I have been to three different bb.q chickens in the DFW area and this is my least favorite experience. As a franchise, you would think they would be comparable but I ordered the cheesling fries and they were disappointing. They were a small portion, not much cheese and had some drizzle on them, which i have never seen before, with green onion pieces. The chicken tasted ok but they skimped on the sauce. With the amount of Korean food including other chicken places in the immediate vicinity, i don't see the appeal of this place. I took a friend for his first time and had talked up the cheesling fries and was disappointed in that too. Again, chicken was ok but probably won't return with all the other places around. McD's isn't successful because they are great, they are successful because you know what you are getting. Not really comparing the two in taste but in consistency of product. First off, the chicken is really good. It's why I keep coming back even though it is so expensive. I just checked and it is actually 43.6% more expensive per wing than Wingstop. That's pretty insane. The reason I bring this up isn't because I'm comparing the two places, because I can tell you that BBQ's chicken is sooo much better. I bring it up because I'm pointing out that their margins are great, which is relevant to the latter part of this review. My poor rating of BBQ is actually due to a side order. My 3 year old daughter didn't want the original chicken because it has a little spice. She also couldn't eat the spicy wings we ordered, so we ordered her some cheese sticks. These cheese sticks used to be $4, but I get it, costs for everything have gone up. So we got our $7 cheese sticks, but they served it with ketchup, which I haven't seen before so I asked if they had marinara sauce. They didn't, but they said they had ranch, so I said great, please exchange it out. The server then tells me they have to charge me for the ranch. I explain that I don't want the ketchup, that we can swap it, because every order of cheese sticks I've ever had has been with either marinara or ranch (sometimes both). He then says to me, "You haven't had it with ketchup before? Well, that's how we serve it. You have to pay extra for ranch." So I'm paying $60.51 for fried chicken for 2 people and $7.58 for frozen cheese sticks, and you're going to gouge me for extra dollar to replace my ketchup with ranch??? I come to BBQ knowing that I'm going to overpay for chicken, but I refuse to accept $1 replacement ranch for $7 cheese sticks. Just can't do it on principle. Hmm? They changed their chicken recipe, I think. The chicken isn't as crunchy as before, and the meat they cater from must be different as well. I prefer the previous meat they got. This new meat is too flat, tasting like chicken tenders than "nuggets". The old recipe used chicken pieces that tasted like they actually cut parts from the chicken to fry up. This new one tastes like GMO-breast-meat-only kind of deal. The cheesling seasoning is also less and absorbs into the frying oil rather than being generously coated like before. I didn't feel good paying $18 for 8 pieces of a new recipe. It wasn't bad.. but it wasn't as good as before, you know? Thus, I might have to say that this will be my last time eating here. Something was off about this sauce that it was doused in.... my girl said it had a bit of a fish oil taste to it. - Waffle Fries (9/10): The waffle fries were amazing and nice and crispy!! This was probably my most favorite thing here. The server also recommended the waffle fries as well. Since others have said good things about this place, I will definitely come back and try the food again with different flavors. But the ones we got, I would not order again. The original bone in chicken is simple and tasty. It's fried in olive oil and is light and crispy. The soy garlic is a close second favorite. These wings somehow stay crispy the most. The garlic flavor really comes through. I've also tried the Gangnam style flavor which is also tasty. They include a side of radishes with your order. I have not yet dined in and have opted to pick up my order to go on two occasions. The staff is always friendly on the phone and in person. I kinda wish they were closer to my home, but then again, it's probably better for me that they're not. I would get into too much trouble. Definitely give this place a try if you're into KFC.
