Which took like 3 drinks away I wanted to taste. No big deal though! It's a reason to come back. Every drink came out perfectly and timely. The pink panther was the drink of the night and the summer cocktail, Mango of my Dreams. I really loved the vibe and environment here. It felt warm and welcoming and vibrant and fun! Had a wonderful time at my first Wichita speakeasy!…read more I'm in town visiting family, and they decided to introduce me to Dockum. And what an introduction it was. First off, this is a beautifully crafted location. Tucked away inside a rather unassuming downtown hotel, you would never imagine what's waiting for you downstairs. After crossing the lobby, we were directed to the lower level, where we had to give a secret knock to gain entry. And just like that, we were transported back in time. The atmosphere is magnificent. The intimate downstairs setting, the decor, and the overall mood give the place a personality all its own. It feels like stepping into another era, with all the charm and mystery you would expect from a speakeasy. But what makes Dockum particularly interesting is the history behind its name. In 1958, a courageous group of African American students staged a peaceful sit-in at the Dockum Drug Store lunch counter, located upstairs from where the speakeasy now sits. For nearly four weeks, these young people challenged segregation, ultimately helping bring an end to discriminatory service practices at the Dockum chain in Kansas. Think about that for a moment. Here I was, enjoying a beautifully designed speakeasy, only to discover that the building above me had been part of something far more significant than a night out. That history adds another dimension to the experience, and I appreciate that the establishment makes an effort to acknowledge it. Now, back to the drinks! Wonderfully crafted, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. I ordered The Last Word, and what made it even more memorable was the little show they put on while preparing it right at our table. I love when a cocktail becomes part of the experience rather than simply something placed in front of you by their beautiful waitstaff. The food? Good, but not great. It certainly wasn't the highlight of the evening, but it didn't take away from what made the visit special. And that's really the thing about Dockum. You're not just going downstairs to grab a drink. You're stepping into an atmosphere filled with character, enjoying a little theater, and visiting a place connected to an important chapter of Wichita's history. If you're in downtown Wichita and looking for beautifully crafted cocktails, a little mystery, and a location with a story worth knowing, Dockum is absolutely worth visiting. As for me, I already know I'll be back. After all, now that I know the secret knock, it would be a shame not to use it again.

The sauce is what is providing the flavor. The fries were crunchy and good. The food came out at a decent temperature. My friend ordered the Ginger Chicken Bites, Deviled Eggs and Truffle Fries. She felt the chicken bites didn't have any flavor and were okay. I felt the chicken bites could've had more flavor as well. It was fresh and hot though. She enjoyed the fries and Deviled Eggs. The Sunshine Old Fashioned and Paradise Peach drinks were 9.5/10! I ordered a medium well filet mignon, loaded baked potato and sautéed green beans to go. As seen in the photo, there were a SCOOP of green beans. The steak was overcooked and not even close to medium well which is what I ordered. My mother thought it all tasted good, it just wasn't cooked how I asked for it to be. I'd rate the overall experience a 7/10.

From their facebook and the article I got the vibe it was a Cocktail Lounge/Bar with live music etc. We came on a Friday night, there was a good amount of people in the bar. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits enjoying their drinks. We sat at the bar and the bartender Julian helped us. He was very friendly and approachable. I order the Suga Suga How You Get So Fly (it is an espresso martini with a cinnamon rim and a brown sugar syrup) my husband got the Mr. M Berry. Unfortunately I did not like my drink, I drank my husband's drink. His drink was good. Mine tasted very syrupy and artificial in flavor. We decided to stay for one more drink to leave on a good note. I ordered a Tequila Old Fashion (not on the menu) and my husband got Moxie's 4x4. These were a lot better than our first drink. For my old fashion it was very thick and syrupy, but I let the ice melt for a while and it was a better texture. I plan on coming back with some girlfriends and maybe trying some new drinks. As well I think I would like when they have live music more. They were playing really loud club music. Rap and R&B. Don't get me wrong I like that music. But not at a Cocktail Lounge Bar. I was hoping for something a little more relaxing and sensual. Dimmer lights and music to match that vibe. I know it's new so maybe they are still trying to adjust the overall aesthetic. Overall it was a 4/5 maybe a 3.5/5. I will give a more updated review my second time around with the live music and other drinks. Bartender and service: 5/5 Prices are reasonable. Bar is clean and well kept. Menu: 1/5. They are hard to read and flip pages.

Our small group of 3 already bought 8 drinks and been there for maybe an hour and they told us we need to leave because they have a reservation coming in... When we got up there were 4 booths empty, and all the small tables were empty and half the bar.... I think they told us to leave because it was like 30 mins since we ordered our last drink. Or they didn't want us there and made up an excuse. Either way... weird. I've stayed here before for a long time and bought less drinks and wasn't asked to leave. It was dead inside at 1030PM. Confusing. Other tables were there just as long as us but weren't asked to leave? Tough. Because we come here a lot not sure if I want to come back

He also does a damned good job at trying to remember peoples names which is appreciated highly. I hopped in around 2:45pm or just before they switched from their lunch to dinner menu. I ordered their Cod fish sandwich with house chips on the side, and the Cheddar Potato Leek soup. The Cod sandwich I recommend, unfortunately I've never had anything like it before so I cannot provide any detail in which it can be compared to anything else in town. The flavors are subtle and the gochujang aioli with pickled veggies really balance out the sandwich. The Cheddar Potato Leek soup is a hit, every bite as good as the first, and with the fall / cooler weather coming I'll be looking forward to ordering this often. If you're able to make it here around the 2:45 + timeframe it's pretty open for anyone to come in and get served immediately as it is just after the lunch rush. The inside is dimly lit, and You'll hear the staff hustle and bustle and the kitchen with the clinks and clanks of dishes and silverware. Music ranges with just about anything.

Salmon was great and had crispy skin, but the Yukon potato could be a bit crispier and the veloute was a bit thin, but otherwise really nice presentation. The caviar was a nice touch, but it was a bit strange on top of the Lays like chips. The duck is a bit well-done, when compared to traditional French style, but it was still pretty tender. The duck glace was pretty good and flavorful -- leans savory and sweet. The sweet potato puree was a good balance to the duck breast, creamy and a bit of zest. Bok choy was slightly over-charred but otherwise ok. The croquette was cool already when we got it so I didn't enjoy that quite as much. Broccolini wasn't my favorite. It was really woody. Maybe it was just my portion, but I should've gotten a different side. Portions were just right. Overall, not a bad place for a Friday night dinner or a little date night!
