I really enjoyed my time at the Dockum. Our drinks came out quickly and our food was excellent. In…read moreadditions, our server Haleigh provided some great drink recommendations. I also really enjoyed the ambiance as the low lighting was quite relaxing. Overall I would highly recommend visiting the Dockum!

Had a wonderful time at my first Wichita speakeasy!…read more I'm in town visiting family, and they decided to introduce me to Dockum. And what an introduction it was. First off, this is a beautifully crafted location. Tucked away inside a rather unassuming downtown hotel, you would never imagine what's waiting for you downstairs. After crossing the lobby, we were directed to the lower level, where we had to give a secret knock to gain entry. And just like that, we were transported back in time. The atmosphere is magnificent. The intimate downstairs setting, the decor, and the overall mood give the place a personality all its own. It feels like stepping into another era, with all the charm and mystery you would expect from a speakeasy. But what makes Dockum particularly interesting is the history behind its name. In 1958, a courageous group of African American students staged a peaceful sit-in at the Dockum Drug Store lunch counter, located upstairs from where the speakeasy now sits. For nearly four weeks, these young people challenged segregation, ultimately helping bring an end to discriminatory service practices at the Dockum chain in Kansas. Think about that for a moment. Here I was, enjoying a beautifully designed speakeasy, only to discover that the building above me had been part of something far more significant than a night out. That history adds another dimension to the experience, and I appreciate that the establishment makes an effort to acknowledge it. Now, back to the drinks! Wonderfully crafted, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. I ordered The Last Word, and what made it even more memorable was the little show they put on while preparing it right at our table. I love when a cocktail becomes part of the experience rather than simply something placed in front of you by their beautiful waitstaff. The food? Good, but not great. It certainly wasn't the highlight of the evening, but it didn't take away from what made the visit special. And that's really the thing about Dockum. You're not just going downstairs to grab a drink. You're stepping into an atmosphere filled with character, enjoying a little theater, and visiting a place connected to an important chapter of Wichita's history. If you're in downtown Wichita and looking for beautifully crafted cocktails, a little mystery, and a location with a story worth knowing, Dockum is absolutely worth visiting. As for me, I already know I'll be back. After all, now that I know the secret knock, it would be a shame not to use it again.

The last time I was here, the place was called Cy's and Tuesday was steak night. Now, the Tuesday…read morefeature is tacos for .99 each. Order several or you will have to wait, because these tacos are GREAT! The waitress is busy delivering drinks and tacos to tables full of hungry patrons. Beer flows from the tap like a waterfall, filling glass after glass of tasty beer to go with those delicious tacos. The decor looks about the same as when I visited a few years ago, but the atmosphere has changed. It is decidedly friendlier, more family friendly, because I saw little kids at a table eating tacos too. While relaxing, there are plenty of pool tables and dart boards to get your game on. We enjoyed our time here and will be back again soon.

I actually had to say hello twice I don't think she ever said hello back. I asked for a menu she and she gave it to me and stepped away why I browse the menu. I tried to get her attention for several minutes until I had to stare her down. She finally acknowledge me and asked was already to order she told me to wait a minute or better yet the lady on the floor could help me . Mind you the bar wasn't that busy. If I wanted to sit on the floor and eat I would have sat there I went to sit at the bar to be social . Clearly I was not wanted there so I left did not order food or drink. For reference the bartender was a lady with short dirty blonde hair and with glasses.
