Cali Caprese
Cameron C.

We ordered the Cali Caprese and Skinny Dipper. I thought the cali Caprese was yummy, but not the best veggie sandwich I've had. As for the skinny dipper, it was a spectacular French dip...the au jus on the other hand was extremely bland. However, the sandwich without the dip was fantastic.

Nice environs and fresh foods.

Nice warm and close environs. Food are fresh. The only thing is a little confused when Google Map navigating me to the next-door dentist place.

Stopping by the hut.

Awesome sandwiches!!! My favorite is the shark bite. But they have many great choices. They also have food veggies selections. As well as sala Lots of chips selection. Beer selection Sometimes they have some good cookies and stuff. Service here is always great. The ladies behind the counter are always friendly and good at making the sandwiches. Good spot to stay and eat either inside or outside. Or to take out.

Takeout Review: I explore takeout options in davis and wanted to try this place because I always drive by it and it looked really cool from the outside. I ordered the "Malibu" sandwich as recommended on Grubhub and opted to pay for the small size ($11), and ordered it with Jalapeños. Keep in mind the full size is ($22). Unfortunately, for the money spent the size of the sandwich was pretty small and the jalapeños I had asked for was put to the side. I found it unusual because when there is an additional option to add stuff during ordering, you would think it usually means it would already be included in the sandwich so I found it strange they gave it to me on the side. To add on, for $11 you'd expect a fulfilling sandwich but it ended up leaving me still quite hungry due to its small size. The sandwich was a 6/10; not too great but not too bad. For a takeout experience or a bang for your buck meal, this is not the place that I would not recommend to anyone. My experience may have changed if sitting inside but this is strictly regarding my pickup/takeout experience.

Fun Atmosphere

Beach Hut Deli in Davis is a real find. By far the best sandwiches we've had in our university city. The meat to roll ratio is perfect. The sandwiches (all of ours on French Rolls) are generous, fresh, quality through-and-through. Excellent value for the money. The environment is clean and thoughtfully decorated in a Tiki Bar motif. The women who work here are thoughtful and gracious, as well as skilled at making a delicious sandwich. This is definitely our new go-to deli.

Reviews are mixed. Many enjoy the fresh sandwiches, laid-back atmosphere, and friendly service. The beer selection and patio games are also popular.

This place has great sandwiches. However at least one of the workers does not wear gloves when she makes the sandwiches.

I'm glad I did because everything was delicious. I ordered the pork belly banh mi and a cup of the Greek lemon chicken and farro soup. The banh mi was definitely the highlight. The pork belly was moist, tender, chewy, and really flavorful, and the crunchy vegetables added a great contrast. The ciabatta was perfectly soft with just a little bit of grilling and worked really well with everything in the sandwich. It was also a pretty substantial portion. I could only finish half and took the other half home for my son to try. The Greek lemon chicken and farro soup was also really good. I would have loved a little more lemon zing to it, but that's really my only critique of the food. Tenisha helped me during my visit and was super friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression for a new location. My lunch came in just under $30, so it's definitely on the pricier side for a sandwich-and-soup lunch. That said, everything tasted fresh and high quality, with plenty of protein and vegetables, and the pricing seems pretty comparable to the other options in this newly updated shopping area. Overall, this was a great first visit. The food was fresh, delicious, and felt like a healthier lunch option without sacrificing flavor. I've been waiting for Mendocino Farms to open and went a little out of my way to finally try it, and it was absolutely worth the trip. I'll definitely be back.

Immediately we were greeted by the workers and kindly informed about trying out some free samples of the poke of our choice. Whoever worked today they were on their best game, multitasking the samples for us while creating a bowl for someone else. All friendly smiles and warm personalities, which is always great to see and definitely the aloha spirit!! Now on to the important stuff: The poke. I gotta say it was probably one of the best ones in California and I've tried quite a bit. Pretty darn close to the authentic stuff in Hawaii but still delicious! Everything was flavorful, bold, and a great blend of flavors. I had the Furikake bomb Ahi and Spicy Ahi Tropical Style and it definitely hit the spot. Now the base of a bowl is $14.25 with just poke and rice, so if you want all the fixings it's an additional charge. Going for the Tropical style added $4.50 bringing it to $18.75 before tax. A tad pricey but if you can afford it, definitely would recommend for the explosion of flavor. But if you want to eat it the good Ole fashion Hawaiian way, just poke and rice would be cherry, garunz barbarunz!! Highly recommend this place if you get a poke craving, and I hope to come back very soon when my craving hits!

This spot is located on G street and parking for this business is street parking only. So walking into this busy restaurant, it has a lot of youthful energy, which makes sense since it's a college town. The workers are super friendly and I was definitely greeted with friendly faces. I mentioned to the worker how this was my first visit here and they explained the menu to me a bit. They had so many poke choices-I was in poke heaven. Some of the interesting flavors include Habanero Ahi, Spicy Salmon, Spicy Ahi, Spicy Oyster Ahi, Sweet Chili Salmon & Garlic Spicy Shrimp and many others. I'm not 100% if those can just be chosen at random for the poke bowls or if those flavors are available just by the pound. For my visit, I had my eyes on one item and one item only and when I ordered it, they didn't ask me which variety I wanted, so I assume I just got traditional flavoring. I got the Triple Sashimi Wrap ($16.95), which features Tuna, Salmon, and Albacore Sashimi along with avocado, masago, spring mix, cucumber, seaweed salad, wonton strips and spicy mayo all in a seaweed wrap. After a short wait at my table, they called my number and I went up to the counter to get my food. It was beautiful. True piece of art, it was so pretty that I almost didn't want to bite into it......ALMOST. Once I did, it was everything I'd hoped it would be, sashimi was so fresh and tasty, rice was perfectly textured and seasoned, perfect amount of spicy mayo and those wonton strips gave a solid crunch. Yep this was a really solid dish. It's funny, as I was walking out of the restaurant, I called my wife and was like "Next time we are in Davis, I'm bringing you here to try this Triple Sashimi Wrap. It's legit!!" If it wasn't obvious, I really enjoyed my dish, and really enjoyed my visit to Good Friends Hawaiian Poke and really can't wait to come back and try some of the other things on this menu.....Habanero Ahi anyone?

With the student discount and a drink our total came out to about $30, which I think is a pretty good deal. I have to agree with a lot of the comments here in saying that the falafel is really good. The falafel was nice and moist, not dry at all and that perfect balance of like crumbly, but still able to maintain it shape. It appeared really well with the rice and the sauce. Speaking of which, sauces. They do not skip. My only complaint about the platter is that there aren't a ton of veggies/salad, but that's really not that big of a deal. The veggies are pretty good though, they've got a sauce and seasoned well. The gyro platter itself was pretty good, I actually really liked that the meat isn't shaved, rather it's cubed. It makes the meat feel and taste a lot more tender and juicy, as I find the shaved meat can run a little dry. Not much to say about service or ambience, as I wasn't really there for that or really paying attention. The person that was running the register was kind enough. I totally forgot until after we had ordered that they are known for their burgers. Will stop by at a later date to give that a try and update the review.
