Speaking as a Texan being in WA for work I wanted to try Washingtonians attempt on making Tex-mex. Got the staple at BBQ spots aka brisket and It didn't disappoint. Also got their Mac and cheese brisket and HOLY it was amazing. Potato salad had celery in it never seen that before but it was still good. First time here and it was excellent! We had: - Pork tacos on corn tortillas. The pork was smoky good and lean. Delicious. - St Louis ribs with potato salad and coleslaw. Ribs were meaty with just the right amount of BBQ sauce. The coleslaw was not too sweet. Potato salad was very good. - Tater tots were very tasty, not greasy at all with a light crunch. Yum. Was skeptical to try Tex mex food but it now might be my favorite. We ordered the brisket fries the ribs potatoe salad mac and the churros and it was absolutely delicious it was hard to put the food down nothing missed easily a 10/10 hole in the wall. read more

BBQ TEX MEX in Gorst (360) 516-9912 Review We ordered a half pound of brisket, St. Louis ribs they each came with two sides we got mac & cheese, Charro beans, potato salad the orders came with Texas toast we ordered an additional Texas toast add on of cornbread and a side of sauce, the sauce wasnt needed. Meat was super wet and tender, smoke rings present, the meat wasnt overly smokey or dry, bbq sauce was well seasoned a little heat, a little sweet and vinegary, the mac & cheese is a very creamy béchamel base was very delicious and rich, the potato salad was good, potatoes perfectly cooked, if you don't like crunchy celery keep that in mind, Charro beans were fine (not traditional baked in case you aren't familiar) topped with fresh onion and cilantro, the yellow (not white) cornbread was a big hunk just barely on the dry side so I heated it up added butter and honey stayed a little dry for me, some people love that (soak in beans!), had great corn flavor, wasn't too sweet or flat. Service was friendly and it was super fast, server understood my phone order and got it 100% correct!!!! Total was $66 plus tip. We were more than happy to pay that price- bbq is time, food is expensive, rent of the location is expensive and someone's gotta make a living! We'll go back. We stopped here on the way to the airport, just looking for a place to grab a quick bite. It was AMAZING. We ordered a one pound plate and a few extra sides to share among three of us and it was the perfect amount or maybe even too much. The Charo beans and Mac & Cheese were the best, but the rest of the food was so good! The staff were helpful and attentive. Went with middle daughter (21) , wife and I after doing some shopping. Daughter got the chicken nachos, wife the chicken burrito and I got the brisket sandwich with a brisket Mac and cheese on the side. Anyway, 10 minutes after ordering, my sandwich and the burrito came out - with the Mac and cheese and nachos about 4 minutes later. M Giant burrito - probably 14-15" long, wife ate half and packed the rest out; my sandwich was pretty danged delicious too. Only thing I can say is the bun/roll was toasted a bit heavy but necessary because slaw, pickles and sauce did a number on it. Sandwich was great. Mac and cheese was homemade, and definitely worth it. Daughter (who is pretty much a foodie like me) loves her chicken nachos. Service was good; just the guy running the counter and the cook in the back. Definitely worked well together for sure. Ambience is....well, it's a strip mall slash gas station. Better than it looks from outside but it's next to a highway so it's a bit loud. Can't help it so I'm not faulting them. Definitely would recommend - I'll come back for certain, but most likely next time will get it to go, simply because road noise. read more

I hate giving bad reviews, but hopefully it will help someone. This is a newer restaurant and maybe they are just working some things out. But hopefully they do it quickly. The location is perfect for this type of restaurant. Right away I thought it was strange that they didn't offer any combo options on their menu. My wife ordered the brisket and I ordered the pulled pork. We picked the mac and cheese, Charro beans, and coleslaw as sides. We also order a hot link. They were out of potato salad. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we ordered. Over 30 minutes later, we got our order. Ok, the good things...Their barbecue sauce was delicious. The pulled pork was good. Just a little dry. We both enjoyed the Charro beans. Now the other side. Right away we saw that the brisket was covered with barbecue sauce. Don't sauce my brisket. That means you're hiding something. And they were. After removing the sauce, I saw that the brisket was cut with the grain. Anyone who has ever touched a brisket knows you cut it against the grain. The brisket had a nice smoke ring and a mild smoke flavor, but was chewy. I'm not sure if it's because of the cut or the way it was smoked. The mac and cheese was bland. Whatever cheese they use has no flavor. The coleslaw was ok, but very dry. The hot link was served cut up in quarters lengthwise. It seemed like they were prepped for sandwiches. They were dry with not much heat or flavor. One step up from a hotdog. And don't call your bread, Texas toast. Please research Texas toast before you put that on your menu. Our bill was about $40. I wish them luck, not sure I'll be back. read more

When we went in and were confronted by the server. She was pretty nice! However she definitely did not know the POU system (that's fine, totally understandable) in the middle of taking our order at the front counter her cell phone rang and she proceeded to pull it out and answer the phone... not a good look when you're talking to customers. It took a good 5 minutes to get our 4 item order rang in. Once again, I understand. The reason I'm giving it a 2 star vs a 1 is the portion size... god damn it was huge! I got the brisket burrito and my wife got brisket nachos. The burrito wasn't bad but wasn't great. The nachos were cold, there wasn't much cheese there to begin with but it was barely melted, there just wasn't much to the nachos. I'm not accusing this place of going this but if they do do it, no harm no foul. I don't believe they smoke their meat in house. Decided to give this place a try based on reviews and it did not disappoint! Pulling in you wouldn't expect such good food tucked in to a small strip mall in Gorst but you'd be wrong. The hostess was very welcoming, attentive and KIND. We tried a pound of brisket with charro (cowboy) beans, potato salad and fries. The brisket was just the right amount of tenderness and some nice smokiness to it, 10/10. The Charro beans were fantastic, a touch of spiciness but really tasty and clearly made from scratch 10/10. Potato salad was good, neutral and well balanced 8/10. Fries were fresh and delicious 8/10. My daughter had the pulled pork and raved about it 10/10. There was one type of bbq sauce that was well balanced, 9/10. Service was dialed in 10/10. Will definitely be going back for this hidden gem in Gorst. read more

Brisket was good and Cornbread looks like it's been made and wrap it up with Saran Wrap by the time people order it they just throw it in the microwave. We stopped in tonight after randomly seeing it changed business's again. Really really hope this one stays around! We ordered brisket, pulled pork, ribs, hot links, Mac n cheese, potato salad, rice, fries... everything was so good! We were pleasantly surprised by the price, taste, quality, the sweet young lady working was very helpful, we loved everything and will definitely be back!
