Bought one yard of bulk loam which was very very sandy. I will look else where next time before I buy loam there.

My review is based on nursery stock only. They have a lot of great stuff at this location. It's basically a satellite location for their main facilities so it's not nearly as large as others. From a contractor standpoint they're great! read more

Very disappointed and saddened with my experience here. I came here yesterday and purchased some beautiful flowers and plants. Went home and for some unfortunate circumstances I had to return all of them the next day. I walk in and the girls there are super friendly they tell they have to get the manager for a return. This manager had short dirty blonde hair and sun kissed skin. She walked up to the counter and took a look at me and my items, and in a very low voice that sounded pissed off, asked me if I'm returning everything. Then proceeded to not say a word and started doing the register. Throughout this whole interaction she had an attitude and didn't even look once my way. Then at the end she puts the receipt on the table and says, it went back onto your card. And goes back to doing something on the register. At this point I was so confused because of how abrupt she was, so she took a look at me and said you're all set, you could cut the tension with a knife. I proceeded to say thank you, I appreciate your help today very genuinely because I understand I guess she's upset because I'm returning my things even though that's so wrong she has no idea what is going on in my life that had caused those circumstances. After I said thank you and everything she ignored me and I just walked out awkwardly. Honestly at the end of the day, who knows what's going on with her but I'll pray for her. Because people that are happy in their lives are nice, and unhappy people are mean ‍. read more

OVERPRICED/RUDE/UNPROFFESSIONAL- Nice way to crap on a 20+ year customer and their employees! My wife is a regular there and has been for some time. We drive all the way from Londonderry, NH to give them our business. My wife knew one of the employees which often assisted her with finding the right materials and products for her garden projects. She loved this place, regardless of the overpricing! Last Tuesday, my wife, the employee, and a supervisor were discussing the purchase of a couple trees where the employee was given permission by the supervisor to let my wife use her employee discount. I went there today with my wife to make the purchase and pick p the trees. Unfortunately, our friend was not there but she filled in the story to another employee and asked her to take care of us with the discount. No one was to be found out by the trees so we walked all the way up to the front of the first building and grabbed a cashier to come get the slips off of the trees. While on our way back, the young girl was shark attacked by "Ellen" who always walks around that place like someone pissed in her cheerios, and was given the 3rd degree right in front of us. I was almost going to jump to her defense as the only time I ever saw such grotesque unprofessionalism, was from this same woman at this same location. She made a big deal and refused to listen to us about the supervisor's permission for the discount. Made us walk all the way to the front of the first building for nothing, as she brought the slips to the building mid-yard and left them there with a guy named Jim. Jim was unspeakably rude and unprofessional, beyond resistant about giving us the discount. We were getting an attitude by both of these individuals simply because our friend was granted permission to help us out. We never would have asked had we known it would turn into this. Jim told us, as customers, that because of the employee trying to use her discount, she was going to be out of a job. We told him we didn't want it turning into that so we didn't want the trees. He said fine and rudely walked away. I decided maybe I would call Mike the owner to complain and see if his ethics as a business owner would show an ounce of compassion for the situation. I was wrong. He simply gave the excuse that they were all having a bad day and he would "talk" to them. Yeah, I'm sure he did.... The employee ended up quitting over this, we ended up not buying the trees. Congratulations Mike, owner of Mahoney's! You lost not only one of what many customers considered an asset employee there but our forever business as well. We will spend our money where it is appreciated, and ensure you get fair ratings across the board on social media! You have earned a negative STAR RATING! I bought 10 bags of Hemlock mulch last week and spread it in a flowerbed in the front of my home. Each bag had an inconsistent color mulch, either reddish brown or dark brown, which I've never had happen with any type of mulch, it's always the color they advertise. Since the mulch was wet coming out of the bags, you couldn't see the color inconsistencies until it dried. My flower bed looks terrible with two colors mixed together. When I complained, their supervisor was like, what do you want us to do? I requested a refund and they wanted a sample of both, which I dropped off. It was obvious they were two different colors. The person that took the samples just looked at them, put them aside and said nothing. Pretty rude considering they don't own the company themselves. I wouldn't bother buying mulch from this business... read more

This is a very run-of-the-mill garden center. Plants are no more interesting than what you'd find in a grocery store floral department. I was horrified when I went in around Christmas and found they had glued glitter on the poinsettias' leaves. Poor plants. What an insult. Ew. read more

I really enjoy shopping at Mahoney's for my gardens in the spring/summer. They have a huge selection of annuals for my window boxes and perennials for my back yard gardens. Mike Mahoney has been very helpful with some bug problems I have had in the past too, he really knows his stuff! Then I found out that they also had a florist. I met with a young woman Rachel and I was eerie because she was so young but she took my order, explained everything, gave my options, etc. The piece was for my mother's birthday and she did a beautiful job. My mother loved it, and it was a great price. Will now be using Mahoney's for any events that I need fresh flowers for. read more

We purchased several roses from Mahoney's. The first year, they bloomed beautifully and were a wonderful addition to our garden. The following season, they were all dead. All of them....in all parts of a very large area. We spoke to the supervisor, Linda, who was incredibly rude and obviously didn't care. All of our other plants that we purchased elsewhere - peonies, butterfly bushes, hostas, etc. - thrived. The roses were dead. I've been gardening for years so droughts, bugs, and aliens were not to blame. She reluctantly offered us 1/2 off toward a credit. Big whoop. Her attitude was accusatory and unprofessional. Good deal when you buy a flat of veggies. Much cheaper then the box stores, more knowledgeable too. Good compost there as well.

Really miss the days of Laughton Garden Center, I won't go to Mahoney any more. The managers especially are rude and unwelcoming . They let the property fall into ruins after I expected them to rebuild. It's good thing they have a few dedicated employees or they'll be in real trouble. I'd rather take the extra time to drive to other nurseries . read more

I have recieved flowers from mahoneys in Chelmsford several times and placed an order with them once before. The first arrangement I recieved was stunning so that is when I decided to order one to be sent to my mother, instead of using the mediocer one I was using before. The women that made the arrangement I specifically asked for did not follow the picture I pointed out to her in the book. I was less then pleased. Then I recieved another arrangement from Mahoneys again (the person who sends them to me is loyal to mahoneys) and again it was absolutely stunning! So I was a little confused as to why the one I had ordered was less then impressive, I called the day I received the flowers and asked to speak with the florist, and it was not the one I had originally spoken to, I told her that they were stunning and asked her name - Rachael, from now on I will be using her, its unfortunate that the quality of mahoneys depends on which person your dealing with, it should be all around quality. read more
