Something about dining at the mall on a rainy day just hits. Came in today looking to escape the rain and remembered the restaurant located on the second floor of the Nordstroms. Bazille has been around a long time and I was feeling eager to give this location a try. Came in close to opening for lunch and it wasn't too busy. About four tables full but throughout my time dining in it definitely did get more busy. Who would have known a department store restaurant could be so busy? My cocktail and food were really good. I ordered simple items mind you, but they definitely hit and tasted great. I went with the seasonal cranberry Bliss cocktail with gin and Prosecco, very refreshing and tasty with the hints of cranberry and cinnamon. To start I had their crab bisque which everyone raves about and it is definitely delicious. I wish there were some significant lumps of crab in the soup, but I get that this isn't some high-end restaurant so they get a pass. The flavor was definitely there and the little bread that they serve with made a perfect accompaniment. I was disappointed as I came for a French dip sandwich, but they were out... Not good news on a Friday at lunchtime, but sometimes that's just the way it goes. The menu wasn't speaking to me as I had come pretty much for the sandwich so I ended up just grabbing some fries so I could nibble. Despite being disappointed that I couldn't get the sandwich the french fries were tasty. Crispy and skinny just like I like them and they served them with ketchup and a great olive sauce/aioli. I'd say the cocktail and food were easily a 5/5. Tasty simple stuff but done well. My server was also extremely friendly and nice throughout my dining experience which helped. I actually think the main issue was the kitchen... There were long gaps where food wasn't coming out and honestly, the pacing of the food was very slow. For example, I didn't get the french fries until 45 minutes in. I'd come in expecting a quick lunch and honestly for such simple foods. Everything took way too long. I know the server noticed this and was apologetic, I assured him it was fine because I could tell it was out of his control, but definitely not the best dining experience. I think this trip was more a 3/5 stars BUT I bumped them up because my meal was very enjoyable and the service was nice. Seems like it was just an off day in the kitchen and given how busy the place was that must not be usual for them if they're getting in these kinds of crowds on a rainy day. We ate here about a month ago and I forgot to leave a review. You may not expect a department store to have great food, but I had one of the best skirt steak and eggs I have ever had. The food was delivered to us by the Chef /Manager who was very personable and took such pride in her job. She came back part way through our meal and asked if we were enjoying our meal. She seemed truly grateful that we were there! The steak was one of the most perfectly cooked and tasty steaks I gave ever had. I have tried to recreate it at home, but it couldn't compare. My Sister and I decided to visit this Bazille restaurant located inside of Nordstrom at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks for a light dinner and we were not disappointed. Our Server Natalia was excellent and always made sure we were well taken care of. This location sadly wasn't too busy on a Saturday night compared to the Bazille at Westfield Valley Fair which we frequently visit. We ordered and shared the Crab Mango Avocado Salad and it was delicious, perfectly dressed with their vinaigrette. Cilantro Lime Mini Taco's a very nice side and we also loved the perfectly spicy and sweet Kung Pao Brussel Sprouts. This Bazille was very low key and peaceful just like the Mall it was located in. Killed my Mother's Day. Was told that we were too early twice by the hostess and manager in not a nice way. Then they seat us after making us wait an additional 10 minutes after there opening time. There is no one in the restaurant but ask us if we have a reservation which I did but NO One is there. Then we get seated at 11:00 am to their normal dinner menu. No change for brunch or Mother's Day. They literally killed Mother's Day for me. Between the off putting you can't come in to making us wait another 10 minutes to having the same dinner menu as always. read more

Great spot for lunch located in Nordstrom. Started off with the Amelia cocktail. It's a great blend of sweet with a touch the citrus. Highly recommend. As a starter, I had the Ginger Sesame salad minus the crispy wontons. It was a little heavy on the dressing, but I didn't mind that! For entrees, I had the Portobello Mushroom ravioli. This is probably one of my favorite dishes here! It's creamy, savory, and the tomato gives it the perfect acidic touch to compliment the dish. I also had the Chef's steak and subbed out the fries for a Caesar salad. I deducted one star because the filet came out well done even though I had asked for medium rare. Service was great. My server was attentive, even though he seemed to be the only one on. Ambiance is excellent as well. Booth seats are the way to go, but they fill pretty quickly if you get here during peak hours and rushes. Will be back next time their menu gets a seasonal update!! read more

I used to love this place when it had a tapas-style menu. Somehow it seems to have kind of retained its food flavors but that's about all. It's looking a little dated. The wait staff seemed to be off their game. Our server was professional, but not hospitable. He didn't make me feel welcome at all. It's almost like I was putting him out. I ordered the crab bisque, it tasted more like a tomato bisque to me. Could not get any flavor or taste of crab at all. The Salmon Niçoise Salad was perfectly seasoned and well tossed. I loved the tang of the capers. However, the salmon itself was over cooked and completely underseasoned. If you look at the salmon in the picture, you think that that's got to be a flavor bomb! But sadly, it was severely lacking and actually quite bland. They didn't have salt and pepper on the table. I asked for pepper for my soup, and the waiter brought me cracked pepper. When my salmon dish came out, and I asked for pepper again, the person who brought my dish, not the same person who was taking care of our table , brought me little packets of pepper?? What?? In restaurants where the food is delivered by someone other than the person who takes your order, I have noticed that the original server will come back and check to make sure that everything is looking good even before you've really dug into your food. That did not happen here. I had to wait till our server came back to check on us to inquire if I could have fresh cracked pepper. Usually, as soon as we would get our meals, the server would come and ask if we would like some fresh cracked pepper. read more

I'm in the midst of a dilemma. I've found a hidden in plain sight joint that I enjoy immensely, and I want to share my thoughts with you about it, but I kinda want to keep it for myself. Selfish, I know. If I keep it under wraps, that may help me get a table any time I want, but if the place fails because no one knows about it, then what? No table for me. Selfish, I know. So, I'm writing this for me, not you. Selfish, I know. Who eats at a restaurant in a department store? I do. Selfish, I know. Bazille is a temple of elevated comfort food located in the Nordstrom's department store. My wife and I have dined at the Thousand Oaks location dozens of times. We're quite discerning when it comes to what settles on our palate. You don't feel as if you are in a department store when you enter. The bar area has plenty of comfy seats and a couple of televisions are always tuned to the sports event du jour. Pro tip: If you're in the mood for a libation, seek out Assistant Restaurant Manager, Julian Grajczak and request that he (and no one else!!!) make you an expresso martini. Stunningly delicious. It may be a bit pricey for some, but I am SO willing to pay for that pleasure! Gotta say, the servers are wonderfully friendly, menu knowledgeable, and spectacularly accommodating without being cloying. These folks are true pros. While we've tried quite a few dishes over the time we've been going there, there are a few that we just cannot get enough of, so we tend to order the same bunch of dishes repeatedly. Thanks to the steady hand of Head Chef Leanne Niece and her fantastic team, the food is always fresh, the presentation is always flawless, and tastes like what you would make at home for your demanding parents, if you only knew how. Pro tip: Try to ask for Chef Leanne when you're in her house. Make sure you meet her. She has a deep well of expertise and loves to meet her guests when she can. Pro tip (continued): Same goes for Julian. We love speaking with these people. They care about our satisfaction. They care about our comfort. They care about the quality of their food. Kind of refreshing, if you ask me. I'm always tortured when we sit down at one of the booths or plentiful tables to order. I just cannot seem to make up my mind... For me, the French Dip sandwich is my usual go-to. They use Angus beef, sharp white cheddar, on a parmesan baguette along with a healthy side of au jus. The beef is tender, and there's just the right amount of cheese. As you probably know, dipping is de rigueur. You won't break a tooth on the baguette, either. Don't forget the fries! They are seasoned perfectly, crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. I LOVE this sandwich. Pro Tip: Ask for the sandwich on a brioche bun if you desire a slightly softer experience. Also, if you like your fries a little crispier, they do a wonderful job with that request. I have another go-to that elbows its way into my decision making process - the 7 ounce Skirt Steak. Always in the shadow of the more well known cuts, but not here. Shall we say a star is born? Indeed! The dish comes with the steak sliced for you, and it shares the plate with roasted fingerling potatoes, asparagus and Calabrian chili butter. These sides are done perfectly and spiced perfectly. You would be foolish to substitute anything in place of the potatoes and asparagus. Just sayin'. Pro Tip: You want the steak prepared medium. Even if you like your meat rare or medium rare, not a good idea with a skirt steak. I'm also a sucker for their Heirloom Tomatoes and Burrata salad. I love heirloom tomatoes and burrata cheese. I would order it anywhere. Their version comes with grilled sourdough croutons, EVOO, balsamic vinegar and basil pesto. How could you not love this? Pro Tip: The balsamic vinegar is creamy, on the thick side and delightfully sweet. Order this dish with a bit less balsamic vinegar if you want to bring out more of the taste of the basil pesto and EVOO. I cannot get enough of their Roma Tomato Basil Soup. Talk about comfort food! Great for those rainy, overcast days we're experiencing at the moment. So rich and flavorful, you almost don't want to share it with anyone else. Selfish, I know. While my wife sneaks bites of all the dishes mentioned above, she is quite partial to the Crab, Mango and Avocado salad. This salad features jumbo lump crabmeat, baby arugula, cucumber, heirloom tomatoes, red onion, cilantro lime vinaigrette with a toasted baguette. You can actually see the lump crab in the dish (!!!) One last thing - make sure you ask for the rolls. They come to the table hot. Pro Tip: You'll want to ask for more. I do. Selfish, I know. I'm slowly working my way through the menu, and I haven't hit a pothole yet. This place delivers on every level. Oh, yeah, we're going back to Bazille tomorrow. Really more like 3.5 stars, but am feeling generous because our food was so good. Our server was also great. The main let downs were the stuffy atmosphere, and overly high prices. Several of the servers looked like they were taking a break from Beverly Hills - an attempt to elevate the 'burbs? It just felt off. Things are pretty casual in Thousand Oaks. Not that we can't use a dash of style, but sometimes the impression of trying-too-hard makes a dining (or shopping) experience feel off / forced. On the other hand, the interior design of the restaurant did feel off to me. Like they were trying to emulate an upscale hotel bar kind of a vibe. What was lacking was any kind of wow factor, or visual interest space. We met our dear friends at The Oaks to check out several pop up stores, and landed on Bazille to eat a late lunch and have a quiet place to visit for a while. Lazy Dog can be too hectic for the kind of catch-up chat we were craving. Though the place was more than half empty, they made us wait for a table, which was slightly off putting. Thankfully, our server was a professional with a great attitude. The tri tip dip sandwich with french fries and kalamata olive aïoli was enough for Dear Hubby and me to share. It was on the high side at almost $20. The fries were the skinny kind, seasoned to perfection. As another Yelper has suggested, they will likely be in trouble when Wood Ranch opens. They are normally served with a delectable crispy shell. But they also offer a Lettuce Wrapped option which is equally as tasty. Tip: Ask for their Yellowbird Jalapeño Hot Sauce to give it an extra kick of amazing flavor!! Another amazing meal is their Cilantro Lime Salad. Very fresh and tasty. My daughter and I decided The Oaks Mall was a perfect outting on a rainy day. We usually go to Lazy Dog or Cheesecake so decided to try something else...Cafe was moderately occupied, very clean. We were sat immediately. The drinks were very well made (Berry Mule and a citrus mocktail) and delicious! We ordered two luncheon salads (Asian skirt steak and salmon Caesar) and a side of fries to share. Steak salad was epic! Fries were crispy and hot daughter said the Caesar was excellent but the salmon was not great and asked me to taste it. The salmon tasted overcooked and almost like it had been reheated. I love this place! Today, as in right now, I was disgusted. Two ladies came im one with her Pomeranian dog and the lady proceeded to let her dog drink from a cup of water, a glass cup! Im all for animals I love them and have them as well. That doggy drinking from the glass cup was just not ok! The doggy has no service animal vest or anything! We decided to try this place the other day and it was delicious! They have outdoor seating available and it's Ventura County, so there aren't as many people as in LA. The hostess was super sweet and accommodating. A little on the pricier side, but the ingredients and food is bomb. We ordered the Chicken Lime Tacos appetizer. Came with two small loaded tacos for $7. Delicious, crunchy and amazing. We ordered the cilantro lime shrimp salad and split it. Marvelous! The crispy tortillas, the shrimp was on point and not gross, and they split it in two. That was around $19. We also got the crab bisque but something must have went wrong because it tasted like i was eating a spoonful of salt. Now, I can handle salt but this must have been a fluke accident or something because everything else was delicious. They were nice about it and took it back. Will definitely come back! Who would have thought that Nordstroms was hiding a gem?? Cocktails were strong, great flavor and on point. Ordered the Salmon dish and it did not disappoint. I ate every single bite. My partner in crime ordered the fish and chips. Lightly battered, not greasy, fatty fish, everything you want in fish and chips. We finished with the white chocolate bread pudding and it was amazing. The white chocolate sauce was a little sweet but the bread pudding was just right. Will definitely return. Can't wait read more

Depends because still of COVID/-19 with masking wearing. Basically, I was there since the other place I wanted was closed. In which also included everything being more on the full price side of things. Since this is considered more full service and not fat service. A friend and I came here to celebrate her birthday and this was our second time here, at this particular location. I have to say the fish and chips were wonderful, not greasy and crispy. We both love them and shared, with each having a cup of soup on the side. The special was barley steak soup and although delicious, there was literally one very small piece of steak, hence the reason I removed one star. They would be better off just calling it barley soup! But the main draw is our favorite waiter. Do I have to share his name? As it was, when we got there with a request for his section, there were only 3 tables filled (it was early) and all in his section. He is not only kind but funny, sweet, professional and very accommodating. It is a pleasure to have him serving! (I am changing this review to 5 stars and hoping Bazille will be alerted to the lack of steak in the soup, but i don't think that's not a reason to punish them with 4 stars! read more
