DO BETTER..... you couldn't possibly do worse. FUBAR alone describes this place. I gave them a second chance & it was the worst decision of my life. We waited over 2 HOURS & still no food.
Our waitress, who never gave her name, was entirely indifferent & ignored us all night. We watched as at least 3 tables sat after us ate & left. My child was starving after fun on the beach & this place was radiation burn. We were sat after a 15min wait, no biggie. Another 20mins to take our drink order... okay... COVID. 10mins later she returns to retake our drink order at which time we also ordered food... give her a break, maybe it's pregnancy brain. Another 10mins for 2 sodas & a promise my tea was on its way. "Okay, great, thank you!" (No reply from her whatsoever) 10mins later she sets down hot water & cup without saying a word & walks away. After trying to get her attention as she wandered around we had to call out to her. In the next 10 mins she walked out twice to bring drinks to tables....My water is reforming into an iceberg. She finally walks over with silverware & I ask for my tea bag & she acts annoyed AT ME. Similarly, she brought silverware for 2, not 3. Moments later our pretzel app arrives & she follows behind with my tea bag. I didn't even dare to ask for new water. The next hour we are pretty much ignored. We watch as other tables come & go. Our server walks past us & our dirty pretzel plate neatly at the corner of the table to pick up a dirty dish on the table next to us. My child is shivering since the sun that was shining bright & warm when we arrived has now set & gone. I am holding her next to me under my sweater for warmth. Several other tables have asked us if we were okay & what was taking so long. All we have been told was that "a large to-go order was placed & they have to deliver within 40mins, & all I do is put the orders in". No apologies. No offer for another app. Not even an offer to refill the sodas until 2 full hours had passed. 10mins after the refill offer & another table that sat down after us ate & left, I pulled out my wallet to pay for our drinks & leave. Mind you- I have never left a restaurant without even being served before. I am the annoying person that tells others to be understanding & give people a chance- we all have bad days, right? Now she actually walks to our table without having to call for her (a miracle) & tells us our food is going in right now. I just looked at her as I set two $10 bills down & said "I really don't want it anymore" to which she says "I understand" in that tone that really says "Good. I don't care & just want to go home anyway". At this point my mom cannot take her attitude anymore & confronts her about our 2HR WAIT. She blames it all on the kitchen. This is when I took over explaining how we have eyes... & other tables that sat & ordered after us have THEIR PIZZA, so I'm not buying the whole full pizza oven story. She didn't communicate with us, didn't offer anything to tide us over, ignored us repeatedly & let our app come out before I could get a tea bag. To which she rolled her eyes with "well, apps don't take very long". I responded with "neither do tea bags" & walked away as someone did 2 high-pitch whistles to get our attention. We did not turn around & respond to their disrespect.
Now, I'd love to say we caught them on a bad day. Except in good conscience I cannot. Over a year ago we came in a large party with a reservation & had to wait 40 mins to sit down. That night half our table had eaten before the other half even got food. When my husband received the wrong pizza and we asked for it to be corrected we were told we'd have to pay for it. Now, we never touched the wrong pizza, so why on earth would we have to pay for our corrected pizza? Our server didn't know why, either, just that's what she was told to tell us.
So, in summation, if you read other reviews here, as well as other platforms, you'll see that management only replies to 5star reviews because they don't care to read lesser reviews & learn something, local cronies are the ones that get the great service since they know the waitstaff personally, & overall this restaurant just doesn't care about the rest of us.
So thank you, Bayside, for being a REAL BACKSIDE & souring the end of what was a beautiful tri-generation day at the beach & ruining a bday party last year. Thank you for forcing my young child to go hungry & end up eating fast food after what would normally be her bed time. Thank you for reminding me that just because people have a reason to be awful (COVID, life stressors, etc) doesn't excuse their behaviours. Thank you for teaching me to say "enough is enough" sooner, so I won't have to drive home with tears in the eyes of those I love most because they felt so humiliated & invisible by the treatment of your indifferent staff & management.
