He charged me 600 bucks for about six hours of work which it really came out to about eight hours for my tattoo and took about 30 minutes to do draw the stencil out tattoo came out perfectly The shop usually charges about 100 an hour for me. But the tattoo shop most definitely fits the bill. I'm SO grateful to have found Bay Area Inkspot, they have been a haven for me on the great journey my tattoo life has become. Every experience is very personal, and for me I chose the artist, and followed him to his shop. I really liked Gabriel Keeling's work in IG, and in chatting with him about ideas, I realized quickly that he would be a great fit for me - super respectful and patient with the process of designing what would become my first tattoo, answering all my questions, and most importantly reassuring me that he wanted me to be happy, encouraging me to speak up at every turn so that what wound up permanently on my skin I would be happy with. I will forever be grateful for that. First timers especially, I highly encourage confirming that you have a great dialogue with your artist! Gabriel has been wonderful throughout the process of my two current tattoos, and soon we'll be inking out my third! The shop is modest and located in a shopping center near 242. It's not the prettiest from the outside, but it's a great environment within - cool and comfortable, great chairs, music playing, mirrors mounted high so you can watch the process from all angles. All the artists have a rapport too, it's fun to hear them all chat with each other about work, and client stories. This shop will always have a place in my heart, and I have incredible sense memories of the hours I've spent here. It might be easy for some to treat the tattoo shop experience as no big deal. My mom and I went to get matching tattoos on 12/5 with Chris and had a very pleasant experience with him as well as the entire shop. Everyone was very helpful and friendly from the moment we walked in and filling out our information on their system upon arrival. I felt a warm welcoming vibe with all the artists amongst one another and their clients. Chris was great, he has a lot of experience and was able to go above and beyond our expectations for the tattoos and put his own spin on them, which we welcomed and LOVED. I very rarely leave reviews, but my mind is still swimming after my first (of many) visits to Bay Area Inkspot. I heard about Ron's work from close family and finally had the chance to book with him, and there aren't enough words in the English language to describe just how much I love my new tattoo. I booked with him through instagram DMs and he was timely and professional. I didn't get to see a mock-up of my tattoo request until my appointment, but boy, it really blew me out of the water. He sketched the whole thing on the spot, and boy, I couldn't be happier. I had previously been told for my last tattoo that it was impossible to capture any finer details and that I would have to get it large (and it is LARGE) in order for it to look great, but Ron managed to fit everything and more into the space I wanted filled. As you can see from the picture below, though--Ron's attention to detail is incredible. The tattoos are reasonably priced here, too. My session with Ron (about 2 hours) was only $200 plus my $100 deposit. I was expecting to spend much much more. Johnny and Jorel were also in the shop at the same time, and they were awesome! I got to see some of their work in real-time, and these guys really helped added to the tight-knit atmosphere. I am only giving 1 star because the owner of the store did the right thing by giving me and my friends our money back; but I literally had to get it through the artists head that my tattoo and my two friends tattoos were AWFUL. (He knew it too-just refused to admit it out loud; which I understand). We went in for a small outlined heart tattoo and left with permanent chicken scratch. I cannot believe I am now stuck with a terrible tattoo for the rest of my life. I pray a PROFESSIONAL artist can fix this nightmare. The whole thing was handled very inappropriately as well. I discussed the problem with the owner of the store WHILE HE WAS TATTOOING another customer!!! What in the world?! PLEASE take a look at these pictures and let me know what you think. The quality of the work is POOR and SLOPPY for such a simple piece. This tattoo is a simple design that I think any artist should be able to execute without mistake. Now I am no professional or ink master but I know a terrible tattoo when I see one. We walked in and they seemed interested in helping us until we asked for shop minimum; that's when all effort disappeared. They only spent about 1-2 minutes on each tattoo; amongst myself and two friends. The owner was also yelling at his apprentice for putting the needle into the tattoo gun improperly before my friend received her tattoo. In a nutshell, this was a horrible experience. I do however appreciate the owner doing the right thing refunding our money. What I learned was to follow my gut. I will forever continue to speak up when I feel I am being manipulated or taken advantage of. Just some advice for other young women who may encounter this situation. Also this was my third tattoo so not my first tattoo experience but by far the only worst tattoo I have. Way to screw it up unprofessionals! My friend just got her tattoo fixed at another tattoo shop, I mean look at that difference? The artist asked if she let a friend do the tattoo-NO!! How embarrassing for this business. My sister-in-law and I were scoping out tattoo shops in the area to get some simple, small tattoos done. We read through reviews and looked at photos of a lot of surrounding shops, and finally decided Bay Area Inkspot was the best. We were walk-ins and our experience was great. Bryan did my small dots tattoo and was really informative. I showed him the original design I had in mind, and he let me know that it wouldn't last long because the small open circle design would eventually collapse in on itself after full healing. I really appreciated the transparency and suggestions he shared. While we were there we checked out the portfolios of all the artists. Kyle's really stood out to me because he has done some mandala-style work, which is what I've had in mind for a couple years. I didn't get my lotus tattoo that day. What I did (and I highly recommend doing this no matter who your artist is) was stalk his Instagram for a few weeks to make sure I was really into his work. When I got my first tattoo 8 years ago in Florida I just walked into a shop, picked out something off the wall, and sat down with whoever was available, without asking to see what his previous work was or anything. This time around I wanted to do my homework, especially for a tattoo that means something to me. So I went through basically all of Kyle's Instagram photos, checked out his lines, his designs, everything. I loved all his work, so I hit him up (he conveniently has a 'Text' link on his Instagram) and scheduled a session with him. He asked to see pictures of what I had in mind. I came in for my 4pm appointment later that week, sat with him for ~45 minutes as he drew up the design and asked my thoughts, then the tattooing part took about 4 hours. I really appreciate the fact that he's meticulous, hence why all his work is so good. He'd ask if I needed breaks to stand up and stretch, which was very considerate. It was also nice that he's super chill and easy to talk to. Be kinda weird if you're spending 5 hours with someone who was stand-offish and awkwardly quiet. I'm so in love with the finished piece! It's even better than what I had been envisioning over the last 2.5 years. Kyle is really talented, and I have a feeling he's gonna blow up in the Bay Area so I consider myself lucky to have been able to score an appointment. I told Kyle that my husband and I are planning baby #2 soon, but if plans change then I'm definitely coming back to him for my next tattoo in the coming months. I came here for my very first tattoo and had an excellent experience. The shop is clean and the people working there are all friendly. I had chosen Jorel based on the pieces he did for my boyfriend. I'd emailed Jorel the week prior with a few pictures that showed what I wanted and when I arrived for my appointment Jorel already had worked up an amazing sketch with what we'd discussed. The sketch alone showed his incredible artistic talent and he really understood the significance of this tattoo and was confident he would do an incredible job. The tattoo is a memorial tattoo for my Dad. The process itself was smooth and Jorel was great at keeping up conversation during and making the time go by faster. He kept me relaxed and was understanding when I needed a stretch break. I sat for 5 hours and then I needed to stop. He did most of my tattoo in that time and we already booked my next appointment to finish up the piece. As a result I have a beautiful tattoo and an amazing tribute to my Dad.
