I grew up in the Beaches. My mom and I shopped at this grocery store. We walked over, as we lived on Queen Street East and it was a few blocks away. Back then, it was called IGA. It then changed to Beach IGA. Years later, it became Beach Foodland, which is still what it is called to date. This store has a hometown feel. I remember walking into the store with my mom as a kid and the folks working the produce section would say hi to me. As I grew up and shopped here to fetch groceries for my parents, staff were always friendly and asked how you were doing. I learned a lot about food and flowers from this grocery store. How to pick a carton of strawberries. How to check the expiration date on a carton of eggs. How to not pick out every box of cereal that had a toy inside. My shopping at this store has shaped how I shop to this day. I like a good deal. I also love variety. This place has both. Parking is interesting. Back then, we walked over and didn't need to think about it. Now that I live in suburbia, it's a concern. Lee Avenue allows you to park for free. However, it's pretty busy and you need to remember how to park on a slope on the north side. Alternatively, you can park along Queen Street East, but it's Green P parking that you need to shell out for. There's also a parking lot on the southeast corner of Queen and Lee. You also need to pay and spaces have always been limited in that lot. I always enjoyed the vast variety of spices in this place. The baking section is great. I started off learning how to bake. It had everything from yeast to brown sugar. I rarely did cake mixes, but we'd get the canned frosting now and again for variety. The produce section was my favourite. Everything was fresh and nicely presented. To this day, the produce section tends to be my indication of whether I'll enjoy shopping at a grocery store. The aisles remain narrow. It's a smallish store that packs a lot into it. Accessibility-wise, the aisles may be a bit of a challenge if you have a wheelchair or walker. I didn't drop by while I was in the neighbourhood yesterday. I felt that if I did, my nostalgia would have sent me into overdrive with a flood of memories. I will drop by when I'm back in the area, but it's nice to see that the store continues to thrive over the decades. (161) read more

Beach Foodland - Storefront - Grocery Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

One thing I really appreciate abou the Foodlands that I have been to is the consistency. They are not only consistent in the things that they don't carry that is featured in the flyer, but also in the reaction you get when you ask about the items you're looking for, from the flyer. It's always a quizzical look and 'No, that's not carried here' in a tone that suggests that you should knoow better than to think they carry it. So if you enjoy getting the weekly Foodland flyer and seeing thigns that really appeal to you and then going to the Foodland store to not be able to buy it, this one in theBeach is as good as the one on Danforth. Also, good luck getting any of the staff to make eye contact with you if you have a question. I suggest you do what I do and start looking a little squirrely, as though you're on the verge of stealing some food and THEN they will come over. It's also a lot of fun to see how disappointed they are when you actually DO have a legitimate question that they should answer - but instead direct you to find some random person in the back of the store - who isn't even in that day. By the way, I will be reviewing the Foodland in the North part of Toronto soon - as I already have some things from the flyer I'm wanting and I look forward to them not being available there either. And then it's off to the Islington location... where they also won't have them. read more

Nasty horrible place with nasty staff NO social distancing and NO regulation of how many people were in the store at once. People were crammed in at checkout ! It's a neighborhood place for me here in the Beach however I go out of my way NOT to shop here Ex. I bought chicken thighs on Dec 8th which were marked best before Dec 12. I opened the package up the chicjen was rancid! I of course returned chicken to the store with NO apology and it took 15 minutes for the neat manager to determine my return! OUTRAGEOUSLY RUDE And incompetent! NEVER AGAIN ! read more

Beach Foodland is an awesome supermarket and it's unfortunate that it's further away from my home than ValuMart. I've been here a few times and usually I stop by whenever I'm looking for something specific that I know I won't find on any other supermarket or grocery store in the Beach. The store carries the kind of nice and unique food (such as certain Swiss chocolate that aren't well known here in TO) that I've only found in one other place: the St Lawrence Market. I like the variety of products (and some quite unique), the prices seem to be on par with ValuMart (the only other supermarket option in the Beach) and the staff is nice enough. If there's one negative thing about the place it's how dark the aisles are... I'm not sure if it's because the shelves are so tall, the lights not bright enough, the colours too dark or perhaps a combination of all these things but they'd certainly benefit from some renovations to bring and give the store a more up to date look and feel. read more

this location is great, when im on this side of town. im not sure who takes care of the buying at this location, but what makes this location so great, is all of the product that is offered here are of the freshest quality and this store has a lot of items that are not found anywhere else in the city. great staff, great hours and clean store on the inside and outside. I go out of my way just to drop into this store every now and then to take a look at what's new and available. parking is on the street, and transit wise you have the 501 streetcar and a quick walk from the woodbine bus. definitely a must if you are in the area. read more

The bakery is always slow and they bake the worst bread you can eat. How is it possible that you walk in and to buy fresh bread @ 9:30 and it still in the oven!!!! They open @ 8 am and they don't have anything ready. Whoever owns this store is a poor business person and should sell it to those who are able to do the work read more

I do not like it at all, expensive and not very good, I did not like their meat, got spoiled quick also their bakery is as average as others. also they sell meals they cook instore but a small portion costs as much as eating in a restaurant! There is a small vegetable and fruit seller next to it with cheaper price, however I prefer to buy organic so I do not go to either of them, but to buy meat I walk up on the same side of the street to rowe farm. read more

This grocery store packs a punch for what it manages to creatively cram into the small space. Aisles are tight for browsing but when you know where things are it goes quickly, and they always have enough people at check out to keep things moving. There is a good selection in the fruit and veg section including organic choices, lots of salad greens and some prepared vegan items from Live downtown. Good selection of organic dairy, eggs and cheeses. I really appreciate having Foodland within walking distance knowing it offers all the grocery basics along with a selection of specialty items. I shop roughly bi-weekly and have never been disappointed. read more

This is technically my neighborhood grocery store. I usually get my non veggie and fruits from this store (buy them from next door). Couple things I am not impressed with here: - Not many options in terms of bakery as someone mentioned, - I feel its much more pricey than the regular stores for no reason (no superior customer service or anything, staff usually is bagging items with no consideration to eggs vs. any other delicate items), - I have bought Pita and other bakery items from here a few times and they go bad sooner than similar items I buy at other stores. I have pointed this out to the Manager as well a few times it did happen. Hardly believable that they actually stock the shelves with pita or bread with mold...thats unacceptable, - Their fruit is poor to mediocre....oranges usually have mould if you look closely and go bad the next day or two. You can even find rotting oranges or citrus fruits on the shelves...give me a break! If I had a choice, I would not go there at all but there are no other "proper" grocery stores within walking distance from my home but I will find an alternative arrangement soon. I actually think they are so busy due to the lack of any other decent grocery store close to it. read more

Tiny store, tiny aisles. Packed with far too many point of purchase displays. Aisles so small two tiny carts cannot pass each other. Toss in a couple if giant double strollers & it's an accident waiting to happen.im always afraid to turn quickly as I might hurt someone. They could easily create more space by eliminating items that don't sell. A tiny BBQ chicken is $13. & elsewhere a large one is $6.99 With so many seniors I'm the area on fixed incomes, they might try some of my suggestions. For example, a senior doesn't want 10 lbs of potatoes or 6 large porkchops. Why not offer a pkg of mixed produce eg. 1 potato,. 1 apple, 2 onions, 2 carrots & 2 celery stalks? Or smaller pkgs of meat, eg. 1/2 lb of ground meat or a pkg of ground beef & pork? A single chop? A 1/2 rack of backribs, etc. The produce manager said he would try this weeks ago. Yet to see it. Prices a 3x most other stores. Staff is ok, cashier's are great. As I am disabled and unable to walk far, this is my only option. I try to do a big shopping elsewhere when my daughter visits monthly as I don't own a car. read more

A great local Grocery store..excellent selection, good prices. small,. but they manage to be very well stocked. Lots of quality choices and specialized items..not just run of the mill. Meat and seafood ..very good and fresh. So much more satisfying to shop here than the big super market grocery stores. read more
