I sat at the bar and ordered a burger and fries, chicken wings, and onion rings. They had one cook, and he was pretty cool. This was definitely a "locals" bar, but the staff made me feel comfortable. The food took a while to come out, but when it did, it was fresh and hot. Everything tasted ok, but the burger and onion rings, which had been recommended by the bartender, were really good. The bar was well stocked, and the beer was cold. They had plenty of patio seating, and they host live music. The bar area and the bathrooms are in need of some TLC. Parking on Main Street can be a challenge. I went the next day to have a burger and onion rings, but they were out of onion rings. I settled for seasoned fries, which were ok.

I read someone else's review stating that the crust does not stay attached to the meat. I thought it might've been a one time thing... It wasn't.... The crust disconnects like a sock coming off a foot. Work on this. This is not right. The crust needs to be integrated into the meat. It's not supposed to be a sleeve fitting over the meat. It's not a jacket that the meat takes off once it sits down on the plate. And the meat is not tender. There's ligaments, veins, or whatever these little hard to cut stringy things holding the meat together are. There's too much trouble/shooting necessary on the CFS at Hondo's. Get the Cheeseburger instead.

The cheeseburger was juicy, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, especially with the bacon jam. The cilantro pesto pasta was outstanding, with fresh vegetables and perfectly cooked shrimp. We also loved the chicken schnitzel, the burrata, and the black bean hummus--everything tasted fresh, generous, and thoughtfully prepared. The menu does an excellent job showcasing Texas comfort food with creative, seasonal touches. And dessert was unforgettable. The croissant bread pudding and blackberry crumble were absolutely incredible--rich, comforting, and generous enough to share, although I wouldn't blame anyone for keeping them all to themselves. The drinks and Texas wine selection were equally impressive, and the peach margarita is a must-try. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Our server was attentive, personable, and offered excellent recommendations without ever being intrusive. Not hunger-inducing. More "urgent care with a fryer." There was no one there, which made sense--it was between brunch and lunch--but somehow the wait for food felt disproportionately long for what arrived. What arrived, sadly, was mediocrity wearing a Tex-Mex costume. They seemed to be aiming for Tex-Mex but landed somewhere closer to Tex-Flex--stretching flavors thin until they snapped. The barbacoa was fatty in a way that suggested less "slow-cooked tradition" and more "glistening regret." It didn't taste authentic, or even especially intentional. Just heavy. The guacamole--perhaps the most unforgivable offense--was bad. Guacamole is avocados, salt, lime, and love. That's it. This had none of the above. The waitstaff wasn't rude, exactly--just possessed by the clear energy of people who would prefer you to finish quickly so they could resume their real lives. Hospitality should feel like an invitation, not a countdown. Now, maybe the original Nurys is wonderful. I hope it is. But if that's the case, why open a second location only to phone it in? We had intended to stay for food, but instead we paid for the Prosecco my wife had already ordered and left. Hopefully this was simply an oversight and management addresses it, because something as basic as having soap available in a restaurant restroom--particularly one being used by food-service employees--is important.
