Once again - Five stars!!! Phase II of the pond project was to do a repair. Scope of work included identifying the source of the leak, repairing it and then restoring the pond to its original configuration. Mission accomplished!!! Cash was extremely easy to work with and truly an expert at his craft. Also he was willing to collaborate and accommodate my "asks". Thank you. Going forward Bay Area Waterscapes will be my go to business for any of my pond needs. read more

We had a slight misunderstanding about qualifying the necessary services.. After I met the technician I understood why he had so many questions. Cash French's customer service has a lot to be desired I recently had Bay Area Waterscapes remodel my pond everything looked wonderful but everything that was agreed upon was not done. I wanted the depth of my pond to be 2 feet on both sides of the bridge. Cash did the work but never consulted me before putting in liner and adding the rocks I work everyday at a hospital and when I came home after he had deepened the pond and already had laid the liner and rocks and was ready to start adding the water After the water was added I realized the left side of my pond was very shallow Cash French never checked his work to sure depth was correct on both sides of bridge before adding rock and liner Cash French should have made sure the depth was correct before putting in liner and rocks. By the time I realized the left side of pond was not the correct depth it was to late. I expressed my concern immediately but Cash said nothing. So I just let it go but I was not happy 2 months after my pond project was completed one of the water lights stopped working I tried to contact Cash French but he refused to answer my texts. I tried calling him and he refused to answer the phone. I reminded him that he told me there was a 5 year warranty for his work He then told me to show him the 5 year warranty which I was unable to do because I had lost some of my estimates he sent me via email But I told him this pond remodel was only 2 months old and lights should not be going out this soon Again he refused to talk to me His customer service is very poor I have to hire out to another pond company to replace lights that are not working Based on his poor customer service I would not recommend him to anyone Cash French does not stand by his work at all I'm very disappointed with Bay Area Waterscapes read more

Cash French is a solid, honest, old-school professional who genuinely loves what he does--and it shows. He's not just experienced; he's a master of his craft. When it comes to water features, you absolutely get what you pay for, and Cash is worth every penny. What sets him apart isn't just his hands-on skill (which is excellent), but his ability to diagnose problems remotely with astounding accuracy. I was blown away when, just seconds into a FaceTime call and after seeing a few photos, he identified my exact system--down to the brand and model numbers--and told me precisely what was needed to fix it. I couldn't help but smile. That kind of confidence and clarity only comes from decades of deep expertise. Cash doesn't just repair or install--he teaches, guides, and empowers. Watching and learning from someone who's truly a master at what they do is a rare and beautiful thing. If you're looking for top-tier work, peace of mind, and the kind of professionalism that's hard to find these days, Cash is your guy. read more

An honest professional! I was finishing a DIY pondless waterfall and had accepted that I would need professional help to fix some leaks that I could not find. Cash answered the phone when I called and, rather than booking a leak detection appointment, which I was ready to do, and charging me $1000, he insisted on having me go out and try some things to see if I could address the issue myself. After exchanging some photos, taking a good 15 minutes of his time, and trying some of the things he suggested, I successfully fixed the issue! And all without paying any more than the cost of a phone call. I will certainly be calling Cash for any needed maintenance on my waterfall moving forward. read more

I've dreamed of a large pond and waterfall in my yard for 24+ years now. I love the outdoors and I put in a small pond and tiny waterfall in my backyard by myself in 2001. I am retired now and was ready to go bigger. I decided to leave that to a professional ... but I definitely knew what I WANTED. A larger pond that was over 3 feet deep, with large waterfalls and a Tiki Hut ...and most importantly, I wanted it to look natural. Cash French, owner of Bay Area Waterscapes answered my phone call and I was immediately taken by his enthusiasm and vision. He was not my first estimate but he was hands down the most artistically qualified and I could tell he loved his job. You just don't realize how important and refreshing that part can be. He started with a sketch from me, a visit to my home and an initial quote. At first I was hesitant in what I wanted but he allowed adjustments from day 1 and as I saw how amazing the progress was I knew I wanted more. My own vision was clear from the start, but how do you get that across in a 2D sketch? Well, that is where Cash and his talent/experience comes in. I trusted his vision as I saw pictures and videos of his past work. In the end, he did not meet my expectations, he gave me a pond BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS! His workers were amazing, hard working, polite and always cleaned up before they left for the day. I live in a gated community and he was very courteous about the HOA and also my neighbors. The workers never complained about the heat in Modesto and worked extremely hard. Cash was there for all major decisions and monitored the progress with many hands-on days even though he lives an hour and a half away. We were in touch every day of the process. He asked me to go with him to the rock quarry and pick out what I liked as well. Anytime I called him with any concerns or questions he would pick up my call or answer my text messages immediately and if not, it was always within hours. You don't see that very often so that impressed me as well. The removing of grass, digging the huge hole and laying the big black liner was obviously ugly but as I watched daily, our combined vision slowly emerged to be absolutely gorgeous! I wanted a light in the pond and he put in about 15(?) lights saying he will take out any I did not want with no additional charge. He said most people want more and taking them out is easier then putting them in. Turns out I wanted them ALL even tho' I was thinking just one LOL. I spent more than I had originally intended but it kept getting so much better, I just kept adding things. So I can unequivocally say that my Turtle pond (yes, I have 6 turtles, numerous Koi and many goldfish) is now my beautiful oasis and worth every penny I spent on it! Enjoy the pictures and video I've posted and see for yourself. Thank you so much Cash! read more

Seems like the business is closed. Tried calling many times, left many messages and emails, all with no replies.

Cash is great. He helped us with a new pump and some other modifications to our pond. What I appreciate most is he takes the time to explain things to you - we bought our house with the pond already installed, and it's been a fair amount of work and confusion. He's helped troubleshoot problems and made great suggestions. Also, there was a minor issue with the pump once it was running, and he immediately came out and resolved it. read more

Cash helped me fix my fountain (pond) in a very professional, caring and quick manner. Do Not Use This Company.....Cash is a complete scam artist. He charged me thousands of $$$ for less than 3 hours of work on a small water feature. I was unable to find anyone else at this time and just went with it assuming this was the going rate... Fast forward 6 months and my water fountain breaks again. Since Cash "fixed" it last time I'd obtained a couple other fountain repair recommendations. The gentleman that fixed it this time found Cash's handiwork. of 6 months ago, Cash secured my water pipes with electrical tape and a rope! Mind you, at the cost of thousands!! He also put a cheap IRRIGATION pump in my water feature. Please see attached picture. Cash is quite personable but beware, he is as shady as shady can be! Regarding the OWNERS reply: COMPLETE FABRICATION! You didn't rebuild anything! You moved a few rocks around to view the water feature pump, that's it, nothing more. Using electrical tape to secure a water pump is not code, thus the name electrical tape. Do you also typically use a rope to secure a pipe? It was absolutely THOUSANDS of dollars, your dishonesty and lack of integrity shines again, Cash. read more

Cash French is a waterfall rockstar. He created a glorious waterfall right outside my San Francisco living room window that brings me joy and peace every day. I had actually hired someone else first, who built a leaky, not beautiful structure. Cash to the rescue! He scoped it, chose the perfect rocks, and re-built it all using underlayment, padding and pond liner so it wouldn't leak. He tweaked the water fall so it curves down over different levels into a calming stream. He also added moss, several water plants and the gnome characters and decorations we bought to bring it all alive. He did it all in 3 days, I couldn't believe it. Call him for any water feature project, he is so knowledgeable, professional and efficient! Cash, thank you so much! read more

We asked this group to help service our broken pond. In July. After many failed attempts to schedule a time, and committed appointments that ended up as no shows, we finally got a service call in December. A new pump in a box materialized the next day. No actual work was performed. Two weeks later, the pond remains broken and the new equipment is soaking in the rain in its cardboard box. To top it off, the company demanded and we paid $1,000 as a deposit to investigate the problem, five months ago. We are about to go after this money in small claims court. This is absurd incompetence/fraud. read more

Cash was Amazing to work with and we got the massive waterfall my wife always wanted! As part of a full front and back yard renovation (our Covid project), we already had the tanks, pump system and hillside installed and prepared and feature boulders and rock purchased. But we were stuck on the installation, and the art and years of experience and how to put it all together, tomake it look and work great. With a short time frame, Cash was responsive, patient and creative to find a way to meet our needs. With 3 in our family, plus a helper crew of 3, plus Cash--we were able to install all the essential parts of the 7-fall waterfall in one (long) day, and start it running. Then Cash taught us how to trim out the edges and tune up the planting, etc. on our own (but stopped by when we had some questions). He was very encouraging to work with, praised the efforts and preparations we had made, and worked with and enhanced our vision to make it practical and "magical". We love it! read more

Fixed a leak in my pond lickety split, and it's still working great. Scott was on time, good natured and did a great job. He also added some moss to hide the foam spray he used on the leak, which looked great and camouflaged right in with the rest of the greenery. read more

Experienced terrible customer service. The initial contact went reasonably well. After I submitted the description of what I wanted i received no return calls for five months in spite of me calling and leaving messages once a month. I specifically asked that they let me know if they were not interested in my job for any reason. I wanted a substantial waterfall feature to help mask freeway noise so the size of the project should not have been the issue. In my penultimate phone call to inform them I was no longer interested, the owner, Cash, answered his phone for the first time. We set an appointment to meet a couple weeks later. Due to a misunderstanding they cancelled the appointment and said they would reschedule in a week. Now a month later I still have heard nothing from them. Consequently, I left a message stating I was no longer interested in working with them. It appears that if you want to feel disrespected, this is the company to call. read more

I was originally, legitimately unhappy with the installation of my pond and with the lack of communication. However, Cash did eventually call me and after some long and detailed conversations about why I was upset with him and the pond, he asked if I would allow him the opportunity to fix what went wrong because it was important to him that I was happy in the end and that I had the pond I wanted. I agreed, and two weeks later he sent his team to fix every issue I had. It certainly would have been a better journey without all the issues, but stuff happens, even to the best of us. The important thing though, is that if you do mess up, you take responsibility for it and try to fix it and Cash did that. I am now very happy with the pond. It's what I've wanted and saved for, for a long long time. Thanks Cash, for your integrity, even more so than your talent. read more

Our pond started out as a DIY project with our sons. We soon realized we were way over our heads. We had a 4 foot hole with no clue what to do next despite watching many hours of YouTube. After doing our research, we called Cash at Bay Area Waterscapes. We loved his vision and hired him. Cash let our son "help" create the pond. Our giant hole was made into an amazing pond that looks like a natural part of the landscape. Our 10 year old loves it! We hired Bay Area Waterscapes last spring to address leakage issues from an existing 4 foot waterfall. While the estimate seemed pretty steep, it included rebuilding the whole waterfall with new rocks and making it look much nicer.. Fast forward a few weeks (and delays) and we get told that they will reuse our rocks and rebuild the waterfall. There was no reduction in price despite that Cash did not need to purchase any rock material for the rebuild. During the construction Cash was dismissive of our concerns about the use of mulch as "infill" for the 4-5 feet high by ~2 feet deep behind the waterfall and about the lack of any cement or anchoring of any kind for the ~4' high 8' wide waterfall. Cash claimed that it was not best practice to cement anything and that we should simply "shim" rocks for stability. After the waterfall got built is when things really started going awry: first, Cash had decided to put a large rock obstructing the flow out of our main pond, thereby raising the water level and reducing the flow of water, and making water spill over from the sides of the pond (at a rate of more than 1 gal per minute). After several calls, we told Cash he didn't need to come over since I figured out what was going on and fixed it myself (discovered and removed the large rock that was obstructing the flow of water out of the pond). After that, things settled for a little while until about a month ago when one of the waterfalls stopped working. Since none of the waterfall boxes (spillways) were supported in the back, resting only on some bags of mulch and loose mulch which served as "infill", they started shifting, compressing the soft elbow joint that connected them to the pump and now dumping all the water behind the rocks rather than in front, dumping about half the water from the waterfall into the dirt behind the waterfall rocks. I tried to reach out to Cash several times to no avail and am now having another company fix the issues which we thought we had hired Bay Area Waterscapes to fix in the first place, making sure the rocks and boxes are properly anchored and readjusting the boxes in the process to reduce splashing. An unopened bag of mulch is not proper infill, and for $20K one would expect the waterfall spillways to have some amount of support. His manner is unprofessional and workmanship shoddy. I would never do business with Cash or Bay Area Waterscapes ever again and recommend everyone to stay as far away as possible. read more

We have a waterfall feature in the backyard. It worked when we moved in but for an unknown reason it simply stopped one day. I just got off the phone with Cash and explained the issue. He suggested send him some images before we went too far with things. Once he had the images, he said he could come out and look things over and also sent along an approximate price list of possible issues/fixes. We really didn't much money set aside for such a fix so I told him just that. Here's were Cash went above and beyond to make us feel that he just wasn't pushing us aside to get to the next customer. We taked for about 15 minutes, he explained in detail what and where I should look for possible isues on my own and possible fixes. I will update this post once I give all this a whirl. For my birthday my mom gifted me a water feature two years ago. I hired Cash French to install it and have been delighted by the beauty that my small waterfall brings me daily. Visitors always remark on how our backyard feels like a sanctuary and I credit this to the tranquility that comes from the trickling of water and the flitting birds bathing in the small pond. While I could not have afforded this installation on my own budget, I feel very blessed by my mom's gift; it is truly the gift that keeps on giving...every time I look out from my kitchen window, I feel gratitude for Mother Earth and my mom. Cash and his team (Lawrence & Scott) recommend regular maintenance. I attempted to postpone this expense by planning on a deep clean every other year, but I learned the hard way when my pump failed this fall. Scott came out, got it unclogged and running again, then taught me how to trouble shoot and maintain it. I was pleased that he was willing to coach me and I feel confident that going forward I can do this task myself. During the maintenance visit, I reported that my light sensor box seemed to be faulty and tended to be coming on during the day when it was supposed to be on a dawn to dusk setting. Scott was unable to fix it, but Bay Area Waterscapes sent me a replacement for free. If you're the DIY type, I highly recommend seeking Cash or Scott's coaching about maintenance following your installation. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the entire team is super friendly and easy to work with. I am surprised by the negative reviews regarding communication difficulties because I've always received prompt replies to my calls and emails. In short, I think Bay Area Waterscapes delivers what it promises...beauty and tranquility. read more

This water feature was the first phase of some major work to our property and it has now set the tone for the standard that the next contractors will need to shoot for. _____ Unwise and unskillful business practices I wish I did not have to write this critical review of the work done by Cash French, owner of French's Waterscapes. He seems to be a decent person, but he demonstrated unskillful and unwise business practices. Cash charged me $1,600.00 for the job. At that price I expected high quality work and customer service. Let me explain what happened, how I went from quite pleased to unhappy with the work. A few months ago my rubber lined Koi pond (about 5' x 15') started losing water daily at an unusually high rate. I noticed two places where bamboo roots had pierced the liner. The pond has raised wooden troughs of bamboo on two sided. I guess the bamboo must be running rather than clumping bamboo. The pond and bamboo were in place when I bought the house in 2003. I looked on yelp to find someone to correct the problem. French's Waterscapes had a good write up. I called them, the voicemail said that the owner Cash French would be out of town for a while and recommended Steve Capper of Wild Rose Gardens and Ponds for any work that need to be done immediately. I contacted Steve Capper. He did a skillful and efficient job of removing the bamboo roots that had escaped from the trough (they ran a few inches underground so they could not be seen, he dug them up and removed them). He also patched the holes in the rubber liner of the pond. Steve explained that when Cash French, the owner of French's Waterscapes will return from traveling in October and that he would take care of installing a barrier to limit further intrusion of bamboo roots into the pond at that time. Cash French came in October to put the barrier in. It was a two day job. After day one, Cash asked for 1/2 payment. This was not in our original agreement, which I pointed out. Cash said that he wanted it because three clients had no paid him. As customer, this is information I need not to know. I started wondering why three clients had not paid him. I asked him to send me the bill when the job was finished. He said he was having trouble generating invoices. I thought that odd since he claimed to have been in business for twenty years. On the second and final day of work, I noticed that Cash had installed the barrier on only part of the bamboo trough. Cash said that his original estimate was only for 10 feet on each of the two troughs and he would have to charge extra. I said that my understanding of our agreement was that he was going to take care of protecting the pond from intrusion of the bamboo roots from the trough. It was obvious to me that the barrier needed to go all around the troughs. He agreed to add the extra barrier for the original estimate without adding any extra charges. Cash finished on Friday. I decided against my better judgment to pay him in full at the end of the second and final day of the job. He promised to respond to any problems within a week. At this point I decided that no yelp review was better than a negative review. I wanted to cut Cash some slack. On the Monday after that Friday, I did some normal pond maintenance. I noticed that he had cemented the flagstone covering the spill basin so that it was resting on the plastic stem of a valve that was part of the water circulation system for the pond. Luckily, I was able to move the flagstone so it no longer was pressing on the on the plastic valve stem. But, the flagstone piece is not stable and I have to stand on it to do pond maintenance. I wrote to Cash over a week ago about this issue. I've heard nothing back so far. At this point I decided to post the negative review. read more
