Good, smokey bbq. Nice, clean restaurant w friendly service. Mac & cheese and fried okra sides were on point.

My husband and I visited BBQ2U this afternoon and we were pleasantly suprised. He got the brisket and kept raving about it hours (literally!) after we had left. According to him, it had the perfect about of char and fat in proportion to the meat itself. The portion size was perfect, and with the two sides that came with his meal, he was full but not overly so. My main course was the BBQ jackfruit. I'm not totally sure if they sauce or seasonings they use on the jackfruit is gluten free, but I'll assume it is since I'm very sensitive to gluten and the jackfruit didn't upset my stomach at all. The jackfruit itself had a sweeter flavor and paired nicely with the spices they used to cook it. If you're a vegetarian, or just curious to see if you can tell the difference between it and real pulled pork, I'd highly recommend the jackfruit.(That's my polite way of saying " GET IT GET IT GET IT!") The sides that came with our meals are where BBQ2U loses a star. Husband and I got two sides each. He got the beans and the potato salad. I also had potato salad but with coleslaw instead. My husband liked the beans, but commented on the very strong tomato-like taste and the use of too much (what he assumed) vinegar. He and I both agree that we've had better potato salad. The potatoes did not seem to be cooked correctly and I think they skipped the seasonings. It was very bland, save for the pickles that were in the potato salad. The same could be said for the coleslaw. It was fresh and well made, but had no seasoning. I know they are just side dishes, but if the main meal is so delicious, shouldn't the sides compliment that? Furthermore, if the main meals are prepared so carefully (which they obviously were) shouldn't the side dishes have the same careful preparation? BBQ is not cheap. If we're going to spend that much money on a meal, all of it needs to be good. We need to talk about atmosphere, because these guys NAILED IT. The restaurant was clean. The decorations were all tasteful Americana, and were not cluttered all over the walls. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and it made you feel like you can let down your guard a little bit. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. I'll definitely be going back, and I'll even try the sides again. Who knows? Maybe today was just an off day. It happens. read more

It was my first time trying this restaurant yesterday & it's already my favorite place! The brisket is AMAZING, especially on the brisket sandwich.... Went here for this first time yesterday. Guys at the counter we're great, helped with our order. Had Texas tray w/3 meats and 3 sides. Ribs and brisket. Oh my goodness ... it was fantastic!!! Good Smokey flavor, right amount of fat vs meat. Sides were solid too. Sauce at the table was sweet and had just a little kick. Corn on the cob would make for a nice addition. We don't frequent this place too frequently - more of a special treat, as most dining out or take out is for us. But this time, I felt compelled to submit a review. Ordered a basic brisket and half-rack of pork ribs, along with some mac and cheese and potato salad for take out last night. There was nothing "basic" about it. Have to say this was probably the best BBQ we've had in years. Although BBQ2U has always been pretty darn good, this experience last night was over the top! Don't know if they've changed anything since the last time we ate there (about 2-3 months ago), but if they have, they need to change no more. Bottom line, we're not going to wait as long as 2-3 months to return! We ordered on line, and the food was ready right on time, too. I stoped by after work for take out. The dino beef ribs are amazing. Expensive but worth it. I really like their bar-b-q sauce. Not a fan of their potato salad. Too vinegary for me. I have had better. Coleslaw is OK. Will be back to try one of their sampler of meat trays. read more

Amazing Food, service and a cool dinning area. They had a pretty long line when I went in but you could see they were moving as fast as they could get the orders in. I ordered for two people and the meat was cut and ready before I finished paying. Food was top notch, We tried the brisket and spare ribs with fried okra and baked beans. Beans were sweet and had little pieces of bacon. Okra was a little over breaded if I had to find a criticism on anything. The meat was great, tried a little sauce but we honestly ate most of the meal dry since the flavors were so good. Very cool place! Will definitely return and give lunch a try! read more

I had my first outing here this afternoon with my best friends. We love Southern BBQ, and we're all picky, so this place had high standards to meet. Did it ever! Brisket that was easily the moistest, tenderest, and most flavorful I've ever had, with pulled pork that all but melted in my mouth. Also, I usually don't have smoked turkey, but BBQ2U has turkey that is worth a shot - good, smokey flavor that was neither harsh nor chemical in taste. The sauce was good, too, with bottles of it and hot sauce on the tables. As for the sides, the fried pickles, cole slaw, and mac 'n' cheese were excellent. Save room for the banana pudding! I'm coming back, and bringing my SO with me - we'll probably pig out on the brisket when we do! read more

I've lived in WA for over 10 years, previously having been raised in Texas and Oklahoma. I stopped looking for decent bbq in WA years ago. It just doesn't exist, not like the slow smoked meats I grew up around. Then these guys opened. Hallelujah. Flavorful smoked ribs, and my goodness that brisket. If you haven't ever enjoyed a brisket before, you gotta try theirs. You don't need sauce, it's so flavorful you'd just be covering it up. But if you like a very good, honey sweet bbq sauce they've got it. I stop by often and pickup a slab of ribs and a pound or two of brisket. This place is a treasure for GH, puts ANY other bbq joint within 100 miles (maybe a thousand) to shame. read more

We used to love this place but things have significantly gone down hill. I went to pick up our order today, ended up standing in line behind one other customer for several minutes. The two young men in the front seemed more interested in talking about hobbies with the male customer than assisting me, and it seemed very misogynistic. I finally went up next to the other customer and asked if I could just get my order (which I already paid for). After I got home I discovered their portion sizes have significantly changed. My husband and I are from Texas. Born and raised, went to University of Texas, and ate some of the best BBQ around while there: Franklins, Lockhart, Salt Lick, you name it. The guys at Gig Harbor BBQ2U all have massive smiles slapped across their faces from the moment you walk in the door--true southern hospitality. Didn't take more than a few seconds to talk TX bbq, TX Longhorns, and sweet pecan pie with Blue Bell Ice Cream straight from the south. We shared one of their platters with melt-in-your-mouth brisket, spare ribs, slaw, Mac, and potato salad. All delicious! They have TX toast, pickles, peppers and onions at the bar, and will bring your dessert to the table warm once you finish licking your fingers. The sauce is great, too!! Incredible. We loved the brisket, pork ribs, and chicken. The fry seasoning is delicious. Mac n cheese paired perfectly with the meat. House sauce was amazing. Okay so we were thinking pizza for a dinner for about $30. We had to stop at the UPS store first and we could smell BBQ. We thought eh... Let's see what specials they have. For the same price as a pizza we got 3 meats and 4 sides... Fed our family of 3 and the two dogs with some leftover for lunch tomorrow. The best part is the food was awesome full of BBQ flavor. I gave the dogs a little taste and I think they thought about taking me out to get the brisket away from me. The people at the shop super nice! This BBQ joint instantly jumped to the very top among local places IMO. I've been to Lockhart, Texas several times and consider it the BBQ mecca of this country. This is authentic Lockhart BBQ at its finest. Beware, though - the beef sausages have slightly tough casings. But the pulled pork, brisket and chicken are all to die for. read more
