The hosts, Will and Sylvie were extremely friendly and accomodating, knowledgeable about the area, and very hospitable. Furthermore, the B&B is just a short walk from the ocean and feels very private. My wife and I plan on staying here again in the future and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing escape.

It seems that they are by nature open and receptive people, as we immediately felt welcomed. The location is a 3 min walk from the ocean. The Inn design and decor inspires calmness with it's clean lines surrounded by 5 story tall cedar trees. The Inn is built from cedar and that wonderful smell envelops you when you arrive; the windows are also framed in cedar- a very west coast look, the decor is Japanese Zen - including opaque 'rice paper-like' sliding doors between the kitchenette, the bedroom and the bathroom/spa rooms. I say bathroom/spa because it is like your own spa - but they do have an actual spa in the Inn with lots of great services-unfortunately we didn't make time to use them! The bathroom has double sinks, a steam bath shower- that's right, your own steam room in your bathroom!- and a tub for two or more with jet bubbles. The view from the bathtub, and the bed for that matter, is trees- just trees... you feel like you are in a tree house! There is a private patio for each room, ours had a glass roof, UV heater, bamboo water feature with pond plants, a love seat, chair and bistro table where we ate breakfast every morning. The breakfasts were filling and gourmet. The little touches such as a split basil leaf as a strawberry leaf on the berry garnish, allude to how much the hosts care about your experience. My gluten sensitivity was catered to without a hitch, nor did I feel like I was missing out because of it. We spend 3 nights there, could have spent a week. Although we were there in the summer- and the weather was perfect, I'd have no problem going there in the middle of winter as a retreat. I could have easily stayed in our room the whole three days- and that isn't just because I was on my honeymoon! ;-)

First off, Roberts Creek has nothing and everything all at once. General store, a library, natural foods store, a couple of art galleries, awesome restaurant and cafe, a spa, yoga and of course - lots of water, a tranquil hiking trail and Gibsons and Sechelt really close by. The Clwyd Cottage was built by Phillip's woodworking students. The fireplace, antiques, clawed tub are the added touches that make it feel like someone's home. And the picture sitting window in the bedroom looking onto the beautiful gardens make it easy to escape the world, curl up and cuddle with a bottle of wine and a good book for hours on end. Ahhhh... (There's also a second room called the Turret Room, upstairs in the main house.) But it's the people that make this place so serene. Phillip and Sharon are lovely, kindhearted hosts with quiet voices and sincere smiles. They serve breakfast (your choice of traditional English, continental or the special and an "appetizer") at the dining room table or in your room. Tea comes in your own special pot and the company was delightful. Be ready for early mornings, breakfast is served until 9am... but you can be like me: eat and then crawl back into bed armed with a book and the same view of the gardens. Make sure you sneak peaks at the awesome stove: clawfoot, gas and convection, it looks old, but it's new and beautiful! If you don't like doilies, antiques and quiet time, this isn't your place. But if it's peace you're seeking, you might just find a little slice of it here. Sigh.

Before I start grab a complimentary port or scotch or sherry. Then let's take a tour. Ok. It will be short tour. They just have a few rooms. But first well stop at the little side kitchen where you can help yourself to coffee, tea, soda and water. For a charge they also have wine and beer available. This is also where you hang your key when you leave the house so they know who is here. We got the Under the Apple Tree Room which was spacious and nicely decorated. It even had its own private yard. Also has gas fireplace, jacuzzi style tub and stand up shower. The heated bathroom floor was a nice touch. If you get tired of your room you can also enjoy sitting outside on a deck or the living room. We really enjoyed relaxing on the couch back in our room in front of the fire place. Morning came a bit too soon. Was hard to get up out of the super comfortable down blankets on the King bed. The breakfast was ready though and included three delicious courses. Polenta with almonds, banana kirsch, and smoked salmon with poached egg on toasted croissant. Yum. Virginia's breakfast was all the better by Brian's entertaining stories of 5 years in the service business now.

Our room was big and comfy with a remote control fireplace that adds real heat into the room and a large old school bathtub. Big enough for two.... Breakfast was delicious! Three courses, one of the fanciest I've had and the daytime butler service around breakfast time was a real treat. Fantastic time! I highly recommend the Thistledown house.

It would benefit by lighter upholstery and carpets. Quite dark. Fortunately the rooms are brighter. We had a large room with king bed, sofa, fridge. Big windows allowed breeze and light in. There is no air conditioning. They warn you about this on all their communications. There is a ceiling fan and a movable fan if needed. There is a restaurant and bar. Did not eat there. But it looked busy. There was live music. You can also sit outside and the patio is dog friendly. Dogs are allowed in guest rooms too. Staff very friendly, particularly the cleaning folks. Our room was serviced daily even tho I didn't request it. Plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, bike rental nearby. Parking is $25 per night.

This is short summary of our two night stay…read more Rooms 1, 2, 3 are on 1st floor. 4&5 on 2nd floor and room 6 is in the basement. We stayed in room #3 that has AC, This one is an en-suite bedroom. Room 3 seems to be the smallest one compare to all others. We did peek into room #1 and it was larger. Pros: #1: close proximity to English Bay and #1 rated Stanley Park. Within walking distance to many restaurants. Stanley Park has Brewery that is within 5 minute walking distance from the Inn. #2: free parking spaces (3) in the back if space is available. must request ahead of time. #3: very romantic, cozy setting with lots of furnishings to go with name like English Bay Inn. Had port wine with several glasses to use. #4: Yes, the breakfast and the friendly staff serving you in the morning. The staff is very personable and paid attention to details. Cons: #3 being the smallest, we did not have enough room to open the suitcase fully but somehow managed it. If you are big, you will definitely hate this room. Overall, we will definitely stay again and recommend to others

We just checked out, and during this time of the year (May) there are beautiful flower blooms and weather to go with the charming house. My parents booked unit 6, the attic. My husband, son, my brother and I had unit 5, the basement. For Unit 6, you enter into a seating area, then go up another flight of stairs to another small seating area, the bed area and a pretty good sized bathroom. Our basement until (in photos) has a small kitchen, small dining room, and two sleeping areas. My brother was with us just one night so he took the back bedroom, and when he left our son took the bedroom. With either situation the basement was enough room for us. If you are visiting with a child, I'd recommend booking the basement to keep the rest of the house quiet for the other guests. The only downside for the basement unit is that you don't get the wonderful breakfast with it. My parents and my husband and I switched off going to breakfast on different mornings since the attic unit does include breakfast. They thoroughly enjoyed their omelet breakfast and declared that we'll enjoy our turn the next day - and we did enjoy it this morning! We had muffins, fruit salad, and delicious Eggs Benedict with corned beef, small salad, sprouts and grilled tomatoes. A gentleman sitting in front of me had the omelets the day before and asked for fruit and cereal instead today, and they happily supplied him with what he asked for. The house is obviously an older house. It's nothing like staying at a brand new five star hotel, but you can say that's all part of the charm of it. When I visit Vancouver again, I plan to book with them again as long as they have availability. The Inn is also very nicely located. You can walk a short block down to the bay and take a nice walk one way to Stanley Park (the entrance is one block north), or walk south to a popular beach and restaurant area. If you are driving, make sure to request a reserved parking space (there are only 3). I'm a fan, and if you enjoy character and supporting small quality businesses with caretakers who want to make your trip enjoyable, book with them!
