I've gotten two pieces from Anna here, she's the owner and tattooer. I must say the quality of her work is superb! She specializes in American traditional style which is the best style in my opinion. She's highly responsive and very accommodating. The shop itself is pristine, and it has a nice little chill vibe. It's located in downtown Martinez, street parking is free on the weekends. I have several tattoos (I lost count after 20) and Owen has done my last 3. He's such an amazing artist, easy to talk to and makes great suggestions. Owen is talented at much everything, but I think he excels at black and grey and script. I knew I wanted a black and grey bat, kinda cute but not cartoony, wings slightly open. Boom, he knocked it out of the park. Next, I wanted a fancy gentleman lobster, and Owen came out with the most hilariously awesome lobster ever. Then, for their Halloween flash event, I chose the hand design. I haven't been tattooed by Anna, but her work is incredible (she specializes in American Traditional) she's super nice, always chit chats with me and lets me pet her super cute dog when she's there. Anna at Downtown Tattoo is absolutely incredible! She's done the art for almost my entire left arm, and I love each and every piece she's added for me. Super talented artist, and gorgeous color work in traditional tattoo style. The shop is such a great location too, right off main st. Easy to book an appointment, and smooth process. The shop always has fun flash events going on, and I appreciate how they participate in the Martinez community too... having candy goody bags around Halloween, organizing toy drive donations around the holidays, etc. Anna is a local, and it's been very cool to see the shop grow and thrive. This shop though it may be a small packs a huge punch with great artists cool vibes and up-to-date with all cleanliness and other important things like that. My artist was Ethan Hernandez Super cool and easy to work with gave me a good sized a tattoo that I absolutely love Give any of these artist a chance they all definitely know what they're doing very competent very aware of what's going on in the shop. What can we say about TeeJay! Amazing man! Met him years ago for my cover up and did an amazing job! I allowed him to come up with an art piece that would cover up my old tribal and he did it! Of course after some minor tweaks. My wife wanted her violet revived, which was done 11 years ago by another tattoo'er. To we got to visit the new shop in martinez! This fine work was not TeeJays cup of tea, but he did have the right man (Mike) working for him. He looked at the violet, and he went to work. An hour later it looked better than the original and he added some wording that my wife wanted! Looks great! We are both happy with it! Soon to be 58 and a warrior who has lived through hell and back with health issues I have overcome, I finally got the tattoo I wanted all my life - a Steal Your Face Grateful Dead tattoo. This was my first tattoo and I was really nervous but Anna Crisolo came well recommended and I knew I was in safe hands. I had seen her work on a friend of mine and that did it... I knew I was ready for my first tattoo and I knew who would do it. She was amazing and really took her time with, constantly checking if I was ok - I was, I was talking my head off. LOL. Wanted to be a customer and get work done I have reached out to the owner and also the son of the owner multiple times and messages are just read and never responded back. Very frustrating and shows lack of respect and leadership if the owner is ignoring future clients messages so will the rest of the artist of the shop . At least message people back so I know to look else where, it takes two seconds to say not interested seems leaving future customers on read is the trend here. read more

I was kind of disappointed, my artist was a little rude upon arrival and I'm pretty sure they took whatever was going on in their day out on my tattoo- super thick and deep ink, got it done over a half year ago and it's still raised, unlike the rest of my tattoos. On top of that the other two artists were being completely inappropriate and insensitive about certain things in conversation. There are better tattoo shops in Contra Costa county than this one. Only positive is that the words in my tattoo were spelled right, I guess you win some you lose some? read more

I stumbled into this place during the Martinez Brew Crawl and spoke to a few artists and wanted to point out a few things. Friendly artists all have great attitudes. Place is super clean and comfortable. Great location in Downtown Martinez. They're open late. Plenty of nearby restaurants and shops to check out before and after. I have over 20 hours of experience sitting on a tattoo chair but haven't gotten any work done here yet. The list above are what I look for in shops and artists. I have to feel good and comfortable before getting on the chair. My earlier hours on the chair allows me to know a thing or 2. Bottomline, kewl place, kewl artists, located in a kewl little town. A friend of mine and I a couple weeks ago went in just to scope the place out, and as soon as we walked in, a white guy w glasses and a girl with dark hair gave off the worst vibes of any place I've ever walked into. I recently got new ink from Future Primitive. Mike was my artist. I came in with a concept and a story that I wanted my tattoo to tell. Mike took what I shared with him and put together a custom piece and inked it into my forearm. It's the best thing I've ever put on my body. To top it off, the experience was so incredibly professional. Mike was cooley dressed; not looking drab or defunked with his attire. The atmosphere of the parlor was nostalgic and warm with cool display case...the vibe was incredibly inviting. Came in tonight because we heard that they were doing $50 tattoos and all proceeds were going to be donated for breast cancer research. Not only did they take people wayyyyy past their 10pm cut off, they were extremely pleasant about it. I can't believe how grateful and happy the artists were that people stayed until past 1am to get some ink in support of finding a cure. TJ is the owner and did my tattoo.
