I have never hired a process server before, but needed one to serve small claims court papers. I went with Rui because of all the great Yelp reviews, and I am SO happy I did! He did an amazing job! He met with us right away, explained everything he would do, and kept us updated at all times. He is easy to talk to, very professional, and excellent at his job. My case was not easy. The person to be served had a mobile dog grooming business with terrible customer service - doesn't return most phone calls, and you never knew when she would be in the area. Rui pretended to be a dog owner, was able to set up an appointment with her, then waited over 2 hours in his car for her to show up but she never did. Other servers might quit after this, but not Rui. He got even more determined to get her. He tried again by pretending to be a different person that wanted to buy a dog from her, set up another meeting, and this time he got her! When he went to file the paperwork at the courthouse, they said he couldn't because the clerks were on strike. Instead of leaving the paperwork or mailing it in, he held on to it & filed it the day the strike ended to make sure it was done quickly & correctly. His service and work ethic are the best! Rui makes you feel like you are the most important case to him, gives you confidence and peace of mind that he will get the job done, then goes out of his way to succeed. So glad to have Rui helping me. Had to serve a lawsuit to a contractor who used an outdated address as his place of business. After one snafu that Rui rectified, he personally took a witness with him and got my papers delivered with good documentation so there would be no problems. Doing what others couldn't do. I was trying to serve legal court papers to someone. The process server that my attorney was using was unable to serve these papers after a week of trying because the person receiving the papers was trying to hide from us -- she had moved to a new address which was a gated property, she didn't work, and she wouldn't answer the door. My only alternative was to hire somebody to sit outside her home and wait for her to come or go, but that would cost me about $70/hour. I found Rui at Bay Area Process Servers on Yelp and he had some impressive reviews so I called. Rui came to my home that same evening to pick up the court papers and he attempted to deliver them that same evening as well. He mentioned that he charged a flat fee and wouldn't give up until the papers were served. His prices were about the same as other companies but other companies had limitations to how long they would attempt to serve the documents. The personal service that Rui provided impressed me and I felt assured that he was as dedicated as he claimed to be. Less than 48 hours later, Rui had served the papers! He ended up having to spend hours outside of the person's home waiting for her to come or go in order to serve the court documents. And this was all covered by the same flat fee that other companies would have charged me for only the simplest cases. Called for 2 days and left multiple messages - no response

Committed to his craft and does a good job while you're on his good side - but he's an enigma and can turn on you quickly. In my case, he went above and beyond and tried to serve the defendants multiple times as they were very elusive (which I appreciated very much) - and we promised to "take care of him" once the job was done, as he actually requested (never did he ask for more money upfront). To his displeasure, the job took a bit longer than we both anticipated and I asked "too many questions" (this was my first time ever serving anyone). Eventually, he claimed he wasn't getting paid enough even when I offered to pay more on the spot (contrary to our original agreement). Does his job well, but isn't the ideal person to work with. Unfortunately it didn't work out for us with him and we could not move forward with the case due to the time-sensitive nature of our situation. read more
