And then there's something you don't often encounter in retail these days: an Information Desk right as you enter, staffed by a genuinely kind and helpful person. Mahoney's Information Desk is the exact opposite of what I've come to expect at, for example, Home Depot or Lowe's. Neither retailer has convinced me that they truly value their customers. In fact, I've often been left with the impression that the leadership and staff at Home Depot and Lowe's view their customers as a nuisance rather than an asset. At Mahoney's, it's an entirely different experience. As customers, we feel genuinely welcomed and valued. The quality of everything at Mahoney's is exceptional, whether it's houseplants, fresh flowers, annuals, perennials, shrubs, or trees. Everything is tastefully displayed, thoughtfully organized, and easy to find. Every staff member we've interacted with has been kind, knowledgeable, and professional. The floral department is equally impressive. It may not quite rival Winton's in Boston, but it comes close! Recently, we needed a plant as a housewarming gift for friends whose daughter, of all things, owns a neighboring florist. With all due respect to their daughter, we knew that a houseplant from Mahoney's would make a wonderful impression. And it did! The woman who assisted me in the floral department was every bit as kind as she was helpful. I'm also impressed by Mahoney's email marketing. I don't know who is responsible for creating its email campaigns, but we genuinely look forward to receiving email from Mahoney's. Even better, within a day of making a purchase, we receive an email with care instructions for whatever we bought. It's a thoughtful, practical touch that demonstrates Mahoney's commitment to its customers long after they've left the store. We're huge fans of Roger's Gardens in Newport Beach, California. In fact, we admire it so much that, whenever we're in California, we're willing to drive about two hours to visit. That's how highly we regard Roger's Gardens, and I would put Mahoney's right up there with it. Walking into Mahoney's gives you a refreshing jolt: the experience of being treated like a valued customer, greeted warmly, and assisted by people who genuinely seem to care. Unfortunately, these qualities have become all too rare in retail, today. Mahoney's gets it right. From the quality of its plants and flowers to the professionalism of its staff and the thoughtful follow-up after a purchase, Mahoney's demonstrates what an outstanding retail experience should be. Knowing the quality of their products and their committed staff, we chose Mahoney's as the florist for our vow renewal event. I met with one of the floral designers Denise. She took the time to understand the specifics of our event and our vision. She was sure to get specific on picking great colors that would match and incorporating many of our favorite flowers. I could never have imagined how beautiful they would be. They were the perfect touch to our venue and our pictures. My plants were in desperate need of some TLC, and Anna not only saved them but also gave me some helpful tips to ensure they thrive. She really knows her stuff! She was friendly, but not overbearing (which I love! Hello, this is Boston), kind, and generous. She made the entire experience so enjoyable and stress-free. Anna was also fantastic with my daughter, taking the time to explain things about the root system in such a down-to-earth way. I could see she was inspiring a love of plants in her too, which was such a special touch. It's rare to come across someone who's not only knowledgeable but genuinely passionate and kind. I've been to this location before (about two years ago), and I also had a great experience with a blond guy who helped me then. He was excellent as well, and my plant that he helped me save is still thriving! The store itself is lovely--great ambiance, light, temperature, and atmosphere. It feels so peaceful. They carry a wide selection of plants and such fun, quirky products. Their employees never try to upsell or be pushy, but if you need help -- they help.
