The reviews are spot on. We reached out to Elliot a year ago and then again more recently to take a look at redoing our very forested and wild (but beautiful) sloped backyard. Although it was ultimately decided that this project wouldn't be the best fit for Elliot and his team, I just had to add my recommendation and really wish/hope we'll be able to do something together in the future! Highlights: - Great listener and communicator; even took the time to send an email to let me know that he would respond in more detail after he wrapped up some busy projects that week - Sent over a quick schematic to help explain a design idea on the same evening that he stopped by to consult / give an estimate on the project - Read through my laboriously long follow-up email (where I outlined way more specifics on what we were thinking for our space) and steered me towards a different design service, as well as weighed in on feasibility of some of the ideas - Continued the above email thread to help advise and offer guidance in whatever we implement from a cost-effectiveness standpoint, knowing that we have some serious budget constraints. Even though we ended up not moving forward, the fact that Elliot was still willing to share his thoughts and expertise speaks volumes -- and while I did pay for the initial site visit, I did not expect him to continue his "consultation" beyond the time he spent in-person, so I really really appreciate his generosity here -- I really think he does it just because he's a nice person (and maybe has a soft spot since I'm also an arch school dropout). My experience from beginning to end working with the guys over there was just great. Elliot was extremely professional and super easy to talk to not to mention his vision and understanding of landscaping and agricultural design utterly floored me. I was absolutely blown away by what we (mostly him) designed for my entry way and backyard. First off let me say that I usually do not write reviews for a number of reasons. That said the work that Wildwood Landscapes did in transforming our front and back yard has compelled me to write about the amazing work that Elliot, Daniel and the team did. To begin with the cost for the design, including 3D rendering of the work to be done, in comparison to landscape architects was very reasonable. The cost included one free major change which we did changing most of the back landscaping. Elliot was incredibly patient with us in figuring out all of the small design aspects of the project. This included many texts after hours to help calm my anxiety about the job. I think that Elliot is part Landscape Designer and part Therapist :). The whole team was patient with us in answering all of my questions as I was home (retired) during the work. This was very important to me as it was a big job for us and I had a lot of questions. The plant design that Daniel created along with the boulders is incredibly peaceful and not too busy. Elliot's sense of design as to the overall flow of the landscape was was amazing. We trusted him to help us figure out how to put our ideas into reality and he and Daniel came through. My wife and I sit in our back yard now and we are surrounded by the beauty and calm we desired. This guy just blows my mind. Elliot has proven consistently to be a creative and imaginative problem solver. He created an amazing rustic wooden fence for us using an existing metal framework, and reimagined the whole look of the property. Not only was he a pleasure to have around, but trustworthy and punctual. We reached out to Elliot about removing a massive amount of ivy in our front yard here in Kensington and replacing it with something more easy to maintain and cleaner looking. We landed on some grasses and succulent like bushes. We we're thrilled with the results of his work and the whole process was very smooth. Daniel actually popped by our house about a week ago to document progress. I was sitting inside, working from home and spotted him outside. When I realized it was him, I nearly squealed! LOL, that's how much I like these guys! They're totally professional and at the same time very friendly and fun to have around. So... a little background, we had a dirt yard. Pretty much a blank slate, complete with a funky failed fence and retaining wall. My husband and I are both designers and i'm a huge plant nerd, so we had a lot of opinions about what we wanted. They listened and presented us with a plan that, honestly, I would never have come up with in a hundred years on my own and they nailed it! As much as I love plants, I was a deer in headlights over it and it was killing me. I knew what plants I loved, but I was so unsure about the correct hierarchy and placement. We wanted to redesign our front yard for a long time and we are so happy to finally have it as we wanted. We were so happy to find Elliot and Daniel as they were great to work with. We had some general idea on how we wanted our front yard to look like but it is not at all easy to actually make it concrete AND maintain it. They came up with great ideas and always managed to make it fit to our taste :-) One of our concerns was maintenance of the garden as my husband and I are not good at gardening (watering) so they put an automatic irrigation system for us. I hired Wildwood Landscapes to redesign a boring front yard at my home in San Rafael. Our boring green square lawn was transformed into an asymmetrical smaller lawn area along with grasses, interesting plants and boulders! Elliot hand built a beautiful stone planter box in front of our deck filled w interesting and colorful evergreens. We had a bare 6" strip of dirt between my neighbors home and ours. Now we have tall bush like grasses along with smaller bushes in an interesting pattern. No trimming ever needed! Most of the yard is now low water and maintenance free! After we built a music studio in our backyard, the yard was a mess. Wildwood turned it into a place so delightful that I now feel like I'm sitting in a private little museum garden. :-) Elliot and Daniel were very easy to communicate with and responded to our needs, desires, and budget. They were sensitive to creating a landscape that worked well with our new studio and the mosaic artwork on its wall, as well as with our existing house. The curved concrete walls they built look sleek and smooth and are the perfect height for sitting. The plant palette works well and the lighting they put in is magical. They completed construction of the yard in early August, when the weather was good, and we ate dinner outside more in the first month than we had in five years in our old yard. It's just a lovely place to spend time. Wildwood was great to deal with -- I've already recommended them to neighbors on our street. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed working with Elliot and his team. We contracted Wildwood for a large, and complex redo of the front of our house. It included a new front deck, front stairs and retaining wall, and new landscaping in the front and both side yards. During design and planning they worked closely with us to make sure the design elements that were most important to us were included. As we had to evolve plans during the project Elliot continued to make sure our desires were well represented in the work even when we had to adjust. He never pushed his agenda, but also made great recommendations to ensure that the project was cohesive. As the work got started we were impressed with his team's care and respect for our property, their attention to detail and craftsmanship. Elliot is very thorough from the start; he was the only landscaping contractor out of all the ones I interviewed who took the time to ask a lot of questions, ask for inspiration pictures from me, and take his own photos of the property - he was at my house nearly an hour the first time we met! He and his team completely transformed both my front and backyard - getting rid of what was there, transporting it away, and re-doing everything to fit with my vision of what would go with the house. In my case, I think it helped that I had an idea of what I wanted, and Elliot was able to expand on that with his expertise regarding plants, placements, general flow, and the suggestions were great (I was counting on his expertise to do just that). He offered up rough designs that gave me an idea of what the finished landscape would look like - and guided me through really detailed plant choices, giving me lots of options, explaining pros and cons, and sending photos. He's flexible about replanting and revising plans along the way if you need to, and I am so thrilled with the look of my house with the finished yards, and get compliments on it all the time. He is extremely responsive over both email and text, and I never had trouble getting in touch with him.
