to do it. read more

Stayed at the hotel here so we gave it a try for dinner. Nice little eating area outside, but no view of the beach or ocean being behind the dunes. Food was edible and generous, nothing I'd go out of my way for. Service was attentive and friendly. Just stopped here by chance and was really impressed. Was out with my wife and every restaurant we passed had lines out the door so we stopped in. No wait, the local fish(Wahoo) was delicious. She had the Grooper and said the same thing. There's a patio overlooking the ocean but the dune blocks some of it. No matter, it's early in the season and we wanted to be inside and I would look at a sand dunes to eat that again. The waitress was great. Friendly and knowledgeable about the food. A few years back, this was the local hangout, with good friends and great music. After many changes in management/staff, food and service is not the same. On the few occasions this past year I've tried to give the place "another shot", it fell short. Once, the bar tender complained about having to make my drink, looking very flustered. Another time, I sat for over 30 minutes without being acknowledged by wait staff (including the person seating us at the table outside). I was there to support and listen to Phil Watson, which is the only reason I stayed. I never ordered food and went to the bar to get my own drink. I couldn't start a tab because "there was a waitress assigned to my table". LOL They close at 2:00 on Sunday. The menu is limited and pricy. I tried to give it another chance. read more

This place just recently opened in a place that has had several restaurants in the past 4-5 years. It is in the Sea Ranch hotel complex but it is worth a visit. The chef does good work. It is small but also has outside oceanfront seating if you like that. The menu is small but they offer some nice entrees and lunch items. The wine selection is nice size with plenty to pick from. Tonight was our first visit and we had the tuna on risotto and Maia (dolphin) on risotto. Both were fresh local fish, cooked perfectly and delicious. The waiter was friendly and experienced and the total dining experience was top shelf. We will be going back for sure. This review is from one visit. It was a beautiful night to try out their outside (seaside) dining. I had not realized however that outside dining equates to "smoker friendly." Each to his own, but I prefer my salmon smoked with applewood not a menthol 100. I resolved to remain open-minded toward the food but was again disappointed. My small party decided to eat off of the appetizer menu therefore this review is for appetizers. We ordered conch fritters, crab dip, egg rolls, fried oysters, and clam chowder (Hatteras style). The fritters had good flavor but no conch. The same with the crab dip (good flavor, no crab). The egg rolls were a pork BBQ flavor and were unremarkable. Fried oysters were excellent however and were perfectly cooked. Clam chowder was very good just remember that the Hatteras style is a clear base. There were lots of clams too. Lastly, the service. Overall, the service was average at best. The food arrived in a timely manner, but the drinks would always empty long before we could get another. My last beer arrived after the check. Whether the bar was backed up, or the waitresses were behind, the end result was the same. read more

This is a hidden little medium scale place. No waiting for a table. They try very hard, it is a shame to see that the place wasn't full. . They have a musician playing every night. We sat on the deck with a view of the ocean while listening to Joey (?) playing. Really good. The food was very good too. I especially like the Caesar salad which had sun-dried tomatoes in it. The fried shrimp was good and the cornbread was delicious. This is one of those places you should try when you are sick of the lines and noisy atmosphere of the more well-known joints; the food is the same except the service is outstanding and the ambience wonderful. read more

I had the salmon (great), my wife had the crab cakes (great) while the kids ate a hot dog (not so great I'm told) and the chicken fingers (great again). Seemed a little pricey untill we tasted the food and knew why... really good food. And with a 15% off coupon it was even better.
