OMG the food is excellent. My wife loves Crash Landing on You and her friends told us about this place. The menu is a few Korean dishes and then a lot of fried chicken. I was expecting it to be like finger foods served at a bar but I was wrong. She ordered the regular chicken with the bones in and I got the boneless Secret Spicy chicken. I was expecting nugget size pieces for the boneless, but they were huge chucks of meat and a lot of them. We also ordered fish cake soup, steamed rice, and sweet potato fries. It was all really good quality and tasted amazing. They have a few lunch and also late night specials. I will definitely have to make another trip and try more of the menu. read more

Korean Fried Chicken. It's a VERY different animal than your Popeyes or KFC. In fact, if you say KFC, you will literally need to clarify that you're talking about Korean and not Kentucky. Korean fried chicken has a lighter batter and uses corn starch with their AP (All Purpose) flour in a 1 to 2 ratio. So the batter is light and fluffy and offers a better crunch that isn't so greasy or thick in terms of breading. This is what sets Korean fried Chicken apart from your Bojangles or Popeyes. Even the gourmet fried chicken from a bar or brewery is insane in terms of breading. But it is also hugely dependant on the oil that's used to fry up the bird parts which is what sets this place apart. According to Olive BBQ Chicken, they fry up their morsels using olive oil instead of the poison that is soybean or vegetable oil. In fact, vegetable oils are the leading cause of triglyceride build-up which is in fact what leads to heart disease so, up your animal fat intake because, vegetable oil will be the death of you! You've been warned. Olive oil isn't so bad compared to the hexanated veggie oil that we've been told. At any rate, this place has some of the most flavorful fried chicken I think I've ever tasted. The one I got was their Gangnam style chicken which is a sweet sauce tinged with hot peppers giving it a mild spicy kick but the savory sweetness makes this addicting to eat. For the Medium size which is $13 plus tax and tip, you get 10 wings which is amazing and these wings do not skip out on the meat!!! That's the fantastic part. The only gripe I have here is the wait time. Normal restaurants give you at most a 10 minute wait time from the moment your order is placed. I waited a good 20. BUT... when you're paying for a quality product, that takes time and the time it takes to fry up each order fresh does take time! You get what you pay for and with this place, you are getting quality. What is also cool is that it has a deep connection with the LA Korean food scene that made its way out here to the ATL! You can also find BBQ Olive Chicken on many popular YouTube Mukbangers who will eat loads of this chicken. So when I saw that on YouTube, then found this place I knew I needed to get some and I'm so glad I did!!! It is also the chain that global K-pop boyband sensation BTS also love when they hit the streets of Seoul! Come here and bring friends because this place is definitely worth grabbing a group and eating great fried chicken with! They offer beer on tap, soda drinks, and obviously water. Not gonna lie...the reason we saved this spot for last was because of Crash Landing On You (if you know, you know...I'm not gonna go into further details here, lol). We ordered the cheese sticks appetizer (basically mozzarella sticks served with ketchup) and a half and half chicken platter - half regular fried chicken, half "secret sauce" chicken. We collectively agreed that the regular (non-sauced) fried chicken was the better of the two - the skin was crispy and not too oily, the meat tender enough. The chicken with sauce wasn't as good (as you couldn't really taste the nice simplicity of the fried chicken at that point) and I personally wasn't too crazy about the ingredients used in the sauce, as the flavors were a bit off. Ordered: Golden olive chicken - boneless (their most popular dish) + coleslaw + cream corn + radish + Cheesling (golden olive chicken with cheese on top) + Ddeok Bokki (rice cake soup) + sweet potato fries + beef dumpling + half and half fried chicken - golden olive and special spicy sauce + coke + hite Ambience: near Gwinnett mall, tucked in a large plaza towards the corner. This particular plaza is a bit secluded or quiet but it's safe. The restaurant is open late like 11:30 most weeknights, fri and sat till midnight and sun till 10 pm. Neat and modern decor. K pop music playing in the background. A bit quieter inside. Although you have to wait to be seated, the restaurant has a quite casual feel. The booths have high dividers with bars on top, so you get some privacy. There are bells at the booths if you need the server's attention. Review: The service was really good. We got a chance to get to know the owner (Michelle), who has just opened this chain 2.5 months back and it's the 1,200th location. So definitely a popular spot. We got to try different items from the menu. I'll describe the items below: - Golden Olive Chicken: most popular dish and rightably so. It's the best item in our opinion. It's deep fried and crunchy. Of course it's deep fried, so expect it to be a bit oily. The flavor is really good. It tastes similar to American fried chicken but just a bit more organic. The meat is juicy inside. Very delicious. We got the medium size and it was very filling! You taste the corn and coleslaw with it and it compliments the fried chicken. - Ddeok Bokki: rice cake in soup sauce with a half boiled egg on top. The sauce is spicy. It has a kick to it. The portion size is pretty big and rice cakes can be filling. But it's great that they have a vegetarian option. - cheesling: golden olive chicken smothered in Parmesan cheese. It's tasty. There is a bit of a cheesy smell but otherwise very flavorful. The cheese brings a hint of sweet taste, which enhances the taste more. - beef dumpling: it's pan fried and very flavorful. The filling inside is of generous portion. I'd say the biggest thing about this place is the generous portion size. - half and half fried chicken:: great deal! We got half golden olive (which was so delicious) and special sauce (a bit sweet). So for testing purposes we got the hot sauce. This sauce has a bit of a kick. - sweet potato fries: it's hand cut fat fries. Maybe skinnier fries would have been good but nonetheless you can't go wrong with sweet potato fries. It has a very good balance of sweet and salty. - cream corn: it's got spices and flavors mixed in. Heavy on sauce but you'll have to move the top layer to start seeing the sauce. - coleslaw: slightly less sauce then expected but the coleslaw added good balance to all the deep fried food They serve can of Coke, draft beer and also korean beer. Decided to check this new place out despite all the bad reviews regarding service. Very clean restaurant with lots of seating. We were instantly greeted upon entering. The servers were very attentive and friendly. Ordered the half and half whole chicken. Olive chicken + secret spicy. Also got gangnam wings and fries. The food came out within 15 minutes or so. It was piping hot! Chicken was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Delish! Things got busy at the end but we used the table button and got a server to come and give us our check. It's a bit of a trek for people like me who live in Midtown, but I went with a couple of friends I haven't seen in a while, so it was great to catch up over fried chicken and beer. Plus, Duluth is filled with great restaurants, so I don't mind going up here. There are apparently over 5,000 of these restaurants in the world, and only about 20 in the US, which is insane that it's such a small percentage. They are also looking at opening 2 more locations in Atlanta, which is great for me, because the closer to Midtown they can be, the better aha. Or maybe for the worse, because their fried chicken was GREAT. And I can see myself being addicted. We got: _ Cheesling Boneless fried chicken with parmesan - this caught me by surprise. It was my least favorite of the four, but it was still good. The type of parmesan used reminded me of the kind used for parmesan popcorn. The main negative of this was that the parmesan dust instantly dried my mouth and got stuck to the roof of my mouth. But flavor wise, it was good. Half and Half - this came with the Olive Chicken and Spicy Chicken. _ Spicy chicken This was delicious, but was mild in spice. If you ate multiple of these in a row, the spice would build, which is great because you can still get the overall flavor of the chicken. If you like it really spicy, ask for extra sauce! _ Golden olive chicken Their signature. Truth be told, I didn't taste any hint of olive oil, but it was crispy AF. The outside was crispy and perfectly fried, while the inside was steaming hot and juicy. If I didn't have any expectation of olive, I would say this would be a pretty golden standard of how fried chicken should be - crispy, yet juicy. _ Soy Garlic It was sticky and covered in a delicious glaze, but surprisingly CRISPIER then the golden olive chicken. I didn't think it was possible. This one was absolutely addicting. And hands down, everyone's favorite. Though we were insanely full at the end, we all made sure this was the last piece of chicken that we ate, we loved it that much. Also, for snacks we got the fried mandu (dumplings), and the ddeok with hotdogs. The ddeok is housemade and grilled instead of the usual simmer, with a really nice kick. I think this may be my new favorite Korean chicken spot in ATL. Atlanta has been over saturating with Korean BBQ and Korean fried chicken restaurants. It was getting a little redundant but this place definitely stands out and the flavor very closely resembles the original Korean fried chicken in Korea. Love that they have a lot of choices for flavors and I will have to be back for more. Really loved the ones with the crunchy cereal coating (Surpfried). Bbq Olive Chicken is located on at the corner of Mall Blvd and Market Street in Duluth. We decided to check this place out during their soft opening. 11:30AM - We got here right as they opened. This restaurant is pretty spacious and good for large parties. The menu offers fried chicken and light snacks. After seeing a lot of my friends' Snapchat, we decided to order the half portion of Golden Olive Fried Chicken and Garlic Boneless Wings. The restaurant does not offer all dark meat or white meat. 12:10PM - Finally got our food. I wasn't too impressed with the Half portion fried chicken but my friend enjoyed it. On the other hand, his boneless wings came out pretty good. We get the bill and noticed this place DOES NOT OFFER FREE WATER. The menu clearly states $2 for Dasani bottled water and what we got were JUGs of Tap water. I'm willing to give this place a try 1 more time after Grand Opening. I might have given 4 stars, but I simply could not. The only reason was how slow I got my food. Because it is a new place, it is clean. The restroom was impressively clean and new. Also, as you expect from a newly opened a restaurant, it is super busy. We went there on Friday night, and yes, even considering the time, the place was definitely short staffed. I read a review that said that they brought the order out to your car and one could pay from there, but I ended up having to go inside. Guess they are done with that service. Anyway, I appreciated that the food and pay station were there as soon as you walk in (as opposed to in the back of the restaurant). I have to say that I prefer Choong Man over bb.q. Choong seems to me to be a bit more flavorful with their soy garlic sauce and I like the breading better. Also, the 1/2 order is bigger. This is one of my weekly spots. Ordering by phone is quick and easy. I usually get the Wings of Fire which are breaded and crunchy dipped in a slightly sweet hot sauce or the Gangnam Wings which aren't breaded but are still flavorful. You pull up curb side, give them a call, and they bring it out to your car. They also have a portable credit card reader so they don't even have to touch your card to take payment. I came in with high expectations after seeing raving reviews and seeing bbq olive chicken featured in Kdramas (shoutout to Crash Landing on You) Overall, the chicken was a bit disappointing. We ordered soy garlic chicken and tteokbokki. We ate in our car after getting take out in an attempt to experience maximum crunch from the chicken. The chicken was indeed crunchy but also burnt and dry on the outside. The flavor of the soy garlic was pretty good but it was overpowered by the burnt taste. The inside is pretty tender and juicy but was just too dry on the outside. The tteokbokki was spicier than I was expecting but much better than the chicken. The radish side dish was also average, nothing too special and on the saltier side. Servers were very nice so I'd bump the rating up from 2 to 3 stars. There was plexiglass separating customers from the cashier as well hand sanitizer available. They don't allow for indoor dining and Covid protocols are properly enforced. read more

This is one of my go-to korean fried chicken spots in Duluth, GA. Being stuck at home in Atlanta riding out Quarantine left me with some limited food cravings but thankfully, being so close to the korean food capital of Atlanta makes this super easy. I really like how this establishment is handling COVD - you can call in your order and they will deliver it to your car upon arrival with confirmation I believe by phone number. We ordered the spicy ricecake (dukbokki), slaw, and one whole fried chicken (original) as well as wings. PROS: - great quantity: chicken and food came out super hot (minus slaw). - fantastic flavor in the breading which was extra crispy - could add cheese to the spicy rice cakes which was an added plus. CONS: - this is no fault of the establishment but rather COVID: the chicken got slightly soggy and the sauce for the spicy ricecakes got a little "thickened" during the ride home. I definitely recommend going there, driving to a parking lot somewhere, and eating this with the windows rolled down once you get it if possible. The chicken will reheat well thankfully in a toaster oven or if you wanted to flash fry it again, but honestly, parking lot is the way to go! I'm honestly so disappointed in this place. I called them and ordered their secret spicy boneless chicken. It tasted terrible, it was so sweet that I felt like I was eating a dessert. I could taste less chicken and more sweet sauce. The person who picked up the phone should have mentioned that the secret "spicy" chicken is actually sweet instead of spicy. When I called them asking for a replacement of order, they said they simply couldn't do it and wanted to offer me hot sauce. But it's already drenched with sweet sauce, so I didn't want to add more sauce to it. It was a waste of $20. The rice cake was dry and they only give a few pieces of sausages (nothing like the pictures).
