I'm always searching for that hidden gem -- the kind of place you only hear about through the…read moregrapevine. Ken's Steak & Ribs in Amber, OK is exactly that place. From Oklahoma City it's less than an hour drive, and before long you know you've left city life behind. As the old saying goes, never judge a book by its cover -- and the same applies here. From the outside the building is pretty modest, but once you step inside you immediately get that cozy, homey feeling. Another unique feature: the restaurant is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 4:30-9:00 PM, and there are no menus. Your server simply tells you the options: * 8 oz or 12 oz Sirloin * Prime Rib * Rib Dinner * Chicken * Smoked Sausage * Salad Bar * Baked Potato, Sweet Potato, or Fries In my opinion, this is a classic approach -- keep the menu simple so the food and experience can shine. Based on reviews I had read on Facebook and Yelp, the advice was to arrive early or expect a line. Since this was our 20th anniversary dinner, we arrived about 30 minutes before opening and waited comfortably in the parking lot. Good move -- we were seated right when the doors opened at 4:30. The atmosphere inside is dimly lit and quaint, giving it a relaxed small-town steakhouse vibe. Our server Virginia greeted us quickly, took our drink order, and we both ordered the 12 oz sirloin with baked potatoes. The salad bar is simple but well done. One detail I loved: refrigerated salad plates -- in my opinion that's the only proper way to serve a side salad. The offerings included iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shredded carrots, cucumbers, chives, croutons, and dressings like blue cheese, French/Catalina, and ranch. They also offer fried okra and pinto beans, which adds a nice Oklahoma touch. Instead of rolls, each diner receives a barbecue rib to start the meal -- now that's a unique and delicious idea. Our steaks arrived shortly after. I ordered mine medium rare, my wife went with medium rare plus, and both were excellent. The first bite had that unmistakable mesquite flavor, and the seasoning was spot on. Honestly, we probably didn't need the 12 oz steaks -- neither of us finished them. Could I have? Sure. But why be miserable? The meal was outstanding and exactly what we were hoping for on a special night. The only small disappointment was that there are no dessert options, but that's hardly a deal breaker. Final thoughts: Ken's Steak & Ribs is absolutely worth the trip. It takes a little planning because of their limited hours, but if you're looking for a classic Oklahoma steakhouse experience, this place delivers. We'll definitely be back.

They open at 4:30 and there were just a few tables left. The venue is in an old vintage building so common across small town Oklahoma. It's definitely casual with a very relaxed atmosphere. There is no menu and the offerings are limited: prime rib, sirloin steak and ribs. There is a wonderful salad bar. The salad is cold, as are the plates. On the salad bar is fried Okra and brown beans. They also offer a complimentary rib for each diner. The rib was very good. I ordered the sirloin. It was cooked to order and was flavorful. Sirloin is not a cut I would order if given options. Wish they had filet, T-bone and ribeye on the menu. Jan ordered the prime rib. It was nice and she enjoyed it. Texas Toast is served with the meal. It was nice to do something different. We enjoyed the meal. The hospitality was exceptional. The service very good. The prices are moderate. They do not serve alcoholic beverages.

I love Bbq and have had it in many states and many different regions and styles. I've probably…read moreeaten at least 50 different bbq restaurants in my lifetime. My son brought me here for Father's Day since we both had not been here before. We both agree this was the worst bbq we've ever had. Our waitress was nice and checked on us many times. The restaurant was clean and decorated nicely like a homestyle bbq restaurant with the wood and decor like a buffalo head , antler chandelier , steer skull with horns , and a picture of a cowboy. So , most bbq places have something that's really good and other things that are just okay. That is expected. The only things we agreed were good was the Hot Link , Salsa for the chips and the Mild Bbq Sauce. Our waitress came by and asked us a couple times how does everything taste. My son being nice said Good , while I was biting my tongue to not sound mean as he was looking at me. I was just going to say , Hmmm it's okay. I really don't like to complain especially to someone so nice to us. To start we had the Smoky Queso with pieces of Brisket. The Salsa was good , but the queso with brisket was a miss. I got the 2 Meat Plate with Pulled Pork and Sliced Brisket , Mashed Potatoes and Gravy , Sweet and Smoky Beans , Sliced Pickles , and Texas Toast. The Brisket had no smoke taste , no seasoning taste , no taste at all just hard to describe being that plain. The Pulled Pork had a little smoke taste to it and wasn't dry. I added the Carolina Gold Bbq Sauce to it to help it out. Well , the Carolina Gold Bbq Sauce tasted like straight up Mustard with hardly a hint of Vinegar. I've had some good mustard sauces , but prefer the Carolina Vinegar and Red Pepper Bbq Sauces. I love bbq baked beans and almost every bbq restaurant I've been to has good or great beans , not these ! They tasted straight up like Van de Camps Pork and Beans with a little Bbq Sauce added to it and no bits of Sausage or Brisket in it. Some places I've been to several times I will get 2 orders of beans because they taste so good. My Mashed Potatoes and Gravy was really plain and I added a lot of pepper to it. Even my Sweet Tea wasn't good , it tasted like metal from sitting in the container for too long and barely sweet and I don't like overly sweet tea. I asked the waitress about the Potato Salad and she said it was just a Mayo Potato Salad and I prefer the Mustard Potato Salad so I didn't get it. My son got the Smoky Chicken Griller which is sliced chicken, bacon, onions, pepper jack, and barbecue ranch, grilled on Texas toast. He got the barbecue ranch on the side and was glad he did since he didn't like it at all and I tried it and it was okay. He rated the sandwich as a 2 and I rated it a 5 and I would've used a little mayo on it instead of the barbecue ranch. He also got a Hot Ling on the side so we could try that. It was peppery and we both thought it was pretty good. We usually like the ones with jalapenos in it. They have 3 Bbq Sauces , Mild , Spicy , and Carolina Gold. I usually prefer a spicy bbq and sometimes if they have a sweet I will mix them together for brisket or baby back ribs. The spicy bbq sauce was not good. The mild was not bad and we preferred it to the other 2. The Carolina Gold as I stated before was like straight mustard with hardly a hint of vinegar or other spices. We spent over $60 with tip and felt cheated with the level of quality of the food here. I know Ribs are their specialty , but I can't imagine them being any good compared to everything we ate and they are St Louis Style , not Baby Back Ribs. I moved here last year and my son and his wife moved here 2 years ago and we have had a very hard time finding a good bbq restaurant in Oklahoma. Great Steaks , Onion Burgers , and Fried Chicken , but marginal bbq so far. I've been an Elite Reviewer for Yelp for 7 years and a regular reviewer for probably 2 years before that and I think I've only given 1 Star to one other restaurant in nearly 10 years. I'm sorry to do it , but we will never come back here and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Even the buffalo over the front door looked sad with spider webs and dust hanging from his nose and mouth.

It makes an entrance like it already knows you are going to talk about it later. The spice had attitude without turning into a stunt. Enough kick to wake everything up. Enough balance to keep it delicious instead of chaotic. Very confident. Very "I did not come here to be background sushi." The beef negimaki was absolutely the star. No debate. Tender. Savory. Glossy in that rich, almost dramatic way that makes you take one bite and immediately start guarding your plate. It had that perfect sweet-salty balance that makes a dish feel expensive even when you are trying to act casual about it. This was not just good. This was the kind of dish that makes the rest of the table look around like, wait, did we all order wrong? Full main character energy. Full Beyoncé walking on stage and everybody else suddenly remembering they are the opening act. The spicy tuna roll was fresh in the way you actually want sushi to be fresh. Clean flavor. Bright. Cool. Nicely balanced. Nothing fishy. Nothing tired. Just a roll that understood the assignment and executed. It did not need to be flashy because the freshness was doing all the talking. Very dependable. Very polished. The kind of bite that quietly reminds you why classics stay classics. And the staff? Amazing is actually the correct word. Warm from the start. Attentive the whole way through. On point without hovering. They made the entire experience feel easy, which is a real skill and not everybody has it. They were present. Helpful. Smooth. The kind of team that can make a dinner go from good to excellent just by knowing how to read the room. Real hospitality. Not fake nice. Not robotic. Just people who clearly know what they are doing and know how to make guests feel taken care of. Honestly, the staff were moving like a seasoned ensemble cast. Tight timing. Strong chemistry. No weak links. The atmosphere helped too. Lively without being too much. Comfortable without feeling boring. The kind of place where you can have a casual dinner, a cute date, or one of those meals where you say you are just grabbing something quick and then somehow stay way longer than planned.
