LAsolar installed panels about 5 years ago. On Monday, 2 days before Christmas, I got an email warning that the Gateway had stopped communicating. After following video instructions and speaking with the manufacturer of the gateway, I was told I needed to contact the installer of the system (LASolar). LASolar's offices were closed Christmas Eve, so I wrote an email. I heard back the day after Christmas and after speaking with a customer service person, it was determined that a tech needed to come out. I feared the worst since it's the holiday season, but an appointment was made for Monday, December 30 and the technician calmly solved the problem. I can't keep my 5-star review up after going through a leak claim process using their "25 Year Roof and Penetrations" warranty. I'm currently writing this review with a hole in my master closet and water leaking through it with rain currently happening. Too long didn't read: LA Solar Groups Roofers and Customer Service ghosted me, leaving me with a leak to deal with on my own. No-shows appointment, with no explanation after several assurances and asking me to re-confirm for another appointment a week out and with 5 days of heavy rain from now until then. I notified LA Solar of this leak 4 days ago, on a Thursday. I had my third-party roofer come out to take a look on the same day, stating that this leak was caused by the solar company (LA Solar Group) and that to contact them for the fix. I warned them that rain was coming the following Monday evening and Tuesday all day. On that same Thursday, I was told by Customer Service (named Amethyst) that someone would come out that tomorrow (Friday). The next day to follow up, I reached out to Customer Service once again, this time someone by the name of Candice, she stated the person giving the information yesterday was incorrect, that no one will be showing up today (Friday) that Amethyst was new and actually mean the case will be reviewed on Friday. Candice stated that she was going to expedite this case and to send photos to Customer Service and Roofing. The same day, after no answers after sending photos the morning of and after finally getting a hold of someone, they stated to look out for a text to schedule me in for Monday 01/09. I kindly ask if at any all possible, to send someone out the same day on Thursday 01/06. The gentlemen by the name of Jack stated their roofers were in Pomona and might be able to but no promises and will contact me back. I notified them that it WILL be raining on Monday and Tuesday so it's cutting it really close. Later that Friday at 3:19 PM, no word back from Jack to have the roofers come by from Pomona, I received a text requesting me to confirm for a scheduled visit for Monday 01/09. Awesome! I reiterated that to please confirm that if they come out and are unable to repair it in a timely matter to patch it up so that damage will not further be caused. Monday morning rolls by, the day of my supposed scheduled appointment date. I call in to Customer Service and spoke to Sophia, she transferred me to someone and they assured me that someone will be coming out later today (Monday afternoon). The afternoon rolls by and no calls, text or anything. A little worried since rain is in the forecast tonight, I phone back. Once again, they assured me that someone will be out and I am their last appointment for the day. 4:12 PM that same Friday, I get a text from the same Customer Service line that originally confirmed me for 01/09 is now confirming if I'm available for 01/16, the following Monday. That's 7 whole days with no explanation of why I'm being bumped. That's 5 days of rain and thunder storms in between now and when they're supposedly going to come out. This is unacceptable. Avoid LA Solar Group as much as possible. This was my second property I've had LA Solar Group work on, there was no issues up until now. You'll immediately get a human to speak to when pressing "1" for sales in a rainbow of languages but good luck attempting to reach anyone in support or roofing, scheduling, monitoring with any answer if you happen to even reach them.. after calling over a dozen times and leaving multiple messages, emails and text. I can only emphasize what other one-star reviews have said: very slow, no communication unless you are talking to a sales person, no incentive to actually finish the job or fulfill their promises. Our story: we signed a contract to get solar installed November 2022 (now almost 13 months as of this time). Permitting took until January or so and was relatively straightforward. Then... nothing. It took until May to actually get a crew to come and do the installation, including almost a month break in between with panels just lying around on the roof. No problem with the actual crew which seemed competent and nice, but it apparently this is how they schedule stuff. It's now December, 6 months after the actual installation and LA Solar *still* has not managed to actually get the local inspection done, but failed once due to a minor problem months ago. Anytime we talk to them, they promise me a date for the inspection, the date comes and nobody even shows up. We've already been making payments on the solar loan, and we're now down thousands of dollars because of LA solar's delays. Had we known this, it would likely have been cheaper to hire a more expensive local company and pay more up front, but have an actual solar system at some point. read more

Update (10 months and still not complete) - Do not hire this company! We FINALLY got them to install the panels and wrap up the work on the trench. They are much more likely to respond to your calls if you write a bad yelp review, turns out. It took nearly 3 weeks of active work to undo all the damage the previous crew did. Now we have everything up and running .... except some major issues. First the solar system and battery are only connected to a small subset of our subpanels and so while we are getting power from the panels, it only covers about 30% of our house's load. And ironically, it doesn't provide power to the part of our house where we have our router so that in a blackout, our battery and solar system will not even work! So we paid $30k+ to only power 30% of our home and no backup power in the case of a blackout. Great. Also, Alameda county requires bollards to protect the battery. They "installed" them by placing them on top of the dirt ground, but when someone walked by and touched one, it fell over. They failed to secure them to the ground and when we raised it, they said it would cost extra for them to do that. How is it possible that doing things to code costs extra?!?! I cannot discourage you enough from hiring this company. Update Nov 2021 --- (7 months after we signed the contract) After weeks of trying to get someone on the phone we finally succeeded and were able to get agreement to install our solar panels despite the battery not being available until January 2022. We set a date for install and we had someone come out to dig a trench in our back yard to connect our garage to the main house since we need panels on both buildings. Install crew came out and spent a couple of days working but then disappeared. They left the job about 25% done, with a huge gaping muddy trench in our backyard, pipes and tools laying everywhere and a single panel just resting on the garage roof unattached. They also left their extension cords plugged in on our garage floor, which shorted out the circuit connected to our sump pump, which failed to work during the storm, flooding our basement with 3 feet of water and ruining a lot of our stuff while we were away for the weekend. It's been almost 4 weeks now since they started the rooftop install and they are still maybe 50% done. Our yard is a mess. I am having trouble getting another install date to finish up  the job. This has been an absolute nightmare. September 2021 --- We went with LA Solar because they promised us they had everything we needed in stock and that they would move very quickly. That was back in April. Despite several installation appointments where they were no shows, our current outlook is that we'll have to wait for installation until January. At one point they even delivered all the materials to our house, but no one showed up to install them. So we have a huge stack of solar panels that have been taking up our driveway for over a month and with many more months now to wait. Communication has been abysmal. Our initial contact was adamant that they would stay in direct touch, but lately they have not been responsive to calls and messages. It appears that my contact has very little information about what is actually happening with my account. We are so frustrated we're considering pulling down our contract with LA Solar. We've paid a lot of money already and aren't getting any of the benefit. Job abandoned for weeks after only half way done. Can't get them to come back out. read more

I contracted with LA Solar Group to install 13 solar panels for a total of 5.85kW of power, and one Tesla Powerwall 2 for partial home backup. From first contract to utility permission to operate took exactly 100 days. Here is my experience. Overall Rating: 3.8 I did a ton of research on solar before buying, and this may be the most fair and exhaustive review of a solar company you may find. First, I think solar contractors get a lot of blame for issues that are very often outside their control. Tons of codes and regulations to follow, overly restrictive permitters, widely variable city inspections, incompetent utility employees, and broken hardware are just a few issues I had to deal with. Installing solar is not easy, so I think reviewers need to give companies a break. That said, there are several places LA Solar Group could improve a lot upon. Sales: While Sergio at LA Solar was very communicative, his initial design of my system left a lot to be desired. The first design put the panels on my north facing roof. The second design had 20 panels, when I knew less would fit. He "confirmed with the engineers" that 18 panels would fit. After site visit and full design, only 13 panels would fit. Taking my system size from an ideal 8.1kW to 5.85kW. Thankfully, he made up for those shortcomings by finding me a HUGE discount, where I can comfortably say no other company could have come close on price. Plan and Permitting: I was pretty disappointed when the plan came back 28% smaller than originally expected (the first plan actually put 5 panels on my north facing roof, which I refused), and the permits submitted to the city were rejected twice before being approved. They also moved my Powerwall from inside my garage to outside the house without communicating with me. Overall, I had to get pretty involved during this process to ensure the install would go smoothly - I even called the city permit official and talked about California code for 40 minutes. Every city is different, so it makes sense this would be the difficulty part. Install: Certainly the best part. The install crew was very quick and did a very good job. I'm very impressed with the mounting brackets that minimize damage to my concrete tile roof, and Aleksandr did top notch electrical work. The biggest issue here was the Powerwall wasn't available for my original install date, and my install had to be split into two days. They also didn't bring two necessary CTs to correctly have whole home site monitoring - an issue that an average homeowner probably wouldn't have caught. Service/Support: I've already required support for two issues with the Powerwall since install, and had to be very proactive to get them fixed. But I was ultimately able to get the issues resolved relatively quickly, including a complete replacement of the Powerwall unit. Communication: Definitely the weakest part of the company. As an Armenian company, many of those I spoke with didn't speak great English. While I'm sure this benefits them in other areas, it certainly hurts their ability to communicate. My install date came and went TWICE without anyone showing up or calling. Calling in and getting someone to talk to or call you back can be VERY difficult. I will say, Candice (billing) was far and away the quickest to respond to questions/issues I had, and even got a Powerwall delivered early to get my install happening with less delay. Ghukas, my project manager, also did a pretty good job, even if I had to initiate each time to get answers. Value: This is where LA Solar shines. They are willing to match or beat competitors on price. There may be some risk in using their proprietary hardware for panels, but given the quality of work, and quality of the hardware, I'm pretty happy. Bottom line: If you're just getting solar, this is definitely the way to go. If you're adding a battery, expect some complications, but they will still offer the best value for your money. read more

The 6.8 KW (peak) solar system that these folks installed for me really rocks! So if you are planning to install a solar system, look no further and hire this company. I say this because I did my homework right and had obtained over six estimates, and this company beat all the other five not only on price and quality, but also on other (rather important) things as you can see below. 1. Price: This company beat all the others by nearly 20%, and all the other five estimates came very close to one another to the point where I was suspecting that there is some sort of illegal "price fixing" that is rampant industry-wide, but not for this company since it came far away (and below) all the others. 2. Equipment Quality: The system they installed was the most advanced compared to all the other bids. It used higher-end Panasonic panels, and Enphase micro-inverters and combiner. Others bid for lesser-quality no-name panels with one string inverter and a set of optimizers. After much research, I think a micro-inverter based system is superior to the string-inverter based system (so don't listen to the confusing information you find on the web, which portrays the two types of systems as being "equivalent"). So with a total of just 20 panels, my projected annual solar energy production should be about one and a half times my consumption. This should bring down my PG&E bill to the minimum $10/month, and should be able to provide all the electric energy needed for an extra electric car I may purchase in the future. 3. System design: This company had the most precise and realistic design, and that is very important because some of the bids I received were not realistic as they sketched more panels on my South-facing side of the roof than that side could possibly fit. This inflates the projected energy production, but is NOT realistic. In my case, the optimal design was to use the Southern-facing and Eastern-facing sides of the roof and to arrange the panels 50/50 on both sides. This company nailed the design right, but other bids like I said was either plain wrong, or were not realistic. With this design I was able to get a peak production of 6.2 KW, which is close to the theoretical 6.8 KW peak (the difference being mostly due to the orientation of my house). 4. Consumption and Net Monitoring: Most contractors let you monitor ONLY the energy production of your solar system, but this company gave me the ability to monitor the CONSUMPTION of energy by my house and the net energy exchanged between me and utility company on an instantaneous basis (actually every 15 minutes) and on the same Enlighten App as shown in the picture. This is really useful if you would like to do any energy planning in your house to see who/what is really consuming electricity. Granted that you can see the consumption on your utility website, but that data is one or two days delayed and does not show up in the same view as the production, and these two problems make the data from the utility company useless for that purpose. 5. Other: All the folks of the company I have dealt with are ethical in their dealing and are reasonable. The company installed the system in two days, which is very quick. Getting the consumption monitoring to work correctly took a while longer though. read more

I am updating my initial review after the LA Solar CEO reached out to me to address my issues. I found LA Solar through EnergySage. I got quoted for solar panels and battery and LA Solar was very competitive and had high quality products. Their installation crew and engineers are also very professional and competent. My roof is rather small but they were creative and resourceful enough to find a way to install solar panels on it. I didn't expect the project to be easy or straightforward but they managed to make it happen and they deserve credit for that event though it took a very long time (over 9 months). After failing 3 inspections, they had to move the front panels back a little bit to meet fire department standards (see pictures). My Tesla battery installation, which was done separately, was definitely a little smoother. The installation itself was very quick but it took a couple of months to complete the whole project (inspection...etc). In the midst of pandemic times, it's understandable. Now let's talk about the negatives...The MAIN problem that I've had with the company since the very beginning is COMMUNICATION. They definitely lack terribly on this front in my opinion. - They crew members either didn't show up or showed up on the wrong date. Each time without letting me know ahead of time. - They missed a scheduled inspection. I didn't know what to tell the inspector who just shrugged off and walked way. - One inspection got cancelled and they didn't tell me. I had to reach out to find out. - I don't even know how many people I've talked to, texted with since the beginning of my project but it was never the same person. Bottom line is that I am happy that both of my projects were completed but I am not exactly thrilled with the overall experience. Previous review (1/5 stars): I really don't like leaving negative reviews (especially 1 star reviews) for any business but this company is unfortunately one of the worst ones I've ever dealt with in my life. The experience might be different in Los Angeles. In the Bay Area though? My experience so far has been terrible. One of their employees describes the chaos that reigns inside the company as "too many chiefs and not enough Indians" and it shows! - They promised to complete our solar installation by the end of 2019 in order for us to benefit from the federal tax credit. That didn't happen and didn't even get close to happening... - They scheduled our installation date and then were told that it was actually our delivery date and that our installation date would happen at a later time...the delivery person destroyed our front yard plants by dropping heavy metal rods on them - The installers, who were contractors, not employed by LA Solar, left my front door UNLOCKED while my wife and I were out of town for the weekend. That left us very panicked since literally anybody could just walk in and help themselves with all of our stuff. Fortunately, we managed to find a friend to lock it for us a few hours after the crew left. - Terrible communication: Every single phone interaction has to happen with a different person that has no idea about our status/situation. NOBODY ever picks up the phone and it always goes straight to voicemail. Of course they never call back. - The city inspector came in twice and failed the inspection twice because the installation is not compliant with safety codes. Nobody from LA Solar showed up for the second inspection. The inspector just shrugged and walked away. I have no idea what happens now. They might have to shift the panels around on the roof to make the installation compliant. One of thing I know for sure: I am not going to take any more days off of work or waste any more time with these guys. I have to admit, my relationship with LA/Bay Solar didn't start off so great. Went through Energsage (great website to find out information about the solar and to get low pressure bids) which is how i got connected with this company. The initial quote they sent was highly competitive but it was pretty obvious the number of panels and layout they suggested wasn't practical. I connected with a number of other solar installers, bear in mind this was around the summer of 2019, the last year of the 30% federal credit so it was pretty madhouse. I found a lot of sleazy installers (wrote a few reviews) and some really great ones but many wouldn't max out the production of solar on my roof because they felt my roof was too complicated (not a lot of continuous surfaces, lots of peaks and valleys) and not cost effective as they would have to single rack a lot of the panels. Finally got 2 companies who would bid on my project with decent pricing but they kept changing the contract terms on me so I ended up coming back to LA/Bay Solar. They sent someone to do a site inspection on my roof and took a few weeks to get back to me and when they did, they initially revised the number of panels downward, lowering the estimated production. I wasn't happy about it and went back and forth with their CS initially who didn't seem like she understood what was happening with my project. Then they transferred me to an engineer who then explained that to get the number of panels up for the amount of production I wanted (90% of max) would be too high and require a lot of single racking and not cost efficient. He said it couldn't be done. Frustrated at this, I finally just asked to speak with the owner. Ara, LA Solar's owner and CEO called me back and asked what I wanted and I said 90% of annual production. He said it was going to cost a bit more due to single racking and reverse tilting and I said fine. I kid you not, within about 15-20 minutes and while he was on the phone with me, he designed the whole damn project that got me to 90% of my annual production. I signed the contract later that day and within a week, started work submitting plans. I live in Daly City and folks who like in Daly City realize how freaking difficult it is to pull permits and often times the process of getting permits and inspections done can take excruciatingly long. I think this project could have been done a lot sooner but we hit up a lot of delays because of permitting and inspecting. However once the permits were aquired, it was relatively smooth sailing. Contract was signed in Oct. I think and they started working on the electrical in December and finished in February, just in time for SIP. I now have 16 LG 350 watt panels with Enphase inverters producing good power even in Daly City fog. Its been about 6 months since installation and Im at about a little over 50% of my estimated production, which is where it should be. No problems with the panels, inverters, main panel or app and I'm still referring folks to LA Solar. If you have problems with their CS, just reach out directly to Ara. He's been able to make everything go smoothly once he got involved! read more

We found a consult for LA solar via internet interest. We met with the consultant Nick among other representatives for other companies. Nick was nice and we like the package and pricing presented so we chose LA solar. Installation of panels took about a month to happen. This was done by a third party. These guys were terrible. Spoke a foreign language and was rude. Did not follow the the exact design as it had been laid out for the panels. More importantly, then put selectee holes in some of our roof beams, left trash in my yard, pallets in the driveway, and boxes on the roof after they were done. Took several calls by consultant to get them to clean up their mess. Once we got pass that, thought we were all set. Was told could take 30-60 days for the whole process to take place and to be up an running. 5 months later.....nothing! This was after PG&E had done their thing. Per PG&E, panels installed were not registered with PG&E. They needed some code from the company for the panels before they could give a permit to operate. They supposedly had sent emails to the company about it with no response. Apparently, the panels we agreed on were changed last minute to new 'upgraded' panels before install. Great! But now a hold up. Many calls to consultant resulted in no action. After a while, he seemed to tire of my inquiries and became less and less responsive to my texts and calls. Had to take matters into our in hands calling pg&e and LA solar ourselves. The company was completely unresponsive and ignored our calls sending us to the voicemail abyss multiple times. And never responded to emails. I had to basically hound them and any live person that accidentally chose to answer the phone to get any answers. After about a month of basically harassing them, I finally got ahold of someone that was supposed to be a manager to finally get PG&E what they needed to turn on our solar. By now, it had been 6 months, and we missed the important summer months we would have been contributing to the grid. Overall, the whole experience was absolutely terrible. If we hadn't eventually gotten fed up, got tired of waiting and getting the run around, who knows if/when our solar would be turned on. Since it's been on, have not had any known issues but I am terrified at the possibility of needing to call them for anything. Do not waste your time with LA solar. This is an update to my previous review. After I wrote my previous review, my service suddenly got much better. I was in direct contact with the head honcho at all times, and their communication with me was much better. However, some things still fell through the cracks. Some scheduling was off (again) but things were generally much better. This is good, as it shows me that they do care, even if they need a push to do it. However, this is still somewhat bad because it needed to get to this level to be a relatively decent experience. I couldn't help but feel that the head honcho was moving mountains for me, which is great, but he shouldn't NEED to do that for the customers to simply not be mad. He was definitely hounding people on my behalf, just to do their jobs. While I am very happy with the head honcho and how he came through for me (Stan) it doesn't speak too well to the rest of the operations behind the scenes. Because my job took as long as it did, I was entitled to payment for lost solar generation as per the contact. I honestly expected this to be a nightmare in itself, but Stan came through for me, and made it a really pain free experience. This review is interesting, because I can't really give it a solid score for the entire experience. It took me filing an official complaint with the BBB in order for them to even come out and finish installing the battery backups, which STILL isn't done yet. As of this moment, I'm waiting on them to show up. It is now 10:54am, and they have me a window of 8-10am. I had to call them to find out that they'll be late; between 12:30-2pm. These guys can't even call me to tell me these things. It's almost as if their complete disregard for your time is how they earn commissions. The absolute worst of it, was back in July, they told me 1 day in advance, that they need to come out and do major work. I had to take the next day off work, which as most of us know, usually doesn't go over well with your boss. The next day, PG&E came out to turn my electricity off, which is fine. Except for the fact that these guys never showed up at all, and left me sitting in an unpowered house for 5-6 hours. I had to call them to find out what was going on, and to get PG&E to come back out to turn my electricity back on. I've always considered myself a fair person, and I have never blamed any individual for these issues. But this organization has so many communication problems that I'm at the end of my rope. Still, for my own sanity, I have to be fair to them. The head honcho did do me one favor and fixed some of my pre-existing electrical issues for free, to the tune of $1500. After a huge slew of their problems. Also, considering the cost of the entire project is $60k-$70k, about 2.5% is really not a lot at all. I BELIEVE a lot of these issues stem from the fact that they're some kind of small, inexperienced offshoot of the same company in SoCal. While I genuinely believe that going with them in SoCal is fine, if you're in NorCal like me, just don't. I have been a homeowner for over 35 years and I have never done business with a more unprofessional company than LA Solar Group. Each representative I spoke with had no idea about my project as if there was no file in the system. Departments did not communicate with each other and there was no follow up, which necessitated more calls from me. Everything seemed promising in the beginning of the process, but from June 27, 2019, when I signed the contract and until the Tesla battery started charging on March 23, 2020, nothing was completed in a timely manner. For the sake of brevity, I am going to outline my nine month ordeal. 06/27/19 - signed contract 08/07/19 - permit issued 09/21/19 - battery installed 09/26/19 - inspection cancelled by LA Solar 10/04/19 - inspection cancelled by LA Solar 10/28/19 - I made arrangements to meet LA Solar rep and inspector, LA Solar did not follow instructions and the inspector left 11/13/19 - inspection cancelled by LA Solar 11/19/19 - I wrote a letter to Ara Petrosyan, asking for resolution of the delays and inspection cancellations (no response) 11/21/19 - inspection cancelled by LA Solar 11/22/19 - inspection cancelled by LA Solar 12/10/19 - inspection failed, corrections must be made before next inspection 01/06/20 - technicians arrived to make necessary corrections without prior notice 01/10/20 - I was threatened by Accounts Receivables, who stated that LA Solar cannot take responsibility for my project delay and since the final payment has not been received, the project will continue to remain on hold until the remaining balance has been received. Lack of payment will cause late fees to be applied and to increase each day. I informed her that threats are illegal and the balance will be paid when the project is complete. Also, because of delays, I missed the deadline for the full solar rebate and will withhold that portion from the final payment. I stated that if the harassment continued, the next step would be to report LA Solar to the State Contractors Licensing Board. 01/16/20 - inspection scheduled, minor errors were noted and corrected 01/17/20 - battery installation approved by city electrical department 03/02/20 - received permission to operate from PG&E 03/16/20 - contacted DJ Dyer for further instructions for battery because it was not charging (no response) 03/18/20 - contacted Tesla Powerwall Support for assistance 03/23/20 - battery functioning correctly after reconfiguration by Tesla Powerwall Support 03/26/20 - contacted by DJ Dyer regarding change order and final payment 04/10/20 - final payment read more

This is a review from someone who did NOT go with Bay Solar Group as their contractor. I wanted to thank Nicholai for his time and energy. He is a wealth of information and really believes in educating his customers so that they can make an informed decision. He also worked very hard to get us a good quote. He was not pushy as well, which I really appreciated. In the end, we went with a different contractor, but it is easy to understand why Bay Solar Group has such great reviews. Do yourself a favor and ask for a quote/ consultation with them. I was originally working with another Solar installer but my neighbor was very satisfied with the entire solar project from Bay Solar and gave it try and was glad I did. Talked to Nicholai and he was patient in addressing all my concerns and extremely patient with my multiple plan change request. Nicholai also provided great advice that reinforce my decision. Installers are great to work with. The material arrived late from shipper but additional installer was sent installer work until sun down to completed within a day and appreciated that mile. Although I am happy with the final outcome, I think there are room for improvement such as: - Get list of what's important to solar customer and offer all possibilities and features. - Some mix up with my panel location and position in my monitoring data. (but easy to mix up when it's 8:45p without much break). My installation has been very smooth and very professional. The first time LASolar (BaySolar in the Bay Area) came to install, they noticed that some of my roof plywood underneath and the insulation was very old and they were worried that drilling the holes in the tile would create leaks. So they helped me find a roofer that could fix it very quickly (within 10 days) and they 1 week later they installed the panels. Within about 2 weeks it was connected and all inspections passed with no issues. Very satisfied and very professional. This is an update of my last review. Since my review was posted back in Jan, I was immediately contacted by a top brass at LA Solar, which owns Bay Solar, who assured me that my situation will be immediately addresses. True to his word, he expedited the process and made sure that all the technical problems were resolved. Unfortunately, because of Covid19 lockdown, we didn't get an inspector to come out until May. We were in the market for solar and we were doing a lot of research for solar providers thru EnergySage. We came across Bay Solar Group and they provided us a reasonable quote with the right equipment we were after. Our Bay Solar contact was Taylor who made the process painless. He and his staff of installers did a great job of setting up our system. They are a very dedicated group and drove from Los Angeles to Northern California to install our solar panels. After the initial plans, I made some changes to the placement of equipment and they handled the request without a problem. These guys were amazing. From the presentation to the installation of the panels, they even painted the the conduet to match the house. Several of my friends have gotten solar from other companies and had to wait up to a month from install to "on" in 5 days. At the beginning of the year I started leasing an electric car and figured that it would also be a good time to seriously look into solar as I always knew it was a good investment. The 40+ year old electrical panel at my house also needed to be relocated and upgraded so why not kill two birds with one stone. Plus, the 30% federal tax credit applies to the entire installation (solar panels and electrical upgrade) if done by the solar company. Side Note: Before looking into solar, it is worthwhile to see if there are lower cost opportunities to improve energy efficiency such as replacing electric clothes dryers, water heaters, and furnaces with gas versions or installing LED bulbs or fixtures. One also needs to take a look at energy usage. Low usage households, say 4000 kWh annual usage or less, may take longer to break even on a solar installation if paying outright. There are also financing options which break up the total cost so your monthly payment is comparable to what you would pay PG&E for electricity anyways. Of course when financing the total savings over the life of the system is lower overall compared to paying for everything up front. Regardless, think of it this way, instead of paying PG&E for electricity you are investing into the value of your house. Side Note 2: Sizing of the solar installation is also important and the solar installer help you with this. There are also online tools out there. After making any efficiency upgrades you also need to anticipate any future changes that might affect your energy consumption such as installing a pool pump or charging an electric car. Ultimately, you want your solar system to cover close to 100% of your anticipated energy usage without going too much over. PG&E will credit you back annually for any excess energy you generate, but only at a rate or 3-4 cents per kWh. This means that if you generating too much excess energy, it would have been cheaper to install fewer solar panels in the first place. Getting back on topic, Bay Solar (LA Solar's expansion into the Bay Area) was the last quote I received. Taylor, the solar consultant realized that I didn't need to hear all of the sales talk and got right down to the numbers. He served as my point of contact throughout the process and was always quick to reply via email and text with whatever questions or concerns I had, consistent with the LA Solar Group reviews I read. There are many solar companies out there and I found that pricing was very similar among the quotes I received as many companies use the panels. I chose Bay Solar for the following reasons: 1. They do all their work in house. Some solar companies sub contract electrical work so reviews varied based on the sub contractor used. Bay Solar employs their own licensed electrician. 2. LA Solar has a 5 star rating on Yelp with 150+ reviews. Many solar companies install the same panels for around the same price which means you should choose an installer based on their customer service. In addition to the manufacturer 25 year warranty provided by panel manufacturer (Sunpower), Bay Solar offered a 10 year roof warranty in case any leaks developed due to the solar installation. Not only do they have an electrical license, they also have a roofing license and perform their own roofing work if needed. Solar installation is a construction project and I was told that it can take up to 8 weeks before all is said and done. Bay Solar will actually pay your electricity bill if it takes more than 8 weeks! The major steps in the process are meter spotting (if you plan to move or upgrade your electrical panel), design, permitting, installation, inspection, and interconnection with PG&E. I put down my deposit on 2/9 and received PTO (permission to operate / ok to turn the system on) from PG&E on 3/17. The installation itself went smoothly and only took a couple of days including the installation of a new main electrical panel and the solar panels themselves. The city inspection went smoothly with the inspector even commenting that the work was excellent. Another nice touch was that they color matched my existing stucco and painted all the electrical conduit to match the house. The monitoring hardware was delayed and was installed about two weeks later, but I was kept informed of the status and actually it was of little consequence to me since the system was generating from the day I got PTO from PG&E. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with Bay Solar and my solar consultant Taylor and would recommend them without reservation.
