I became a client of Grand Canyon Planning in 2012, I was recently divorced and wanted a new financial planner to advise me and grow my money. I met with John Dombrowski and we developed a plan to accomplish these goals. First and foremost, communication--or lack thereof--is appalling. After our initial meetings, I was promised regular updates and check-ins regarding my investments as is customary with most planners. This has not been the case; I have NEVER once heard from him in the more than twelve years since the day I signed the papers. I called him about five years after I signed the papers and asked about my investments, about ten years ago and he had no explanation for the complete lack of communication but offered a flimsy apology. I then moved the funds from two accounts to a different planner who has been an absolute rockstar, making me terrific returns. After that call with John, I never heard from him again even though he promised he would stay in touch with me. I have one remaining product with him, an annuity that has been locked in and I was unable to move until now. I am in the process of moving it to my planner as I write this review, I must pay a nominal penalty which I am happy to do and will make up in just a couple of months. John is the only one that benefitted from this product, I certainly have not. I would use the word abysmal to describe the choices John recommended. If you're looking for someone who prioritizes your financial future and maintains clear communication, look elsewhere.

My wife and I recently paid off a vehicle loan with TruWest Credit Union, and this was the most…read moredifficult loan payoff experience we have ever had. We contacted them to request a payoff amount and were provided a specific figure. We then transferred that exact amount from our external checking accounts with the understanding that it would be applied directly to the loan. Instead, the funds were placed into a savings account rather than applied to the loan, and the loan continued to accrue interest. From there, the process became unnecessarily complicated. We had to make multiple follow-up calls, deal with excessive and redundant verification requests, and essentially guide the process ourselves to get the payoff completed correctly. At one point, due to how the transactions were handled, funds were pulled incorrectly, resulting in overdraft fees from both my bank and TruWest. While both institutions ultimately waived those fees, we still had to spend additional time and effort resolving something that should never have happened. Even after we clearly stated that the loan needed to be paid off, the funds still were not applied correctly without further intervention. Only after continued follow-up did they finally apply the funds properly and agree to backdate the payoff to prevent additional interest from being charged. This is the first time I've ever had this much difficulty paying off a vehicle loan. This created unnecessary stress and wasted time for something that should have been routine. In the end, the loan was paid off, but the amount of effort required on our part to ensure it was handled correctly was far beyond what should be expected. I would strongly recommend that anyone working with TruWest closely monitor their accounts and verify that transactions are applied exactly as intended.
