By far the most overpriced card shop (for Pokemon at least) I have seen yet in the valley. Every time I go, their selection is exponentially higher priced than their competitors. Went today to try and give it an another shot since my buddy told me they have revamped it a bit, thought I would see what it's all about. Found a card I was a fan of for $18 and said "damaged". I checked it out, card was in great shape so I decided to purchase it. When looking around a bit more, the guy there came up to me and told me that the card was listed significantly underpriced and told me market was around $45 for the card. I told him since they marked it as $18, I was going to pay $18 for it and feel like they should charge that because that's what their price was, he stated that it's "up to me" what I will pay and I followed it up with since it's marked $18, I'm going to pay $18. He asked me if thats the absolute lowest I would pay, and I obviously said yes since that's what is on the sticker they put on the card. He told me he couldn't sell it for that price, and I decided not to buy the card and left - thus living into the same reason I decided to give up on this place and how they are still significantly higher priced that all the other shops in the valley. Don't waste your time or money here, literally eBay is the better option. Make the trip to Grail Collectibles or The Trading Card Place, worth the trip for sure. Even go next door to Monster, way better place to spend your money. read more

Went to get some singles with my boys. Flipped through the Pokemon cards and found a bunch that we wanted. They all have prices on them. Some are $3 or $2 and go higher. So I went through the ones I wanted to buy and checked the current prices on the market. All of the cards were $1-$5 higher than what they were worth. So I went to go buy them and gave the guy checking me out what I wanted to pay. I shared with him what the current prices were. He said that didn't matter. Their policy was $3 minimum per card!?!? Uhhhh what?? Why would anyone pay $5 for a $1 card? Makes no sense. Policy, I think your policy is to fleece the customers for every penny. It's not enough that your ETB's are overpriced but now you want to overprice your singles. That takes balls to look a customer in the face and say "I want all your money, and I'm willing to nickel and dime you for it all". As you may already know my family and I will not go back there and will tell everyone we know not to go back there and make sure they tell their friends. This shop used to be a good gaming shop. The owner decided to try to compete with the sports shop down the road and has become a complete psycho. They dont know anything about sports and now they dont service the gaming people either. I used to love coming here with my buddy and now we go to the warhammer spot in chandler and when we need something else we go to the shop next door. Sealed Pokemon product was ridiculously overpriced. Highest I have ever seen across the entire valley. And to make it worse, the staff was very unfriendly and didn't help at all. I feel like these reviews don't reflect Baxter's Games at all, so I wanted to give an honest review of my expereince shopping here over the past year. I want to break it down into a few sections so if you're looking for a specific thing just feel free to scroll down. Store overview: When walking into Baxter's games you are immediately greeted with the atmosphere that resembles the definition of old school gaming. There's a clean relatively large play space surrounded by cases of singles for every game, used and retro video-games, and a case of miniatures. This isn't really mutually exclusive to this store in particular but in contrast to the clean cooperate atmosphere that is Gamers Guild this store has a completely different feeling. Heading left you're met with hundreds of board games, dice, 40k, cases of comics, DnD, and paint. Basically if there's a game related product your looking for it's here. If you continue to head towards the back of the room on your left is another door that leads to a huge Warhammer play space that's tidy and clean to use, honestly the amount of terrain they have to use for free is insane, no rentals required, no reservations besides for events. Products: The product selection has to be one of the best in Arizona, with Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh sets from every era of the game, I was surprised I could even buy Avacyn Restored packs which released ten years ago, or products like the unglued boxes. The 40k and AOS selection is also immaculate and is honestly better than the GW store itself, I can't count the amount of times I've been to the GW location about 20 minutes away, only to be met with a no, we don't have that and then for me to find it at Baxter's. I've even found old out of print models just sitting there too! Another thing, this is the only shop in Arizona that I know of that even takes/sells used Warhammer models. For what would be a hundred dollars on GW's official site you can buy for sixty or even forty dollars depending on the unit. The rate on selling isn't insane because they sell for cheap as well, and the thing is I'd rather take the store credit and build something new instead of taking months to sell my army! Last but not least they're always innovating I came in recently and there's now a pinball machine, a wall of nerf guns, and hundreds of toys and hot wheels which basically covers all my Christmas shopping needs! Events: The event variety is great, 40k leagues, tournaments, Pokémon teach and play for my kids while I game with my friends, and locals for a bunch of TCG games, most nights it seems to be packed so there's always something to do. Employee's: All the employee's are incredibly nice, and helpful, Marco has helped me upgrade my commander deck and is super good with my kids at the teach and play night. The owner rocky is knowledgeable too and has been in the businesses for almost a decade and it shows, anything I have a question on he's able to answer insanely quickly. Overall: I understand some of the complaints about prices but the thing is, at the end of the day it's a small business and it needs to be able to compete with huge moguls like amazon. It in tandem gives back to the community by having awesome events, a huge double play space for TCG and 40k, and used items for resale and intake. Baxter's will always be my go to, 10/10. read more

I have come into Baxter's a few times. Each time I have been the staff working always has had poor customer service when I've inquired about buying MTG singles. Additionally, I have come in multiple times to trade in cards for store credit. The store credit value on trade in cards is just laughable. I don't know what aggregate they use to come to their price conclusions but it's pretty easy for a consumer like me to find out my cards value, and that is factoring in a stores trade in %. I have also come in twice now, gone through their singles boxes and pulled cards and asked for the front to hold them for me to come back and buy them (usually a few days before payday). Both times I have come back and they said "sorry, your cards aren't here". The last thing is, their card prices on MTG singles is crazy too. They charge anywhere from 7-10% more on MTG singles. I just can't do business with them if they are penny pinching on everything and they don't take the time to earn business. Won't be coming back. Go to Gamers Guild or Athoria. read more

Asked about trading in cards, asked what they use to value the cards. They said TCGplayer, then I asked how do they price when they sell them they say card kingdom, meaning the prices on card kingdom are always higher and they give you a lower below even on tcgplayer prices. So you are doubling the fact they give less and sell at even an average higher price. Plus, their sealed product is crazy overpriced. Their fallout collectors boosters are sold at $50 each and there only 12 packs in a box do the math that's $600 for the box, where you can buy a whole box foe $300 to 350 even on Ebay. I would never recommend this place. Go to Olympus Games in Mesa better selection and the staff are nicer. read more

First off, one of the workers decided to try and hit on my girlfriend while the other helped me with a couple of things. And then questioned more after they said they were with me. Second, the prices are kinda crazy, they said their system automatically adds "30%" to the price for convenience. And as far as trading in, you get absolutely stiffed on your cards value. The positive, a big selection of war gaming and tcg selection. I have been here a couple times and it's disappointing. The paint selection is in a darkly lit corner of the building. I had to use my phone light to see the colors... The used warhammer miniatures is ridiculously priced. Why would I pay $45 for a used squad, that is terribly painted, and missing bits, when I could buy a new squad for $50? The pricing is not reflective of it being used. I've bought used miniatures here and it's a joke, stripping, and repainting a prebuilt miniature is the worst. Just buy new. read more

Baxter's is a nice and clean store. I would like to give 5 stars but for being a game store there is not a lot of board games. However, if you are into role playing games or miniatures or card games (Magic, Pokeman) this is a great place to comeZ n plenty of space to stretch out and join in games that are being played. Also, they were teaching a young kid how to play Pokeman. Not a lot of places would take that time so this is impressive. Prices are average and right on par with MSRP and Amazon. The staff seemed friendly even though I was greeted by a guy sitting down going thru his cards. Not holding that against them in this post, it is a game store. :) read more

Baxter's is a great store, and I go to it every Tuesday night, and play a game of Magic and get a new comic book. Sometimes I even get a new game for my xbox. The service there is amazing and very helpful, especially when finding Magic cards. They have really good prices and they don't ramp them up that often. The only thing I would say about it is that they do have a small selection of comics and games, and it would be great if they brought in games like mortal kombat xl, or riders republic to the xbox one section. read more

The young Asian male worker rushes you with every question you have and seems extremely bothered that you're there and that he can't go sit and talk with his friends at the table. I have been this game shop a total of 4 times and I honestly can say I do not recommend this shop. The first time was in March 2022, and I came in to buy a Dawn of Majesty booster box but saw the price was something like $80 vs $65 at Amazing Discoveries at the time and was deterred from that and bought a Ghost From the Past display box that was $70 which im pretty sure was little overpriced even for the time but i excused it and went on my day. The second time was like the next day and I brought in a starlight Red Eyes Dark Dragoon that i pulled from a pack + like 20-30 holos ranging from Battles of Chaos and Dawn of Majesty that I only wanted Store credit on, not cash but store credit. At the time, the Red Eyes Dragoon was something like $550 by itself, plus the other holos ranged from $5-$50 per card. Something interesting happened while the guy was helping me determine the value of my cards i was trading in. Another gentleman that was working behind the counter at the time came over after the price was concluded (I hadnt seen the price on the note pad) but new it was well pretty decent based on the other guys face cause he looks at the guy helping me originally and asked POINT BLANK at the counter "has he seen the number?" And point at me... and then the guy says no to him. He proceeds to move the pad and say to my face "$500" for it all.... Not cash. Store credit... I begrudgingly said sure (dumb I know but I genuinely pulled it from a $5 pack so idgaf really) but i know the guy literally just gave me probably like 1/2 the original number after he saw how much real money it was at first. And its not like you can really haggle a price with them so whatever stupid number they spit out at you is what youre gonna get. I dont know but my disdain for this place began here. And only grew... My third time was like in April 2022 and i was buying sleeves, nothing bad to report here. Service was good and sleeves were really nice. My fourth and final time was when i came in around May or June of 2022 i was looking to complete my Ghost From the Past 2 ghost rares and came in around the middle of the day and came in and saw 3-4 people playing a game at a one of the tables and no one behind the counter. Was not acknowledged in any way for about 10 minutes until someone else came in to the store, asked the people playing the game if anyone was working. Someone from the table got up and helped him first and then asked me if I needed help.. I asked if they had any ghost rares from the new set and without checking or even really doing anything to look and see if maybe they did, he just says no and its end of that.. no effort to even check.. And then proceeded to sell me a secret rare (not starlight) Blue Eyes Jet Dragon for $12 when Sun Valley Gaming sold me one in better condition than Baxters for like $6. Never coming back after this but hope them all well! I have like $25 store credit there still and it will sit there til the end of time and never be seen again read more

If I could give "0" stars a would. This place has gone downhill by a lot. This place has become much much about money and They really do not make you feel welcome in there often times, your interrupting what they were doing by looking for cards. There have been several instances in the last few weeks I have gone there. First was to pick up an order that I placed online. When I got there they were bewildered that I was able to place an order online. They said they will have to cancel it because they don't know if they have all the cards in stock or that the prices online are correct. Saying it should have been shut down from placing an order. I asked well do you have the cards? They started looking for them and they had a majority of them, I wanted to buy them and they wanted nearly 50% more for less cards. Issue 1. If you can not properly maintain or control your online store thats NOT consumers fault that's yours and whoever is in charge of it. Issue 2, I wanted to buy a card I have been looking for and it is going for $11 on tcgplayer as mid range. It is a foil that had a deep curve, due to not being sleeved or heat or being foil. I still wanted the card. $15. What? The last straw really was tonight. Anyone who knows mtg knows double masters 22 just came out. Last week the collectors packs were $100. Which is fine I understand that it's $15 over what you can find from let's say Walmart but I get it. Tonight $125? The owner cakes to use tcgplayer to set prices but you can definitely tell they are way over on a lot of these. The second and most telling was there are at least 5 other shops in the 30 min area that are still at $100. Will also show you what they are looking at when they look up prices and not hide it to themselves. The owner was even trying to argue why he takes advantage saying he could provide all he does without over charging. You might not be able to provide as much but I bet you would have much more loyal and better customers who would be willing to spend more though. Take a look for another store in the area or honestly order direct from tcgplayer, you may have to wait but your saving a lot of money in the process. Came here to visit a friend who lives in the area even though I live in Chandler. Definitely worth the trip, I've been here a few times. The owner and staff are very welcoming and attentive to their guests. They definitely aren't the biggest fish in the area, but they have a decent collection of some Commander/EDH staples, and great Standard selection. I've seen reviews of high prices, maybe he listened to them because the prices seemed fair and on par with other stores, even cheaper for some items such as food and drinks. They even have a microwave and mini oven for food purchased. Hungry man meals, steak/chicken burritos, ramen, and good selection of drinks was cool. The environment is nice and laid back, light music in the background, a couple streams up as everyone plays. The other players were friendly and were helpful to my wife who is a new magic player herself. Easily 5 stars from my experiences here. Thank you. read more

The 2yr old review is out of date of this place. It's much better now. I popped in here after going to my spine doctor appointment that has an office A few doors down. It reminded me of old school Waterloo that used to be in downtown Gilbert when I was a kid in the early 90s. Table top gaming, lots of product, but lots of knowledge too. I still have two binders of magic cards that I haven't done anything with in several years. I know I have a few cards that are worth something, and I know I'm out of the loop when it comes to gaming anymore. But I used to be so hard core into Dungeons and dragons, white wolf, vampire, magic.... my son is interested in getting started on transformers. It be pretty cool if he could get into magic. But I just know that all gaming communities can be so cruel. He's special needs and has severe adhd and Tourette's. But he loves getting to know everything there is to know about the game. (He kicks butt st Titan Fall) This is probably the only place I've come across that I think could possibly have the tolerance for teaching him. But I just remember how much money my parents spent every holiday and birthday and for every reward, and all I wanted was to buy cards and more cards. I don't think I'm ready for that. Lol! To start off none of the staff were wearing masks as a health care worker I'm extremely disappointed. Following that they over price EVERYTHING. The owner has no idea what he is talking about especially when it comes to Pokémon cards. I will from now on only take my business to Amazing Discoveries, I am extremely disappointed on how I was treated, I'm fairly certain the owner and employee were talking about me after I left. I was shown a card I wanted and was told it was $40 but when I looked it up it was $2 on eBay and TCG player. They are trying to sell shining Fates booster packs for $20 each. Yet when you go to amazing discoveries you can get a shining fates Pikachu box for $50 which includes 4 packs. If I bought 4 packs at Baxter's it would have been $80. INSANE. NEVER EVER SHOP HERE. I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I recommend ONLY going to Amazing Discoveries, the staff is extremely friendly. They care about there customers. And they are reasonably priced. Great little shop that hosts a bunch of games ie magic, melee, and yugioh. The nearest shop is Desert Sky Games, which is way too far from me to be an option. This is a nice little store. Don't come here expecting a selection of video games. This is not that kind of store. Predominantly tabletop/card store. Their selection is kind of small. They offer deals and places to play games LAN with some friends or something but their prices don't justify it for me as someone who already owns nice hardware myself and can just play at home. It's a nice small game store and i'm really happy to see one in this area and hope that it becomes a staple in the community, but as of now, Desert Sky is still the place to go because of their selection and well established community there read more

Baxter's is a clean, open, and nice venue for table top tournaments and their weekly video game tournaments. I come every week for the Melee tournaments and love how friendly and well run the events are. While I'm not much into table too gaming like I used to be, their selection of cards and toys seems up to date and in great condition and their pay-to-play video game lounge has the new consoles and games ready to enjoy.
