Cliff & Will, Thank you! A recommendation from my partner Cara, they were not only more affordable than Mini of SF, but were able to fit me in short notice for a must take trip. Organized and simple processes with a decent turn around, and although I cannot speak to the quality of brake pads, my car doesn't seem to mind! Lol read more

They know BMWs and all their quirks, and I really appreciate their expertise. Bay Motor Works was able to re-tune and prolong life of a part that another mechanic said needed costly replacement. They also better pinpointed the exact issue of engine misfires and roughness, because they know the intricacies and common problems of BMW's various engines. Appreciate and value their customer service and knowledge. Relieved to have a functional car again - thank you. read more

Called for a quote on battery replacement and they were able to provide it to me through text, which I find super convenient. Was able to set up an appointment a few days later. Prior to my battery dying, I've been driving around with a super loud exhaust. Not sure what my ex did to it but he removed something to "make it louder". Honestly, it was driving me insane! Come appointment day, they were able to change out my battery and they noticed something rattling and loose in my exhaust so they secured it. It fixed the loud noise! I'm super grateful that they did that without me mentioning anything. Will be going here from now on. Super trustworthy! read more

We took our 2015 BMW to Bay Motor Works for an oil change, brake fluids, and vehicle inspection. It was easy to get ahold of them through phone to book an appointment. After dropping off the car, they called within just a few hours to let me know my car was ready. The total came out to ~$600 which I think is a reasonable price for the job. read more

Cliff is the only guy I try to work on my precious little MINI. The other day it was idling so rough I couldn't move it one car length. I was concerned that I would have to tow it to Bay Motor Works; and shell out $150 - $175 for the tow. Fortunately, it fired up fine the next morning and I was able to drive it to his shop. It turned out the throttle body failed and the fix would be costly. I know that Cliff offered a good price for parts & labor and he is still the best deal in town. Great news, the MINI was fixed within a day and I am back tearing up the roads. Just kidding. I drive like an old man. Cliff earns every single star of my five star rating. read more

Clifford was wonderful. He was quick, informative and I definitely felt as if he was 100% transparent with me. I took in my used BMW X3 and the only delay was waiting for the part, but I dropped it off on Friday and got it back Monday. I highly recommend them. I read many reviews and he had so many positive reviews and I now know why. Definitely going back to him in the future. read more

Gotta add my voice to the other 5 star reviews. My 2011 BMW needed an oil filter gasket replaced. Bay motor quoted a very fair price over the phone. Changed the gasket and cleaned the fuel injection system, did other related work and washed and dried the entire engine. Got my car looking, and driving like it just left the showroom floor. This will be my go to place when anything ever goes wrong. ps. the shop is clean enough to eat off the floor should you get the urge. read more

Super honest, knowledgeable and relaible. A rare combination among mechanics. They saved me big money by suggesting I get grey market parts for a non critical component. read more

Honest, reasonably priced mechanic shop. Not much else to ask for. Been bringing my 06 e90 here for a few years. I'm always given choice in what to fix as they're very transparent read more

Highly recommend this place. Cliff and his team are awesome! I visited them several times for some routine for my bmw x3. read more

Extremely overpriced place. Got a quote $620 to just drain and refill coolant and break fluid. Both fluids cost all OEM original BMW are $50 The rest $570 is labor. That's the same what dealerships charge about $350-400 per hour. read more

I am so grateful to Cliff and everyone at Bay Motor Works. My mechanic closed up shop last year, and I've been stressed trying to find a mechanic in SF who I could trust to do quality work. Enter Cliff and Bay Motor Works. Cliff is extremely HONEST, and that alone is something that has earned my loyalty and continued business! It is something that cannot be understated; knowing that you have a mechanic who respects his paying customers and is always honest and upfront about what your car needs (and doesn't need) is worth its weight in gold. Equally important, Cliff and his staff are great at what they do! I needed something out of the ordinary involving the installation of a windshield cowl, and Cliff went above and beyond to make sure it was done perfectly, and it was. They do quality work and I would trust them with any repairs or work on my car. If you own a BMW or a Mini, I cannot recommend Cliff and Bay Motor Works highly enough. They will take care of your car and keep it running in tip top shape! I would not take mine to anyone else. read more

Awesome work here and very trustworthy. Reputation precedes them. Clifford was responsive and extremely helpful. I had my maintenance done here on an M3 but really the major issue I had was a problem with not being able to pass smog due to a failure. He was able to pinpoint the problem extremely quickly and without incurring cumulative diagnostic costs. Thanks Bay Motor Works as I'll be back in the future instead of to the stealerships read more

Bay Motor Works - M going in for service and smog repair - Auto Repair Near Me - San Francisco, California

Just got my BMW brakes changed. I highly recommend Bay Motor Works . Great service and reasonably priced. So glad I found a dependable place to service my cars. read more

First time going here, and they're 2 blocks away. Simple oil change, so was in and out quickly. I don't know if they take drive-ins -- I had made an appointment thru Yelp. I have been using the dealer for maintenence for years but they're too expensive and hard to get in, so it's Bay Motor Works from now on. Curious to know what all this shop can do. read more

After reading all the reviews and a ridiculous experience at San Francisco BMW Service Center (see my other review there) decided to take my car to Cliff to get fixed. Another friend also recommended this shop to me since they thought his work was great, pricing fair, and he was very honest. It was a pretty major repair to fix the Air Conditioning since it was leaking near the evaporator but his quote seemed fair and fit it in sooner than expected. I just left my car there so they could start on it as soon as they were ready so got it back a week later. I needed a copy of a key made and now I'm also working on scheduling an appointment with the guy he recommended. Appreciate all his help and will be back again. read more

Had a great experience with Bay Motor Works. Will was extremely helpful and answered all my questions. He was upfront and transparent about pricing, and got me scheduled quickly. They fixed the major issues and had my vehicle running smoothly in just one day. Fast turnaround, clear communication, and excellent service. Highly recommend. read more

Very friendly and helpful staff. Was able to diagnose issue within 2 hours and fix by end of the day. Was able to drop off before work and pick up same day. Very professional and very communicative. Also super close to the dealership, and they always seem to have parts on hand. read more

I've taken my car to Bay Motor Works to see Cliff for 10 years. He and his shop have been extremely trustworthy, knowledgeable and honest, and I won't take my car anywhere else for service! read more

I've been taking my BMW 550i to Cliff for the past couple of years since he was recommended by a neighbor. I had been foolishly taking the car in for service at the local dealership and was dismayed by how San Francisco BMW misdiagnosed the root cause of an alternator problem. Had I taken my car to Bay Motor Works initially, I would have saved several hundred dollars. I highly recommend this shop for their accurate diagnostics, Cliff's ethical practice, and reasonable prices. Having a honest mechanic is like finding a good primary care physician...it provides a real sense of security and confidence. read more

Cliff from Bay Motor Works is fantastic, I took my BMW and got standard maintenance done, fixed the front parking lights, wiper fluid pump changed, rear brake pads changed and filters replaced. Work quality was impressive, done in one day and Cliff was very responsive. Would totally recommend Bay Motor Works and Cliff. read more

Brought in my 2013 bmw m6 because the check engine light was preventing me from getting a smog check. I was quoted $75-100 by cliff to change one of the co2 sensors. I just fixed my transmission (check engine light was still on) and was delayed in work so planned to come another time. Two months later.... I need a smog check so I bring it in to cliff. He then changes his proposition that he needs change the air sensor which would cost $700... BUT IT WOULDNT FIX THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT... So of course I'm not going to waste money if it wasn't go to help me pass smog. I already spent $5000-$7500 on fixing my transmission It sucks that when I had to fix my transmission, I didn't price check elsewhere because who wants to tow their car from mechanic to mechanic. I just recently brought it to another mechanic which fixed the check engine light for $200. I'm not really a fan of writing bad reviews or but I feel like this auto shop aims to optimize their profits at the expense of their customers. read more

I have been going to Clifford for the past five years and the service is consistently excellent! Clifford always patiently explains the reason for various repairs, charges a fair rate, and is very accommodating when booking appointments. You can't ask for more from a mechanic! Highly recommend Bay Motor Works, specifically if you have a Mini Coop! Clifford is the bomb! read more

My service light gave me a warning to pull over and stop driving so I did and searched for someone to help--Bay Motor Works was available that Monday morning! It Works +'s: + Responsive. I had called and left a message while pulled over to the curb. Bay Motor Works called me back immediately. + Clifford Kwong. He was available to greet me and addressed the issue. Not only did he inform me of the problem, but also he taught me how to overcome it in the future. I had severely drained my oil. He also had shown me how to check my oil and educated me that MINIs drain oil every 1000 miles. I also had gotten a lesson to not ruin my hood--Mini Coopers have a special lever to open the hood without force. +Informative and preventative. I am grateful that Clifford had spent time to teach me how to prevent future service issues and how to take care of my car on my own. Now that my free MINI services have expired after hitting my five year mark, I need to take care of it myself. + Candid. That's rare to find at an auto shop. It Doesn't Work -'s: Nothing to note because my MINI runs fine now that I know how to take care of it. I'll return to Bay Motor Works for future issues with my car. read more

Clifford is the man. If you want your BMW or Mini Cooper serviced without the dealership price, then give Bay Motor Works a call and get a quote. read more

Brought my BMW Z4 in because the convertible top suddenly stopped working. Convertible top repairs are usually very costly so I was expecting a huge bill. Much to my surprise, Clifford told me that there's nothing wrong with the convertible motor, and that it was just a short circuit that's causing the problem. He charged me just for the time he spent fixing the circuit board wires which is way less than what they would have if I brought my car to the dealership. I've decided to write this review because I appreciate Clifford's professionalism and honesty. I'm a customer for life! read more

Bay Motor Works - Auto Repair Near Me - San Francisco, California

Terrific customer relations, very professional and knowledgeable! Have used them for years and trust their advice, service and pricing!

Baymotorworks has very friendly and swift response attitude and did a better job than deal, they addressed my drive keep rebooting issue which deal completely suggested a more expensive route... I would likely recommend their service read more

Needed to have the passenger-side (and later the driver-side) low beam bulb replaced. Difficult to get to due to the lack of space in the engine bay to get the headlight covers off. Very reasonable cost for labor, and the work was done exactly as I hoped. I was a walk-in for the first bulb replaced, and they were very accommodating/able to work on my vehicle the same day. Will definitely return for additional service needs. read more

Got my post-warranty routine servicing and brake pad replacement done for my M4 at Bay Motorworks for a fair price. Cliff and team are a solid bunch who know what they're doing, especially for BMWs. I'll be back read more

I brought my BMW 430i here after calling around to neighboring auto shops. Most places estimated that the work would take at least three days. Nah Motor Works did the work in one day and the price was unbeatable. My new favorite mechanics in the city s/o to Clifford! read more

Cliff and his team really are a trustworthy and efficient team. I'm really skeptical of other shops based on past experience, especially (I hate to say it) being a female. I chose bay motors based on their strong clientele and rave reviews and I'm so glad I did. They put together a carplay MMI i had purchased and cliff demonstrated how to use it too. I'll definitely bring my car here in the future since they specialize in bmw and minis. Thanks again! read more

Highly recommend this shop for work on older BMWs. Decided to try here since my sister recommended it and it's close to home. I had a battery drain issue which can be tough to diagnose and was so excited they were able to fix it. Car is running great and they charged a reasonable price. I don't feel like they overcharged me at all which I'm thankful for. Clifford and his team were really friendly too and explained the issues and work done. Very honest and great service. Thank you! read more

They were professional, timely, and very reasonably priced. They took great care of my Mini Cooper.

In the nearly 30 years that I've been driving, Bay Motor Works provided the best service experience I've had...and they didn't even work on my car. Let me explain...I had just had my service completed at a nearby, highly rated auto service business who I had been going to for the last few years. Unfortunately, the main person I dealt with was no longer there and some of my dealings with the current people left me feeling like it might be time to look around for a new place to have my car serviced. The previous business had diagnosed my car with a faulty starter and said it would cost $1400 for them to replace it. I decided to look around and got a lower quote from Bay Motor Works at $1250. I took my car in and spoke with Cliff who knew that I was already committed to having it fixed there. Instead, he looked up my car, saw that there was a recall that potentially could cause the issue I was having and strongly suggested I take care of that first and then come back if the problem remained. Well, lo and behold, it did fix the issue and that saved me $1250 and cost him the same. I have to say, it's incredibly refreshing to deal with an honest business that saw I could potentially fix my issue for free and basically threw away over a thousand dollars that they 100% knew I was already committed to. Thanks again, and I will definitely be having my car serviced here going forward! read more

Needed new rear brake pads. Found Bay Motor Works online and reached out for estimate. Cliff did a great job and car was ready when he said it would be! read more

Cliff is awesome. He normally works on my BMW but I had a problem with my second car and he jumped in and helped me out of a jam with a time sensitive need for a repair. He is absolutely great. And does a great job all the time on my BMW. read more

I have been taking my 2005 mini to Cliff for a few years now and he has been consistently great. I've certainly had plenty of things to repair on this little old beast. His small shop means less chaos and communication problems and newbies working on cars. Great communication and work on the car. read more
