Food is delicious. Came here several years ago while working in area when the were located near the Hampton INN on south street. I was looking forward to eating here again. The decor is not fancy, the food is defiantly good! Portion size is above average. Price is fair. Being a road warrior and traveling as I do, taste out weights decor anytime. We drove from Lufkin to check this place out and I must say the blackened fish lived up to my expectations. The service was good! The servers were very attentive. Food: delicious and cooked very well We were a pretty large group of 10 and the only people in the restaurant at the time. All grilled or blackened items came out very quickly and the fried items had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes. Bathroom was horrendous! Throwing used tissue into the trash can... NO! Now I know that I live in a landlocked town in TX, but I didn't expect my seafood dinner to be so horrible to the point that my husband and I were ill last night and my husband is hardly ever ill. What should have had bells ringing off for me was that the seafood had a strong fishy smell and good seafood should smell like the ocean when fresh it doesn't have an odor which by the way my car and home reeks now, I will be scrubbing for days to get this stench out. Family came here spontaneously during a college tour. Food was so good! We ordered the fried scallops, fried catfish, and boiled shrimp. We live in DFW and this was the best seafood I've had in a long time. Waitress was wonderful and gave us pointers. Next visit we will get the gumbo! We came here based on a friends recommendation, otherwise we might have overlooked it based on location. I got one of their fried seafood platters and it was delicious. Some of the best seafood I've had in a while this far from the coast. I ordered around 7:00 pm on DoorDash for a pickup order from this restaurant. Waited two hours for a pickup order and it said order waiting for confirmation the whole time and then finally at 8:35 it said order completed , so I went to the restaurant to pick it up . I arrived there at 8:45, the store hours on the door and online say they close at 9. When I walked in the lady was very rude and said "we're closed!" With a dirty look on her face. So already it doesn't make since that she told me that when they close at 9pm, 7days a week. And so very politely I was like "oh I had a mobile online order that I ordered at 7pm and just said it was completed at 8:35pm" Then with a major attitude she said they never even received the order. I showed her the order on my phone and she still said they never received it and had a big attitude. I understand that door dash might have been the issue and that they didn't receive the order, but I didn't deserve to be treated that way . It wasn't my fault. I work as a manager in the food industry and that's not how you treat your customers. Not even a sorry . So then I had to go thru the app and help and get refund by saying I never received order. I had just got off a 14 hour shift and Im starving and just wanted some dinner, this is how I was treated. and now everywhere (that isn't fast food) was closed and I couldnt get a decent dinner . This place use to be really good, but it's recently fallen off. They use to have thick flavorful pieces of fish and now every cut looks like tilapia. I came here today in search of something new so I went for the 6shrimp and 6 oyster platter. Idk if this is just how fried oysters taste, but never again. It had the consistency of boiled egg yolk and it tasted like the bottom of the ocean. I dont know if that's how they're suppose to taste cause I've never had them but I'll certainly never get them again. On top of having to cancel the oysters, my fries crunched like they had been dropped on the floor. As a child, I made plenty of mud pies so believe me when I say I know when I'm crunching on dirt. I'm so upset w the way this order came out, I thought about calling to complain, then decided it wasn't even worth the argument and I just wouldn't go back. I forgot to mention one of the oddest occurrences I've witnessed. While ordering the bland catfish, our waitress made a strange noise, held her hand up to her mouth and said, "My diet pill's kickin' in." ...and then continued to take our order. Before they relocated to the University Street location, the portions were large and tasty. I stopped by for a to-go order and was very displeased with what I got for the money spent. This will be my last time to go here for our "fix on fish"! The portions are much smaller than they ever were at their former location. I got two orders of five pieces and was not impressed with the taste or portion. It's like they forgot the fries.....we had to look hard to find the few in the boxes. The place WAS clean and the hostess who took my order was very friendly. It was around the noon hour when I placed my order and there was no one in the place until I got mine and was leaving when a couple of guys walked in.
