San Diego has taken a downturn in the last handful of years and it's no longer as clean/safe/lively as it once was. So taking it in from across the water in Coronado.. perfect! The park is a lovely way to enjoy Coronado -- away from the hype of the Del and away from the typical beach. I was able to witness a beautiful proposal in the park, and also saw lots of folks just enjoying a picnic, a photo sesh, a wander about, etc. The park is nestled near a small beach and also the buzz of the ferry landing with its restaurants and tourist shops. We plopped down a blanket by the path under a palm tree, about 10 feet from the water. The weather was perfect. There was a steady flow of people on bikes, kayaks and paddle boards. We enjoyed it not being crowded at all. It was almost perfect. The only con was there were lots of prickly spiky seed pods and fire red ants in the sand. We moved the blanket but we wanted to be in the shade. We will come back when it's cooler and settle down closer to the water.

The park is gated and safe for kids. Our son loved the playground. The park is across from The Children's Museum. They also have public bathrooms available with security. The park was nice and clean. The dog park is next to the Children's Park. - parking sucks if you don't live in the area - park is small and there is no divide between big and small dogs, one park fits all Owners here are very respectful. They have agility climbing structure. It can get a little crowded and rowdy when the big dog packs like to dominate, there is seating but no shade. It's turf, no grass or dirt. We like coming here when we are in the area roaming the waterfront.

Its gentle sloping sidewalk was perfect for skating or biking. The old corkscrew slide provided endless hours of entertainment ( as long as your brought your own wax paper). The large grass field was perfect for games of touch-football. The large palm tree palms were perfect for grabbing and swinging around.. The park hasn't changed much sine then, though they did get rid of the "unsafe" slide years ago. I guess the only major difference is all the weird traffic control the city installed along Pomona which is so bizarre. Safer? maybe.. Now my kids always want to play at Pomona park when we visit family... Its so nice to see that.

However, beyond the large field, and a small play structure in the corner, there is not much else.

After the SD Writers Festival and then grabbing a slice and a beer on the main strip, I strolled over here to enjoy the last rays of the day. It is just gorgeous and breathtaking. I sat far back today, sitting on some rocks, ear buds in listening to my favorite playlist and just meditating while Mother Nature put on her beautiful sunset show for us. Come out here and enjoy the fun shops and restaurants nearby and spend some time with nature. Your heart and mind will thank you later.
